This organization, like Hollywood, is completely out of fresh ideas. Just lazy sequels.

Hey, at least this head coach hire involved the GM actually driving down the street to conduct his interview, vs the last hire which required a simple jaunt down to the end of the hallway. Who knows, maybe next time we look beyond the greater Buffalo metropolitan area to find our next coach.

In any case, good luck Lindy.

Appert is an interesting variable in all of this. He's been a good soldier and done an excellent job in roch, but I am not sure we know what he is capable of. Presumably, because it was the farm, he's been coaching and executing the same system that they used at the NHL level - which was flawed.

Lindy when there’s a job opening in Buffalo and the young players publicly begged to be ridden hard and held accountable

Lindy getting the opportunity to turn back the clock on his coaching style probably had him drooling

I'll have to see if we have the archive of the original "Fire Lindy" thread to prep for later.

I believe I started it.
It is like over on the main boards where they didn't even give the lindy firing it's own thread. the Granato fired thread was appended with the Lindy hiring.

Maybe start a thread: Lindy Fired, Rolston hired, Rolston fired, Nolan hired, Nolan fired...

Well, you get the drift.

I have a feeling Adams hired him partly so that there’s another voice insisting on buying out Skinner.

Safe if not the safest pick. Lindy has taken 3 different teams to the playoffs including 3 different versions of the Sabres to the playoffs.

The coaching has been so bad Its been hard to tell how good the roster is. Lindy wont be the problem if we don’t make the Playoffs. The roster will be(or really bad goaltending)
I personally don’t think coaching was the problem this year either. The roster is clearly flawed to anyone with two eyes and not a homer.

I personally hate how clear it is that a true search wasn't done to find the best candidate. Not saying Lindy isn't that, but they clearly just called him, asked him to come back and wiped their hands. This feels like a PR choice and not the best choice. Hopefully I'm dead f***ing wrong.

So happy to have an experienced winning coach who’s love is our city and wants nothing more then to bring a championship home.

This is where he started and will retire his coaching career. Welcome home Lindy!

Personally, Lindy is the only coach choice where I’d have Appert be an assistant on the Sabres. Because it’s probably the only guy with a two-year contract who’d be willing to treat Appert as more of an apprentice than a threat.

Granato deserves some blame for this season.
And so does Lindy

Many factors including Granato are to blame.
There are plenty of folks who think Granato was the only thing standing in the way of the playoffs. Not saying you were one of them.

think anybody with a brain wasnt blaming the entire season on Granato
That’s what it seemed like to me on many nights this season. Just as much toxicity on this board against Granato as there is in the main board thread against Lindy, in any case. I see it as the same attitude just aimed at two different coaches.

I'd be fine with either (or both)......but would either leave their CHL HC jobs to come here?

Hell......maybe we can sell McKee on "Be Lindy's assistant and if all goes well, you're the next HC"
That would be awesome. I dont know much about McKee as a coach, but I remember him fondly as a player. I'd love for him to be a role model and voice in the lockerroom.

I'm good with the hire. Ruff isn't without his flaws, but he's solid enough. I wonder what his vision of the team will be? He'll want some veterans he can lean on.

My favorite thing about this hire is that it was very quick, and we don’t waste any of the offseason. He’ll be able to work with the team before the playoffs even end, which is important to me.
It’s beneficial for him to watch guys like Kulich and Rosen in the AHL playoffs considering one or both will probably be up in Buffalo.

I'm a bit tired of the organization always looking for hires with connections to the team. It almost always happens. I was sincerely hoping for more of an outside hire this time. I pounded for Boudreau back when Granato was hired and have mainly stayed away from the boards since Don was hired because it was just more of the same BS. I'd love to be wrong. I was just telling my gf about the goalie fights with the Flyers back in the day(I got to see one live). I love me some nostalgia. But I like winning more. Yes, Lindy had a great year with the Devils. But that obviously didn't last. I'll pay attention more than I have the past 3 seasons, but unless they actually start winning, I'll stay lurking.

That KA wasn’t shown the door along with Granato was a portend to this hire. Firing Granato was a knee jerk PR move. It didn’t come from a lucid examination of the organization. Of those available he checks a lot of boxes. I guess it could be worse. Besides KA avoided embarrassing Terry having other candidates say “Thanks, but no thanks.”
