I wish I could, but I have lost all trust in Ullmark when it comes to the playoffs, this is 2 years in a row. Like many Bruins he is a regular season juggernaut and a playoff dud. If it comes to light that he was injured enough to affect his performance, Montgomery should be fired, inexcusable to not have played Swayman an excellent goalie in his own right. You would think this organization would have learned from persisting with an obviously injured Rask a few years ago against the Islanders. This organization loves to shoot themselves in the foot with incredibly dumb decisions.

Both years it appears to my untrained eyes anyways that his issues were physical and not mental.

New Jersey went with rookie Akira Schmid after Vitek Vanecek lost games 1 & 2 against the Rags. And all the Kid did was calmly outplay reigning Vezina winner Shesterkin at the other end of the ice.
Neither Lyon nor Bobrovsky looked good really , but no, we went with an injured goalie until game 7,same as we did with Rask .So I guess we can’t put this necessarily on Montgomery seems to be a pattern.

He played well in games 1, 3 and 4. Was he not hurt then as well? When they had a chance to clinch the series he was in bits. Are people (not you) saying he won despite of his injuries and then crapped the bed because of the same injuries?

I know the results haven’t been there in the playoffs but I still prefer Ullmark over Swayman. If the Bruins are considering moving a goalie I would be trading Swayman .

That’s a good point .

Bobrovsky was solid last night. I’m sure he is highly motivated and trying to redeem himself. I hope he does well.

Did his injury get worse as the series moved along ? Maybe it was more severe in games 5 and 6 ?

Yup, it’s unfortunate because we will be keeping guys who have been underwhelming playoff performers (Linus, Zacha, half the defense) yet let guys like bertuzzi walk.

Maybe FLA tried to do too much at home and pressure made them crap the bed? They weren't so aggressive in games 3 or 4. Boston seemed to be aggressor little more on those games.
Linus is a big boy and with decent position play he can get some of those over .900 games even if he is hurt.

I’m Team Ullmark

Thought he was fantastic season

My opinion - was banged up but able to play and well enough.

I’ve had bronchitis and flu and had to stay out of work - but had bad cold I felt like shit but loaded up on Alka Seltzer cold & flu and went to work and was productive (that’s subjective applying to me)

That was Ullmark - not 100 % but good enough

But he also did something he hadn’t trained for in 7 months (October-mid April) play 4 games in 7 days on top of and he lived at the intersection of Fatigue and banged up

Baseball savants like myself are well aware of the reduced performance when a starting pitcher in playoffs goes from 4 days of rest to 3 days- statistically it’s huge

My takeaway now and going forward

Ullmark elite G

If you want to maximize performance he plays no more then 45 starts in a rotation and playoffs you likely need to pay close attention

I hope this doesn’t upset any Ully haters

the thing that pisses me off is I dont know why they bothered starting a rusty swayman in a game 7, when we couldve started him in game 6. Monty should be questioned about that.
I even mentioned that in one of the polls for game 6 goalie.
Even though ullmark was bad in game 6 I think he still shouldve been in there for game 7.
putting swayman in a do or die game while not playing for 2 weeks was crazy.

Two things

1. Ullmark was banged up because he had multiple game time decisions and didn’t even practice Friday

2. If Ullmark comes out and says he had a pretty deliberately injury as Kevin Weekes said it opens up a can of worms from the Fellowship directed at Monty and staff as to why they played him

Fans want to know but from organization standpoint let it fade away

I get the disappointment w the D and Linus, but Zacha did mostly great IMO. In particular when playing center

He made enough stops in games 3&4, but he was clearly laboring then. He had several of the unathletic moves across net where he ended up tumbling after the puck. But it was very visible watching the games that he was broken

Not sure if Florida didn't really adjust to his problems, till they had the extra day off before game 5.

Zacha has zero goals in 12 playoff games.

This series specifically sure he had 6 assists, but 0 goals, bruins goalies had an .854 sv% even strength with him on the ice and he was 48.4% in the face off dot.

I would say Lindholm underperformed the most from his normal standard of play. At least compared to what we saw during the regular season, especially the first half the year.

Clifton was terrible. Really out of clifton, gryz and forbort, none of them played well at all.

Orlov had a few defensive zone turnovers that lead directly to goals.

I would start with Clifton there's 1.

Wait I misread his post. Thought Rico meant Dmen to not keep.
No I’m saying we end up keeping the guys try at underperform in the playoffs and they guys like bertuzzi who play well will probably walk.

Yes thought Monty botched up these 3

The following is my opinion and what I noticed.

Likely scenario on Ullmark - injured somewhere in the final week or so of the season. Got treatment and was ok to start and play well in game 1. Late in game 1 or early in 2 he may have reinjured whatever was ailing him. Got treatment after game and possibly cortisone shot. Better for game 3 and 4 then injury surfaced again during the OT game. Fatigue may have been a factor as well as injury playing 6 straight. He should not have played game 6 he could barely move. Ideally they should have started Swayman in game 2.

Ullmark will win the Vezina so you ride what got ya this far until they were forced to switch. Same scenario played out with Rask.

I doubt Ullmark would have stopped the 3rd period goal that was tipped in game 7 or the OT goal. Not many goalies would have stopped the OT goal. They are all taught now to drop down in butterfly to cover low shots.

Orlov - trying to do too much and several times he jumped up in the play before the puck was out of the defensive zone. His partner ended up getting hemmed in and was unable to get the puck out.

That’s why the stooges are taking a full week after the players spoke to make sure all their stories match up with each other

Haula has 4 so far this playoffs alone. Yet all I heard all.year was how Sweeney duped the NJD.
