Yeah I don't know why people expected anything special at these press conferences. They're always going to be blanket statements to make sure they have multiple avenues to explore in the offseason. They can't just come up there and say "Yeah we're dealing one of Mitch or Willy we don't like them anymore", that immediately corners them and the media will pounce on it

Judge them by the offseason moves they make, not the press conferences. I don't know if Dubas has it in him to move a core piece though

I get that, but even if you read between the lines, the message is clear. I would be absolutely shocked if Dubas is even willing to entertain the thought of trading Marner.

That's the problem, I think, management is just happy to make the playoffs and they HOPE that one year the stars align and they win a round. Never mind going on a serious run. What's the point in watching any games next season? Why should I even bother? Regular season means jack anyway when 2 divisions had seeds 3 and 4 move on. I couldn't care less if Marner scores 100 points next season. I couldn't care less if Matthews scores 50 goals. They will probably get beat again when it counts the most.

The Leafs have also drafted a lot of very small, long shot project skilled guys over the past few drafts. Unless we are stocked with some legitimate darkhorse guys with upside like a Sam Girard or a Yanni Gorde in the mix it’s hard to imagine how guys like Topi Niemela or Nick Abruzzse will have viable paths to promotion and be able to reinforce areas of weakness for us. We don’t have more Zach Hyman’s coming up.

110% I agree with this! He's got to show up more in the playoffs, I'm in no way trying to take away from the rough playoffs Marner had.

I just think the discourse on Marner has become "no goals in 18" and that's it. There is more to the story here, he is a point machine, contributes to the defensive side of the game, and the PK. Continuously mentioning his 18 game playoff goalless streak doesn't add anything. It's just a cop-out to me.

He did say he wants to get stronger and faster. I think we've ragged on him enough and he looked defeated.

He said he played well he and his line mates "created plenty of chances" social media people were mean to him.

He does not "GET IT". He was spoiled and pampered his whole life, best teams in minor hockey, plays jr in London, pampered again, his dad cry's to the media during negotiations just a spoiled caudled little dick.

Not 1 iota of responsibility because his whole life he was never made to be accountable.

I get the distinct sense from the comments of the front office today that the core players know full well that their jobs are safe no matter what. I understand the need to provide a support system, but maybe, just maybe, if Shanahan & Dubas came out today and said something along the lines that this was totally unacceptable, and all options are on the table to improve the team moving forward, it might light a fire under a guy like Marner next time around.

Who knows what they said behind doors. I don't think gas lighting these players in front of the media is ever the answer though, at least not in Toronto. Just look at the boards and some of the stuff written online, there is no need to create more fire.

The Leafs is not a hard hitting team, that’s bc they are a goal scoring team. They just didn’t score any goals. If they score like the Avs and Lightning, who cares if they get out hit.

A main reason they did not score is because they were intimidated and stayed on the outside rarely going into the nasty areas and screening Price. Cant you see the correlation between the 2??

Sounds like he thinks it's fully down to luck. Maholtra and possibly Hyman ( who we won't be able to afford) will be the only changes.
