Buyout windows are only available during certain periods in an NHL season..

1st one at the end of June (approx 10 to 12 days in length) just before July 1st UFA season, and the 2nd at the completion of Arbitration hearings late August, early September also only a few days in length..

To qualify for the 2nd buyout window a team must have had at least 2 players file for salary arbitration hearings to resolve their contracts, otherwise its not available to teams. There was a limited number of buyouts permitted per CBA under the old CBA.

Since the salary cap for this shortened season remains at $70 mil (prorated) and both previous buyout windows for the 2012-13 season have closed, buyouts are not available until after this year is completed and begin in June 2013..

thx...
what about putting players on waivers and sending them to the marlies if not claimed
is there any limit there?

John Garrett what a chump"Well of course the best team is Vancouver, who would it be Toronto?"

What a stupid comment, and totally uncalled for

Well glad to see it's over and both sides weren't as dumb as I suspected.

Of course now can start the personal pointless boycott of games for the first month of the season. Would just feel bad to prove them right and be watching the games right out of the gate.

I greet this news with a resounding "Meh."

I know people will come back in droves, at least to the Canadian teams and a few US teams, but this entire lockout was bull, and has soured me significantly on the NHL. There's no material reason the deal struck this morning couldn't have been reached in the summer. It's just massively disrespectful to fans, and it's going to take more than a rushed half-season to make me forget.

Fortunately, pitchers and catchers report in 6 weeks. Bring on baseball!

(And for the record, it took MLB the better part of a decade after the '94 debacle to win me back...).

I'll go with the more respectful, that's understandable.

This whole thing was ridiculous and stupid and I'm sure plenty feel the same way. In a sense you'd almost hope plenty have been soured, so the resulting damage forces both sides to never do something this dumb ever again.

+1 I agree fully .. I mean I'm excited thinking about hockey again, but I still have a sour taste about it all that I'm not happy about nor do I give a **** about the league ... We'll see how it plays out

I'm almost curious to know what the deleted responses had to say, but I understand the Mods having to keep a lid on the more outrageous comments.

I doubt there will be much of an impact to Canadian teams in terms of fan or revenue dropp-off, but the vulnerable US clubs will sureness taking advantage of the increased revenue sharing to stay afloat after this mess.

Well, it is the lock-out thread, and we have enough threads derailed.

What we need are details about the CBA so we can have better discussions.

I believe there is going to be a huge implication from the Cap rules. Minors, trades, retirements, et cetera.

I was on the same flight as Brian Burke back from Ufa. Needless to say, he tore out of the airport asap once lockout news hit our phones.

Question

Will the trade deadline be around the same time this year even with this delay in the regular season?

So honestly, I feel like the NHL payed their price with the loss of revenue and fans and don't hold any more ill will towards them. Just glad to see the deal get done.
