I wasn’t a fan of Pitts, but mostly because of the teams use and expectations of him. He didn’t have the mental make up of a top dog but they expected him to be one. As a complementary piece of a solid group he’s a stud, as the lone skilled “vet” of an underwhelming group where he’s expected to do everything he was out of his element.

I hear a lot of guys were real successful as the lone good defenseman in a group of shitty ones.

this doesn't sound like a player unwilling to negotiate. makes me wonder if carolina has any crazy ideas regarding playing him right away if that's a requirement to get him signed right now. fox has the smarts to potentially skip the ahl. scouts rave about how great he thinks the game. right shot offensive defenseman would be a hole created by a faulk trade.

I wonder how direct quote the Canes bit is. Did Fox himself say it just to that tune and signing the ELC is actually on the table, or did Lavalette conflate some of his own into it.

He DID participate in the camp, so there's that.

Will Butcher was a bit older but had worse stats than Fox in the NCAA. Just put up 44 points in NJ running their PP last year. The gap NCAA to NHL gap can be bridged.

If it gets him signed then I’m all for it. Bring in another veteran like Enstrom or Emelin to add experience and let TVR be a super solid #7 while giving Fox breathers throughout the year.

i took the last sentence of that tweet to be editorializing, but the part about "if carolina thinks i'm ready to go pro" to mean that the door to that consideration is open. it's a departure from previous rhetoric, which seems to be a good sign.

Couple all this with the fact that TvR’s contract negotiations are not a walk in the park and our management has no qualms with shipping out a guy who is playing hardball, I could see them giving Fox a shot. Now might be the best opportunity to get him signed; if we do sign TvR to an extension and keep Martin and McKeown as well, or RHD would be a ridiculous 7 potential NHLers deep. The more Fox ruminates on that next year at Harvard, the less likely I think he signs.

Man, how pissed are Calgary fans going to be if we're able to quickly get Fox to sign?

He likes muesems. I'm sure he will enjoy the numerous museums in the area.

Someone on the Calgary board also mentioned he spent a lot of time with sick children, always good to have guys like that on the team.

Know what would be hysterical? One of the writers who follows the team (or the team itself) should tweet during an off-day in training camp that the Canes had a team-building trip to a museum... and Hamilton didn't attend.

This doesn't sound like someone who is being portrayed as this picky prospect who will only sign where he wants. i think the fox signing business is being overblown. Kid just sounds like he wants to play where he will have a good chance to be an impact player.

What was that question? Something like..." We hear hockey's pretty big in Boston. For those of us down here, tell us how big it is?"

What the fuuuuuuuuuuck man.

And this is where you want a staff who doesn't bullshit. Tell the kid exactly where he stands and how important he is to the team. We fought to get him included in the trade for a reason, make it known. Thing is, thats what Dundon and Waddell have shown. They are straight shooters and I think that helps us get this done.
