The half the cap on 4 forwards experiment should be over, and that's what they should be talking about right now. They could even use the covid flat-cap as their excuse.
This is exactly the team killer. The 11 million dollar club with disinterested jokers is awe full.......now I’m rambling I’m so frustrated. Lol

17 years, a generation, of Leafs fans have never seen a series win. All the while the Raptors, Jays and FC have done great things. This collapse feels like the final blow to a withering fan base. It's basically dead.

Even if they win the Cup down the line in a few decades, there will be no need to plan a parade. Can just celebrate in a parking lot like Anaheim or NJ given the lack of fans.

These pressers are useless. Nothing is said that we already don’t know.

The same can be said for literally every sports press conference and player interview that has ever been conducted. I don't know why people even watch this stuff.

This organization is f**ked, no accountability from players, coaching staff, GM, President, and apparently ownership. I hope they all get participation trophies because it’s all these losers will ever win.

Kind of glad there are no fans in the stands so that MLSEL does not fill their pockets with more Leafs' fans' hard earned money.

That is one heck of a stretch. There will always be enough Leaf fans to fill 3 arenas.

Yup, flip side is they can’t hear the fans chanting fire Dubas, fire Dubas. Ditto for the Prez.

If you like shiny hockey, watch the regular season. If not, sit out the season and tune in when real hockey starts..
I mean, I like hockey enough to watch non Leafs regular season games, so of course I'll watch.

You just can't use it for any actual info other than who they may face in round 1

I have to admit, I'm a bit perplexed by the Leafs perspective on their roster. I listened to the year end of the players and management. I'm not surprised by the unending optimism as I am fully aware of corporate speak and the machination of such "year end talks", but, I'm still surprised.

It's seems to me Dubas has the approval of ownership/upper management, he appeared more angry at last years loss to CBJ. They are buying high on their regular season success, they shouldn't. They won't be in the North Division exclusively next year.

I think he has to be open minded of at least SOME big contracts being moved. Maybe he is playing coy so as to not project to other GMs, but, he has to ask around and get a feel for market value of some players.

Fans better not get too excited, they are going to try and stay the course, again without the big splash I have hoped would come over the last two years. I credited Dubas for building a good team without such a move, it's not how I would have done it. It worked during the regular season, can it work in the playoffs with so much tied up?

I don't think it'll be that drastic but I 100% agree that the leafs fandom is not as strong in younger generations. I'm 21 so i'm a part of the generation that has never seen any form of success. All I know is 2 weeks of getting my hopes up in the playoffs to lose a game 7. The Leafs in round 2 is a fairy tale to me.

Most of my friends love the Raptors and watch basketball. I can't even blame them, hockey is so expensive and the leafs are a tortured fanbase. What's the point in cheering for them? I was born into this due to my cousins so that's my excuse lol

They sure as heck think so. That is what Shanny responded to Simmonds when asked. In a nutshell he said there is a first for everything. Also said they are going to win a cup eventually.

They were lucky there were no fans bc I am pretty sure the ice would be filled with jersey, popcorn, beer and all sort of crap toward the end of the game with boos starting in the beginning of the 3rd period.

Fred is gone. Pretty much confirmation

Not so fast. I get the feeling Dubas would entertain a cheap back up deal, probably for a year or two based on his year end "corporate talk" that he, Keefe and Shanahan just had. I've personally been involved in many of these, for a suit though, I give Dubas credit for being is at least somewhat transparent.

If Freddie was the teammate he seemed to be, even Jack himself called him a good teammate, than credit to him for being able to get a contract even as a backup if no starting contract comes his way elsewhere. It's better than working the mines and you never know how the ball bounces.

I said the same of Spezza a couple of years ago. He didn't complain when Babcock scratched him (at least not publicly), he was a good teammate and the fan base has gone from wondering why he is here to hoping he can win a Cup here. Just a great guy. Stories like him and Jacks really make a team that could be unlikable, likeable.

Sadly many “Leaf fans” tune out once the Leafs are eliminated so they don’t know what it takes to win a cup. Thankfully now I can watch real hockey played by teams who want to win, enjoy........

Did any players or MGT used the word Pride in their post game or post season presser?

Where is their pride

The thing is, they can’t even sustain their regular season level.
We call players like them chokers. That’s the same thing we said about DD. If you can sustain your regular season level and just couldn’t reach that extra gear, that’s one thing but to go 0 goals in 18 games, that’s a whole new level crap.

It feels like they are perpetuating the idea that the regular season was some smashing success when you could see warning signs everywhere. Like no showing against Ottawa, coughing up a massive lead and losing in OT. Mitch’s turnover on OT on Game 55 in a game where Ottawa out worked them and it was no biggie. The Leafs also dropped 4x games to Vancouver - first time was a power outage after shutting down Vancouver, which led to a 5-6 game losing streak. Then they lost to Vancouver twice as that team was coming fresh off of their Covid ordeal.

Even in a successful season they found unusual ways to be a weird let down at times when you thought they had reached a new level.

Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde. That characteristic has never gone away.
