Smart vs not smart I guess depends on how much they think it matters to move on from him. I’m still of the same opinion you are, that they won’t.

But at forward they have Savoie, Kulich, Rosen and Ostlund starting ELCs next season. Combined with the cap going up and most of their top guys already locked in. They should be able to pull it off with those ELCs.

Reality is that ruff, Berube and gallant are essentially 6 of one, half dozen of the other - I’m fine with it. We picked the equivalent dog we knew and the one we know can coach a more offensive minded team

For me it was really down to those three…of what I thought they’d go after…and if Lindy was left in the dust in some way by them I’d get the being upset. but he doesn’t. Does he fixate on riding a young player he picks seemingly at random? Sure does. But there are real questions about what happened with every young talented forward in NY under Gallant. And he has Berube on X’s and O’s by a mile.

I look at each guys big “issue” and see:

Berube - is it at all a fit for what’s here?
Gallant - what happened with young skill forwards in NY?
Lindy - …he worked here before and someone might laugh at us.

Funny side note about that. The day I saw him and his wife out at the movies was during the game Byram made his Sabre debut. So I know he skipped that one (so did I)

Safe if not the safest pick. Lindy has taken 3 different teams to the playoffs including 3 different versions of the Sabres to the playoffs.

The coaching has been so bad Its been hard to tell how good the roster is. Lindy wont be the problem if we don’t make the Playoffs. The roster will be(or really bad goaltending)

This really shows you how tight lipped the organization is. It was like a day ago that Friedman said he was working to find out if the Lindy thing was even a real thing or not. He’s as plugged in as anyone in the league…and couldn’t confirm if the INTEREST was a rumor or not
