Ferly is one of my favorite players so i was sad to see him go. He was asked by the media before why he wasn't his physical self. He said too play on the top line he it took too much energy. But i don't agree with most Flames fans when they say he only scored 20 goals cause of Johnny or Mony. He has a wicked shot and he has speed. I saw many nights he was the best player on the 1st line. I hope he scores 30 this season. PS he was playing injured the last 2 to 3 months of the season.

I've been reading up on Ferland and he really seems like an interesting guy. came from humble beginnings to say the least. went sober to seize control of his life again. loves to fish. lots of connections with indigenous communities in Brandon and around Calgary. there's a kind of rawness when he's giving interviews, like he doesn't even know how to do the fake enthusiasm thing. I hope he's able to get comfortable in Raleigh and settle in. seems like someone the fans could really learn to root for.

He’s going to like the fishing and weather here.

“Obviously when you've been in one place for five years it's hard to see anything else, to see yourself anywhere else. I've got a lot of good friends, teammates. That's a young group there and we became pretty close. The fans there were unbelievable, too, supporting me even though the tough times.”

Thanks for not trashing us Lindy! I’ll miss him as a Cane. He always had one of my favorite personalities on the team.

I'll miss you Lindy

Good luck except when you play us twice a year and whenever we meet in a Stanley Cup final.

Sounds like the rumors of Hanifin resenting bring drafted by a non hockey market were true. Those statements from him kind of make me a little glad he isn't here anymore.

for clarity, the statement "it's what you kinda miss in carolina" was made by lindholm, not hanifin. lindholm was the only player quoted in the article.

I don't have a link to provide as it hasn't been uploaded yet, but Eric Francis, Calgary's beat writer, was on NHL Network Radio on SiriusXM this afternoon and stated that Hamilton was traded in part because Calgary felt that "he's not uncomfortable losing." Considering the post-trade trashing of Lindholm and Hanifin certain posters here have been doing in recent days, that stood out to me.

He also went on to talk about Fox and said that "there's no chance he's going to play in Carolina." Francis felt that he is New York-bound, be it the Rangers or Islanders.

The one thing I wonder is if Carolina cleared out space for Fox next season, if that could coax him into not waiting around until he becomes a UFA. Flip Faulk for a forward. Trade van Riemsdyk. Give Fox the 3rd pairing RD slot. A Harvard degree is worth a lot, but $1.85 mil (+ potential bonuses) and an RFA 2nd contract a year earlier is also a lot to leave on the table.

With Carolina likely coming out of the offseason still on the fringes, perhaps it would be worth dealing with the growing pains of a rookie OFD to get him in the system. Francis spoke glowingly about his upside.

I’m not going to have any negative thoughts about Hamilton, Ferland, or Fox unless they do something that warrants it here.

Even if there is truth to this a change of scenery may be just what he needs.

The culture of this team is changing. There will be no more room for that with RBA, Staal, Williams, Aho, and Svech as the leadership/core of the team. All of those guys are competitors and will make sure this team as a whole is as well.

So two teams traded their "losers" for a change of scenery?

OK. Fine with me. We got the best loser out of the deal. Good luck with Pastor Bill.

"I'd talked to the owner in Carolina and he told me if nothing happens we might trade you during the draft. But you never know what team's going to trade for you, where you're gonna end up."

"He wants way too much money". Yeah.

When you think NHL," he says, "you pretty much think Canada. That's where hockey starts.
"I'm excited for the chance to be a part of that. It's what you kinda miss in Carolina.

So, Hanifin and Elias - two pretty hyped kids for playing in Canada.

If he wants to know what he missed in Carolina, he can take a drive over to Edmonton and ask guys who were there in 2016 what it’s like to play in Canada when you haven’t produced a playoff appearance in a decade.

something that seems relevant to the chance that darling is on this team starting next season is the acquisition of ferland. i remember when josh hamilton was a ranger and the team did a lot to attempt to create the proper atmosphere for his success both personally and on the field. i hate to speculate about anyone's sobriety, but even on a level of just knowing the struggle it seems like ferland and darling could potentially benefit a lot from one another. ferland has been very forthcoming about his sobriety being linked to his success and darling has done the same. it doesn't strike me as particularly coincidental that this could be a move designed to generate some trust for darling inside the room. he seemed very much like an outsider last season.

Eric Francis is often completely full of shit, if he’s the Calgary writer I’m thinking of.

Do not even put stock into Eric Francis. The guy is the biggest tool there is. 99% of the Flames fans hate him. He likes to stir **** up in his articles. Just no...

That’s what I thought. I’m pretty sure he had a completely unsolicited takedown of the Canes a couple years ago or something that made zero sense. Either that or he just had a completely asinine article that was so stupid it got national attention.

Unfortunately he does have insight into the Flames organization but I think he likes to twist and add his own facts in there too. I'm just not a fan of his at all.

He absolutely ripped into Monahan this season because "lack of leadership and character".. yet Mony played with 4 injuries (resulted in surgeries) for several months. I read somewhere that Mony was pissed off when the team asked him to shut it down and he wanted to keep going. But Francis called him out for "lack of character"

Francis is a total hack, but I do think there’s something here as he has access to the team. The Flames leadership was all brought into question after how they just completely fell apart last season. All of the teams leadership was brought into question and that is when it was initially stated that there was issue in the dressing room with leadership. The coaches were all let go and it was stated that roster moves would be made to address chemistry.

For the record I don’t think Dougie is a bad guy, but he’s clearly different from your average player. Anyways because Carolina tends tends to not have their players in the spotlight, it could be the perfect environment for him.

Ferland is a beauty and a warrior. You guys will love him. I’ll miss both players.

Thanks for the insight. I keep thinking that the acquisition of Hamilton is eerily similar to the acquisition of Pitkanen by Rutherford years ago. That trade worked out pretty well for CAR, and Pitkanen was a pretty good D for us that really seemed to flourish in Raleigh. He also had already been traded by his 2 previous teams for “locker room” issues. He was a free-wheeling weirdo, but he was undeniably our best D for the 4 or 5 years he played for us prior to his freak injury.

I hope Hamilton settles in like Pitkanen did and can appreciate the Raleigh area like a lot of other players have, and that he sticks around on a long term deal after his current 3 year deal is up.
