Yeah, we ultimately need to get back to normal. We just have to get there without overwhelming our hospitals, doctors, and nurses. What does that mean? Vaccinate children? Invest in more hospitals and staff? Make all indoor venues upgrade their ventilation and air filtration?
Sounds like everyone getting the vaccine is the plan. Those that don’t will be cast off from most things in life for the foreseeable future.

As soon as passports began the restaurant went dead as f***

Not here, at all.

Since most people are vaccinated on the island the restaurants have been busy as usual. It turns out that they weren’t being carried by unvaccinated folks.

Perhaps things are different back in the Odub.

The passports haven't begun. Right it is a piece of paper that could be forged by a 6 year old. And the antivaxxers are ignorant enough to do that out of pure spite. I won't take part in anything like that until there's a more secure system in place.

Assen na yo!

We have a screenshot name and QR code that we all have on our phones (assuming that you be is vaccinated, and took the 5 minutes to set up the app). People can print it, or use the paper vaccine card for a few more weeks.

Restaurants scan the codes from their phone or tablet when you come in. You can also be added to their entry list as we are at our usual watering holes.

Works pretty well, but B.C. was quick to roll it out, and integrated it into their already existing online health gateway. The app was already available giving you access to your entire provincial medical history. This was added.

The vaccinations were already added to your digital health record so the retrieving it and making a pretty screen to screen shot was simple enough I imagine.

We have had a much different experience than our neighbours to the 4th wave so far which is a relief. Keep the hospitals clear and we can return to normal is the key. Otherwise it’s cancelled surgeries across the board, and airlifting patients across the country.

Places with low vaccination rates and limited to no restrictions in place are being overrun right now, it really is that simple.

Isnt this pretty much exactly where we are at now? Mask and vax and you can do pretty much everything?

I doubt this will last forever. I can see in the years to come the covid vax will turn into like a flu shot kinda thing. Will take time but that’s where I see it eventually.

From the way things look, I wouldn't be surprised if covid is considered endemic in western countries sometime after xmas.

We're just about out of this thing.

Went for breakfast this morning to a local restaurant, a sign on the door said we needed vaccine passports to get in. We had to go back home to get mine before we were allowed in even though it's possible some of the waitresses, cooks or waiters may not have been double vaccinated. It's also possible that those sitting around the outside patio tables may also not have been fully vaccinated.

Unfortunately it's a sign of our times right now for society to feel safe & those that are not double vaccinated are slowly being excluded from social outings. I will also need my vaccine passport as proof to get into the football game on Tuesday & into any hockey games this yr as well. It's becoming the norm now & those who still are not vaccinated are being painted into a corner by authority & policed by society. While I agree it's another way of dividing us into opposing camps it's also a necessary evil to keep the majority of society safe & have a hard time conceiving of a better method or compromise. Those who don't believe in the vaccine against those who want to be safe from Covid. I fought authority but authority always wins OR the safety of the many out weighs the reluctance of the few.

On the bright side the government extended my EI again… I was over 420 hours last year

At least the government is paying me for the lost revenue… For all I complain, at least they give me money to pursue my hobbies

The vaccine passport purpose is to divide society into 2 groups :

- people who respect others freedom so they can socially meet as safely as possible
- others who simply don't (even if they complain about human rights and freedom, it's just a lack of understanding, aka stupidity)

The "anti-everything" are lucky we're so tolerant as a society and we still accept to treat them for the virus in hospitals. The problem though is that the heatlh system is overloaded, staff is tired and quitting. As a result, a lot of people are having colleteral problems, a late diagnosis or waiting too long for a surgery

But hey "civil rights!"

We went to Montreal for Labour Day weekend, shortly after the Quebec vaccine passport came in to effect. Had to show proof of vaccination and photo I’d before entering any restaurant.... every single one of them was packed.

Could always make 1 small hospital in each region a non-vax Covid hospital and if that hospital fills up - you go home and take your chances with COVID and even die at home. Israel did this, Not that I agree with it but on some level it made sense to me

Vax pass bad

Evidence shows the best way to get people vaccinated is to engage with them and have a person they trust talk to them about getting vaxed. Trusted engagement is by far the most productive way of changing peoples minds. #2 way of getting people vaxed is having someone they know and like die of COVID because they are unvaccinated.

vacinne passport doesn’t increase vax rates and evidence shows it makes people more firm in their “beliefs” to not get vaxed because they feel alienated. If the point of all of this is to get people vaxed and not enjoy a meal at Fratellis (who’s staff don’t have to be vaxed which is the stupidest thing ever) then keeping the non Vaxed engraged and being able to treat them fairly and equally is by far the best strategy to increase vax rates. So I don’t like the vaccine passport because it is creating an us vs them society and that’s more damaging then letting the unvaxed die

You are wrong.

I personally know a handful of people who weren’t vaccinated for a variety of reasons, who got vaccinated because they wanted to be able to join friends and loved ones at restaurants and pubs. Not all were pleased about it, but the alternative was less attractive. That is the point of the vaccine passport.

The passport is to bump those that are on the fence, or have been too ‘busy/lazy’ to get it done, NOT to convince antivaxxers to get it done.

You don’t convince an antivaxxer, not even loved ones. Everyone else is movable if their lives are made to be a bit more uncomfortable, while providing an easy solution.

I don’t know what you guys are doing out east, but we can all have our passport saved on our phone. It’s about as difficult to leave it at home or leave it in the car as it is to do either with your $1000 smart phone.

I was talking about anti-Vaxers and not lazy/busy people like your friends. Anti Vaxers can be convinced and dividing society into an us vs them is the least productive way to do it, it just creates a larger divide between people
