Perfect.

After 5 games see who on the bottom pair is faltering and throw Zub in. If it's struggling immensely through Brannstrom in(but he's coming in 10-15 more games I'd believe).

Reilly and Anisimov should never play another game unless serious injuries to the team.

Need to make room for Formenton and eventually Abramov too. Galchenyuk needs to be on the too. We can use him on the power play

Didn't Smith say that we were going to play Zub at some point on the road trip?

Doesn't that mean someone needs to go on waivers? Maybe Coburn? Maybe Anisimov (and the reason they've been playing him is boost his value so someone claims him?)

Someone on IR as well.
The more likely explanation is it was just BS

Couldn't one of the waiver exempt players go to the taxi squad?

Another team would be doing Ottawa a big favour if they took Haley, Peca, Coburn, Anisimov, Stepan or Paquette off waivers. haha

Does anyone really think we'd be a worse team if we hadn't traded a bunch of picks for additional depth over the last year?

Subtract Stepan, Gudbranson, Watson, J.Brown and Reilly and we have the following roster:

Tkachuk - Tierney - Brown
Stutzle - Norris - Dadonov
Paul - Brown - Batherson
Paquette - Anisimov - White
Galchenyuk, Balcers, Chlapik

Chabot - Zaitsev
Wolanin - Coburn
Brannstrom - Zub
Jaros

Murray
Hogberg

Not much worse than our current roster, and we'd have 8.5M in salary and a 2nd+3rd+4th+4th+5th+Balcers in additional assets we could use to sign/trade for a couple actual difference makers. Adding Paquette+Coburn+ 2nd was smart, but the other moves were not.

Such a misallocation of resources.

I don’t - your lines don’t offer any stability vs opposing forwards and you 4-5-6 Dman get fed.

We are currently last in the league (3rd last in pts%) not much worse we could get...

Also, why no Stützle?

Our vets like Watson, Anisimov, Paquette have been getting caved in. What kind of stability are they providing?

And like I said, we'd have 8.5M and many extra picks that we could use to add another good D or two.

Forgot about him. Will edit.

No body there is close to Watson and Arti is around because of the Smith deal. As bad as he is he is 2-3 in scoring from last years returning players. Nobody likes Arti, you don’t have to argue that. Give Paquette time, if he sucks in few games we’ll see Chaplik or whoever. It’s only game 6.

Stutzle has played 2 games ... how worried are you ?

I would have been OK with getting one of Gudbranson or J. Brown but don't like the make up of our D with both. Otherwise I agree with you. Besides players like Watson, J.Brown, Gudbranson, etc. WILL become available for cheap part way through the season. So get them then if, as a coach and GM, you notice that the rooks are getting overwhelmed. I just don't see DJ and Dorion getting those kinds of nuances though.

DJ Smith has been playing Artem Anisimov the way the team should be playing Logan Brown imo.

Norris beat him in camp for that last top 6 centre spot? No problem, centre some vets on the 4th line the team acquired to “protect the young guys” and give him time on the powerplay. Once Stepan busts out as 2C after 4 games boom, there’s Logans top 6 spot

Except for some reason the coach is playing Anisimov instead like he’s a top 5 prospect lol, 60% ozone starts and second game in a row as 2C

Yeah I'd be fine with one, but not the other. Especially since we also acquired Coburn. Can't play Coburn with either of them because the puck will never be moved out of the zone.

Well Coburn and Brown already are facing the most shot attempts per 60 of any pair in the league... So ...

Not shocking. Neither of them can move the puck. Of course they are going to get hemmed in their own zone.

Obviously need a puck mover paired with either guy.
