Does anyone really think we'd be a worse team if we hadn't traded a bunch of picks for additional depth over the last year?

Subtract Stepan, Gudbranson, Watson, J.Brown and Reilly and we have the following roster:

Tkachuk - Tierney - Brown
Stutzle - Norris - Dadonov
Paul - Brown - Batherson
Paquette - Anisimov - White
Galchenyuk, Balcers, Chlapik

Chabot - Zaitsev
Wolanin - Coburn
Brannstrom - Zub
Jaros

Murray
Hogberg

Not much worse than our current roster, and we'd have 8.5M in salary and a 2nd+3rd+4th+4th+5th+Balcers in additional assets we could use to sign/trade for a couple actual difference makers. Adding Paquette+Coburn+ 2nd was smart, but the other moves were not.

Such a misallocation of resources.
If you don’t see the value of Josh Brown you don’t know hockey. Gudbranson was a waste and the only way Stepan would have made sense is by moving Arty to the AHL. Getting Paquette was dumb, we should have taken Coburn only.

I mean... just look at that lineup.

PP1
batherson-tkachuk-Dadonov
Chabot-Brown

PP2
Stutzle-stepan-Norris
Brannstrom-Galchenyuk

PK1:

Watson-Paul
Zaitsev-Gudbranson

PK2:

Tierney-Brown
Chabot-Brown

Insane how this is rocket science. I really hope we see this 5 games from now.

Well Coburn and Brown already are facing the most shot attempts per 60 of any pair in the league... So ...

That’s not a surprise - they don’t play with a decent possession line and are usually matched vs a scoring line.

I'm sure no other pairing in the league has ever had such a fate... travesty really.

That said, top 5 most common line mates for Coburn:
Stepan
Dadonov
Batherson
Paquette
Tkachuk

So a mix of our top 2 lines, and Paquette

Top 5 most common opposition:
Appleton
Lowry
Mikheyev
Kerfoot
Copp

Mix of Bottom 6 players

Not getting particularly tough deployment, at least not enough to argue it's the root cause of poor metrics.

Hmmm - so your saying Chabot, Z, and Gud are better ? I’m okay with that?

I guess we are a bottom team and they are a bottom pair. I like what Brown has done. I’d be curious to how that looks after more games. What was the stat that had Chabot - Z as the best pair ? Notnsure that is any more accurate.

I personally think J Brown has been decent. Besides Chabot, most intrigued about him long-term fitting in versus other D other than Wolanin.
Absolutely. Big guy with some mobility that can PK. He uses his long reach well, I hope his confidence with the puck grows as he gets more reps, he has made a couple nice breakout passes but is very quick to go glass and out most of the time. Solid 3rd pair / PK guy for a few years.

I mean, he's been ok, but we're talking about a bottom pair dman here, seems a little dramatic. If I don't like Brown does that mean I have no soul too?

Nah. It's just that there's not a lot to excited about on this D-unit right now. Throw us a bone, would ya?

I understand needing some vets to help the youngsters, but this is a little much. The young first line is generating the most chances. Embrace the youth, DJ.

Tkachuk - Norris - Batherson
Stutzle - Tierney - Dadonov (Tierney has earned this spot for now)
Paul - White - Brown (There's no reason to not play White)
Galchenyuk - Stepan - Watson (Gal is only here for the PP. I'd rather Formenton here. I think Stepan has been useless on the ice, but I guess his possession numbers are OK)
Paquette has been invisible and Arti has been up and down.

Chabot - Zaitzev
Wolanin - Brown
Branstrom - Gud (he's been anything but good. I would take Boro every day of the week over him)

Murray has been as bad as I feared. We aren't winning a thing this year, so give the young guys reps. Let them make mistakes.

Another team would be doing Ottawa a big favour if they took Haley, Peca, Coburn, Anisimov, Stepan or Paquette off waivers. haha

Dorion’s Folly - the Off-season acquisition of old vets to add leadership to the team to lead the young prospects to the promised FYOUS.

The D has been predictably bad, with the exception of Zaitsev who has been surprisingly adequate and Chabot who has been unexpectedly poor.

We should only have one of Rielly or Wolanin, the former has never been more than a 6/7 that needs to be sheltered but is somehow in our top 4 while the latter had missed a year of development to injury and is still playing catchup. Whether he ever gets to where he can be is yet to be determined.

I'd like to see Brannstrom in over Reilly (or Wolanin). Heck take both out and give Coburn another game.

I'd like to see what we have in Zub, he won't likely solve anything though.

I wonder if they’d fly anyone in for the remaining of the road trip.

Doubt it. I think we make due with the taxi squad for now.

To make matters worse they need to waive somebody if they want to bring in a fresh body. So who do we waive?

You certainly can’t waive Arti Parti... he’d be snatched up in seconds...

Lots of candidates. However, I suspect the most likely scenario will be that one of Norris, Stutzle, Bath gets sent to the taxi squad since they dont need waivers. My immediate guess is that Timmy Superstar is gonna be the odd one out, possibly even to Manheim at some point. And that's when the fanbase will really explode.
