There are maybe 5 teams looking for a goalie around the league, and those teams were pretty easy to spot last year. Not all teams are looking to trade for and extend a goalie at a high price. The market for Ullmark was probably 5 teams, and they were easy to spot last year as teams that may be looking to upgrade in net.

Not all teams in the Western conference would be on his list, because you can be pretty sure some teams won't be trading for a goalie because they have their starter already (Ottinger/Hellebuyck/Demko/Saros/etc.) or are not teams looking to compete right now by trading value for a goaltender (Ducks/Sharks/Arizona/Seattle/Blackhawks/Calgary). You could have safely added 6 Western teams and felt confident.

Colorado
Vegas
Edmonton
LA
St. Louis
Minny

That would leave 10 teams in the East you can add in.

Then you look at: Shesterkin/Sorokin/Bobrovsky/Vasilevsky, that's 4 teams you don't need to add for sure. He's already walked from the Sabres, and they have UPL and Levi as young goaltenders they are giving the reigns too. Can add Carolina because they have been upfront about not paying their goaltenders.

Ottawa
Toronto
Montreal (doubtful they'd be looking for a golaie, but you can still add them)
Columbus
Flyers
Devils
Pens
Caps
Canes
Wings

Give or take a team from each conference.

It would have been pretty easy for Ullmark and his camp to create a 16 team list essentailly blocking every percievable trade partner. There aren't many teams looking to trade for bigtime goaltenders
Honestly, I was surprised we were allegedly on the list, we'd just signed Korpisalo to a four year deal, it would have made sense for him and his agent to strategically leave us off thinking it unlikely that less than a year later we'd be right back in the hunt for a goalie.

I think the return itself is strong evidence that Bos lacked leverage, and while maybe there were some other options, those teams might have just preferred the option of targetting backups ready for a started gig, like Brossoit, or Stolarz, or been on his NTC.

So we were not on his No-trade list yet Garrioch said that he had waived his NTC. Also Ullmark said there has been no talks about extension yet Garrioch tweeted they were working on an extension right after the trade. Lol
He hasnt been right about anything since Dorion left. Time to hire a respectable beat reporter.

Ok but the whole theory that this was a closed negotiation with 1 potential trade partner is undone because he waived his NTC for a team that was on his list. There wasn't only 1 trade partner and he waived his NTC for a team on the list. It's an assumption that doesn't make a lot of sense because of the facts we have. And it's somehow being used in support of this theory that Boston are morons who got totally taken to the woodshed by Staios. They sold their backup goaltender for a late 1RP and secured a veteran backup at a good price to play behind their stud. If they hadn't got what they wanted, they would have kept him and dealt him at the deadline for a different package.

Ottawa wasn't on his list, he never had to waive to come here, that was just an example of how he could have made his list eliminating prettty much any team from being able to trade for him

Boston had Ottawa to work with, that was really it. He blocked waiving his NTC to LA, Toronto and apparently Vegas and NJ. Ottawa was the only team left looking at him that he never had to waive, and that was only for another 6 days before his new NTC would be in play. He had to be traded before July 1st or Ullmark could quite literally block a trade to every team looking, because he would have a revised list knowing every team looking.

This is insane. Why are you dumping on this? The "back up" has a Vezina. The veteran they got needs to get his eyes fixed and wears his helmet sideways. I swear if we were to win the Cup next year you would say "Why are you excited? Somebody wins it every year, it's not a big deal. What you going to do, have a parade down Bank Street now?"

This makes the most sense. He didn't have Ottawa on his list because it appeared that it wasn't necessary. Ottawa was very unlikely to go after a big $$ goalie after signing Korpisalo.

I still can't figure out why Boston took Korpisalo. Must figure he's not as bad as he played last year and is a good backup at 3m.
It doesn't make a lot of sense to me either. I was shocked. I love the positivity about Korpisalo turning things around, no reason not to hope for the best for him, but until he actually does that, it's just words. This idea that he's a "quality back up" isn't accurate based on the data available until he disproves the statistics. Is he closer to the guy LA got for half a season or the 3 other bad seasons surrounding that season?

Has Ullmark actually said that,
as half the people say he was and half say he wasn’t.

A veteran backup at a good price ...

Wow, that's doing a lot of heavy lifting to describe Korpisalo.

Seriously. Feels pretty hollow. Doesn't the guy need to prove himself to actually be capable of this?

One day he's a albatross we're talking about buying out, sending to the minors, or sending 1st's to dump, then next he's a solid backup and a savvy move by the other GM. Makes no sense.

If we're out of playoff contention by the TDL, I imagine a pedestrean season by Ullmark would be a part of it. Hardly a situation that would let him pick his own spot.
Even an average season by him won't be blamed on him if we're shit. His long-term performance would give him the benefit of the doubt and lack of success would be attributed to being on a shit team.

Every goalie that leaves here has an improvement and this is the best goalie we've had in a long time.. he's going to be valuable. It's only a 15 team no trade list, he may not even have a choice.

I understand the theory about why we may have been left off the list (just signed Korpi), but is it so inconceivable that maybe Ottawa was a destination he would have preferred to the ones he had on the list? We know family is important to him and Ottawa is a great city to raise your kids. Not everyone wants to be in the LA’s and New York’s of the world.

The desolate wasteland of Ottberia is good for only three things: raising reindeer, sled dogs and children. That is the only conceivable reason anyone would choose here as a FA destination

It is absolutely hilarious that Garrioch went 0/2 in things that should be found out quite easily from talking with the Sens front office, or if not told shouldn't be stated as fact

We know that he no longer has any Sens contacts or Dorion feeding him as he strokes his ego.

The “Bruins insider” was also wrong on many things and we know that Martian Sens guy is full of BS

It’s nice knowing our FO has it together and isn’t full of leaks and is professional
