as bad as ullmark was in games 2 5 and 6.
he probably stops that first and 3rd goal in game 7.
I thought his positioning was off, played pretty deep in his net looked a little rusty, and he was ,he also made some saves that I don’t think Ullmark would have made either.

The problem for me is we just witnessed how effective having two Top 15 netminders can be in today's NHL. You can manage their workload and get the most out of both guys. I see it much like managing the workload for starting pitchers in baseball now. Guys tossing shutouts and getting pulled after 6 innings. It's all about getting the most out of everyone over the course of the entire season.

And as we are seeing in the playoffs more and more, you just got to get to the dance and you never know what can happen. JUST GET IN!

We saw in 2015 and 2016 how detrimental it was not having a sound trusted 2nd goaltender. Basically cost them two trips to the playoffs.

You can't trade Ullmark and replace him with a Svedberg or Gustavsson-type. So if you do move him, your going to need someone at least capable to pair with Swayman. Well that goaltender isn't playing for free. People see Ullmark's 5.0 cap hit and it's like they think they'll save the entire 5 million. Your not bringing in some journeyman AHLer for 800k. Whoever would be the 2nd goaltender your probably looking at 2-3 million per.

So what are you really saving and you likely downgraded your chances of obtaining on of those coveted 8 playoff spots? Downgrade a legitimate strength of the team just to save a couple million in cap space?

I get the whole "sell high" part but it would be shooting the Bruins in the foot for next season IMO.

Anyone with 2 functional eyes, hell 1 functional eye could see Ullmark was hurt.

How goalie Bob, Uncle Bob, or Billy Bob or Monty in the headlights couldn't see this before game 7 is 100% incompetence..

I'm still ANGRY....

Not to mention Ullmark himself, and yet they stuck a rusty goalie in for a game 7,and I thought he looked a little rusty .

But can you still trust Ullmark in playoffs? Now he has played two series of playoffs and it hasn't been great. Let's say they bring Bergy back for one more year. Sway is number 1 and he get injured. Do you trust Ullmark to be a goalie for next series?

Ullmark was a different goalie this season. The best in the league. He was injured in the playoffs. If he was healthy I think the Bruins are still playing now.

Yes, I would trust him.

i think he wouldve been over there quicker than swayman.
swayman wasnt square on that one
Ullmark is also bigger than Swayman, and covers more of the net. Less of a chance the McAvoy tip goes by him.

I would love to revisit the comments about Tim Thomas circa 2009 and 2010.

To anybody seriously considering trading Ullmark after this season, I suggest watching a replay of Ullmark's 54 save masterpiece vs the Flames.

You don't think that pressure of playoffs is getting to him? Can't perform fully on must win situations.
Everyone aren't just playoff players. Not saying he is or he isn't. I'm just curious what people are thinking?

No.

The issues had to do with the players in front of him and the coach making too many moves. Goalies are creatures of habit. When you start messing with the D pairs and lines, it throws off their rhythm. Add in that he was clearly battling an injury and it leads to them being out of the playoffs.

It is easy to pile all over Linus but IMO, the ire should be directed elsewhere.

I trust Ullmark.

I agree what you're saying about it still being on Monty, but looking from his perspective of being a brand new coach and having Essena who has been here for what? 12 years or more? EDIT: 16 seasons

It kind of makes sense as a new head coach to defer to the coach who worked with both goalies last year and who specializes in goalies.

Doesn't absolve him of anything, but just saying I think it's understandable why he would defer to him. I love Essensa and seems like he is a large reason we always have great goaltending, but playing Rask and Ullmark hurt is something the organization needs to look into. That's two poor decisions (by Bob or by the head coach) at a position that really shouldn't be playing hurt.

I totally disagree, but I understand your argument.

During the first four games, Ullmark had one bad period (3rd period in game 2). So, in that respect, he seemed to be dealing with playoff pressure quite effectively. However, in game 5, the way he started flopping around at times, gave me flashbacks to Byron Dafoe. And in game 6, he definitely seemed rattled.

Looked a lot more like pressure of the playoffs was getting to the defensemen.

In all 3 Ullmark wins he looked much like himself. Game 5 he looked off. Game 6 he looked crippled.

You are too quick for me.

Took this post right out of my head.

But i've seen so many times that when defensemen doesn't trust they goalie fully, then pressure start to get them and they were trying to be extra careful with they decisions. This time it seemed that they tried to protect goalie even for bad angle shots and then they gave extra room on slots and that was one place where FLA scored goals for way too easy.

He got hurt against Capitals I was sitting there with daughter - both saw it both were surprised stayed in

Sat there games 1 and 2 with Jess a former original member here and he was constantly fidgitting, flexing, stretching, twisting when the puck was down the other end - dude was hurt

i would say that this was more ullmark not wanting to play for the sabres than the sabres
not wanting to sign him. tough choice. 4/20 with boston or about the same for a team
that hasn't made the playoffs since 'nam.

personally thought the contract was a little much for ullmark, but i do like him and
think he deserves at least 15-20 games before anyone starts taking a big steaming
dump on him. JMO.
Ullmark was great all year and will be great again

Dude was clearly compromised

Don’t fall into the mod mentality here LG

I wish I could, but I have lost all trust in Ullmark when it comes to the playoffs, this is 2 years in a row. Like many Bruins he is a regular season juggernaut and a playoff dud. If it comes to light that he was injured enough to affect his performance, Montgomery should be fired, inexcusable to not have played Swayman an excellent goalie in his own right. You would think this organization would have learned from persisting with an obviously injured Rask a few years ago against the Islanders. This organization loves to shoot themselves in the foot with incredibly dumb decisions.
