This series was amazing from Ferland. Like I said, don't expect that from him in the regular season. He simply does not play like that anymore.
I hope he does well in Carolina. He's had some tough times with addictions in the past and has turned his life around big time.
I have a feeling that he'll be back to his wrecking ball days here in Raleigh, not because its a scenery change or anything like that, but because our coaching staff is going to make it clear to him that he was brought in to be physical and help give this team a mean streak mentally. I think pairing him with Svechnikov, who also has a physical aspect to his game, will bring out the best in both. A poor man's Legion of Doom, so to speak.

Where do you guys (what line) think Ferland will be on? In terms of 1,2,3,4.

Right now, its probably too early to really tell. Still have to figure out if there is another move to make (Skinner... maybe Faulk) and who would be coming in for any such move. Also have to figure if we are going to slot Aho at C this year. But the thinking I keep seeing repeated is wing on a line with Necas and Svechnikov.

very surprised negotiation rights to Derek Ryan didn't go over as well as part of the deal

- I all honesty I feel bad for Lindy - was looking forward to seeing him under a different coach.

As to the lofty expectations from the flames fans for their new first line - they are forgetting about Bill Peters

We're all hoping for line blenders. Personally I don't want Lindholm on the 1st line. I want three strong lines. If we get a UFA RW winger Lindholm could play anywhere in the top three lines as a C/RW and I'd be happy.

The "worst" place he could be is #3 RW but even that would be Bennett - Jankowski - Lindholm which now that I write that I want it.

Overall I'm really happy with this trade based on what I've read so far. A big one by the Canes, and I think we could benefit from it more than Calgary. Obviously we won't really know for sure until next season starts (and whenever the prospect decides if he wants to sign an NHL contract and play for us after next season). Players on paper is one thing, but them in action is another. We needed a solid change and not just for change's sake, and I think this was a good one all things considering.

"I'd talked to the owner in Carolina and he told me if nothing happens we might trade you during the draft. But you never know what team's going to trade for you, where you're gonna end up."

"He wants way too much money". Yeah.

When you think NHL," he says, "you pretty much think Canada. That's where hockey starts.
"I'm excited for the chance to be a part of that. It's what you kinda miss in Carolina.

So, Hanifin and Elias - two pretty hyped kids for playing in Canada.

Ferland had some concussion issues after that series so I don't know that he can/should really go back to that style. Last year he was all-hustle, reliable defensively and has a great shot. But the big hits weren't really there. I think most players at this point realize that throwing those hits isn't beneficial for them long-term.

EDIT: When I say "after that series" I mean the following season - not as a result of that series in particular. I just meant he doesn't play as physically any more.

Wonder what Hanifin will say to the 500 Flame reporters interviewing him after a game. A game where he gets turnstiled 3 times by Svech and the Flames lose 6-1 to the redneck Hurricanes?

I'm almost scared what the Calgary media is going to do if he pulls another play like this. Or one of his other 1000 brain farts in his own zone over the years.

He better be careful what he wishes for.

Not sure if this has been posted, courtesy of Calgarypuck user AC. Ferlands playoff series vs Vancouver. He only played part of the season in the NHL that year, as he was in the minors to start the season. He certainly doesnt bring it like this every game, as no human could sustain that intensity all year. But everytime I watch these clips, it brings a smile to my face.

Devastating hits, great plays and intensity.

The part where he just went ahead and bodychecked Eddie Lack gave me a freedom erection
