They exist. Like Corey Perry.
If you're relying on a guy from the 4th line to win it for you at a crucial time, it's worrisome.
The guys making big bucks better have it or you're screwed.

They're trying to find some 700k players with killer instinct to take over in the playoffs. Our entitled core will stack up points in the regular season. It's an amazing plan and great structure for a team.
That's something that I cannot explain. But that was 1 out of 63 games.
I think the players have a point that despite how awful the ending was, there are positives about how the team's regular went.
I remember when Bergevin said "the answer is in the room" when Montreal was struggling a little while back and it sounded completely idiotic at the time. Lots of jokes about it.i have to say. this is why i couldn't work in professional sports in any aspect.
i would literally get myself fired today. lol
Yeah I don't know why people expected anything special at these press conferences. They're always going to be blanket statements to make sure they have multiple avenues to explore in the offseason. They can't just come up there and say "Yeah we're dealing one of Mitch or Willy we don't like them anymore", that immediately corners them and the media will pounce on itIt's a possibility, but they've hunted at changes and cap concerns. They're covering their bases and leaving options open. Everyone should have expected this language and these type of statements

yep, Spezza too. The problem is that the luckiest you can get is finding one or two of those players in a given offseason. Most are busts like Thornton or Simmonds. It's just not a viable strategy to keep changing the fringes of the roster every year for the next 5 years and having to continuously develop chemistry as players leave and keep hoping to get luckyThey exist. They'll never play a more meaningless season. They could go 82-0 never allowing a goal and it won't matter. So let's fast forward to next season.
I'm trying to envision a scenario in which I have any faith at all in the team if it comes back as is. Imagine these things happened?
- Leafs set new franchise record for Wins! .... yeah but wait for the playoffs
- Matthews wins the goal scoring title! .... yeah but wait for the playoffs
- Leafs win the President's Trophy! .... yeah but wait for the playoffs
- Marner wins the Art Ross! .... yeah but wait for the playoffs
- Keefe finalist for Jack Adams Award! .... yeah but wait for the playoffs
I mean seriously, if the amazing happened and any one of those things happened... how could you react with anything but wait for the playoffs?
If that's the fan reaction... how in the hell could they start next season without a massive shake up?

Wasn’t that was Simmonds, Bogo, others were for, the killer instinct.

I'd argue that some of the depth could help provide a spark as well. Certain players just have it, and here's hoping a gut like Robertson, Anderson, etc.. doyep, Spezza too. The whole organization is at a dead end and their only hope is the Big 4 will take a jump.

I'd even stretch that to playoffs and I can't imagine the pressure this team will face in any opportunity to clinch
Shit take. Maybe actually watch a game or two.
yeah, the team has definitely been hurt by a lack of contributing players on ELCs. Hopefully that will make a difference for the team, but I really am reconsidering the salary structure being viable. It's not really Dubas' fault that the cap won't go up for many more years, but he might have to reconsider tooI'd argue that some of the depth could help provide a spark as well.
