Yeah, my immediate instinct hearing all this stuff is that he's introverted and hates jock culture. Which makes me like him a lot more, and we've had players fitting that profile do well here before. Including and especially Pitkanen.

It's possible coming to this market and all that that entails does him some good. I just hope Tripp doesn't over do it.

Now really going by memory here but I don't remember reading any crazy stories on Hamilton in his Boston time, you more got the idea he's more of a quiet/lonely type.
Boston had the original 6 pressure with the love for toughness some years ago, slow& physical.
Not really what Hamiltons game is build on.

No one knows about Fox's intentions. The pessimists will give all the reasons why they don't think he'll sign here and the optimists will give all the reasons he will.

I think given how the negotiations are going with TVR and how McKeown, Martin and other righties in the system develop next season, he might be given a real shot to make the team in 2019. That could entice him to sign here. Or the logjam on the right side and the call of a bigger city or more successful franchise could sway him to go UFA. But no one knows right now. Maybe not even Fox himself.

As for the NHL players in the trade, like I've said before I'm already excited to have Hamilton. If we can figure out his partner or a good partner for Pesce, we've got a really solid top 4. Even better than the hypothetical one we once thought we would have with Hanifin, Slavin, Pesce, and Faulk.

If Ferland can remain a 20 goal, 40 point power forward type I really like the new mold of the forward group. We already have McGinn who punches above his weight, and we'll have the Russian Jamie Benn (just what I think of Svechnikov after watching more and more of him). Add Jordan Staal and we're all the sudden not quite as much of a pushover as we once were. Prospects like Foegele and Zykov also showed they didn't mind going to the net and taking punishment too.

I haven't read any of this thread yet. I wanted some time to let it sink in. Very bold move, but I think I overall like it, and the other moves that seem sure to follow it are exciting to think about.

I'll miss both our guys, and I wish them well, but hopefully the guys we get better.

On a personal note, I'll especially miss Lindy as my wife and I were having trouble coming up with a name we liked for our yet to be born son in early 2017. Finally, we started just going through the rosters of our teams in the Canes and Caps for any kind of inspiration and landed on Elias Alexander. He wasn't necessarily high on my list of favorite players, but he'll always have a special place in our hearts.

Still, I'm quite excited for the new direction.

Considerations on Fox signing a SPC:

- He's 20 (Feb 17th birthday) already, so Entry-level Slide is is no longer an option. He could have been signed this spring with them letting him burn a year off his ELC on 2017-18 (though pro contract would have made him ineligible for NCAA). Obviously that didn't happen but it'll in all likelines be on the table next spring again if nothing happens before it. We don't know if the hang-up for him this far has been the Harvard degree, NCAA eligibility, CGY or the prospective UFAness.

- Next year he is considered to be 21 years old regarding the signing age of his first SPC. That means if he signs in 2019 his ELC is 3 years long. If he signs in 2020 at 22 it will be a 2 years ELC. So as the CBA-mandated starting point, he hits RFA at the same time (2022) whether he signs in 2019 or 2020.

- Signing in the spring on either year has the negotiable burn option that would see him play in the late season and make him a RFA a year earlier in 2021. If he chooses to go UFA and signs the SPC after August 15th, 2020, he doesn't get that. He gets to pick his team though and has leverage to get max bonuses on his contract. Unlocking them is completely another thing obviously.

- If he signs to Canes in spring 2020 as a Harvard graduate but before the UFA period, they prolly let him burn the first year of his ELC in the 2019-20 season and the suspected lockout season 2020-21 would happen under his second and last ELC season.

Hey guys, I was going to share some insight on Dougie but I decided against posting the details on the internet because it's not my story to tell, but I just want to say I know from first hand accounts that he (and his brother) spent a lot of their personal time with sick kids at the children's hospital here in Calgary, and this is stuff that doesn't make it to the media for the public kudos. I know of a young lady whose final moments were made much easier and happier because of the time spent they spent with her.

Whether the rumours of his locker room reputation are true or not, I'm definitely a Dougie fan for life because of this as we've had a young family member affected by cancer so we know how rough it can be. You guys are going to love his visits to the children's hospitals during Halloween (Google it if you haven't seen what I'm talking about).

I'll miss you Dougie!

Oh yeah that solves the mystery. He's that guy who insists being Elsa leaving others with scraps.

And Wonder Woman in 2017 just when the movie was all the hoot.

Actually, I guess I can share this at since it's on the Flames twitter. This is the young lady I was referring to in my previous post. My friends are friends of her dad, and they think the world of Dougie and his brother (notice how Dougie is in almost all the pictures with her?). She was glowing when she told me about her first date with the Hamilton brothers and how she beat them both at air hockey.

Waddell said today that Calgary called asking how to get Lindholm right after they hired Peters.

Guy is so face-off obsessed it’s insane. I bet Lindholm taking faceoffs away from Staal drove Brindy absolutely bonkers just because it was his weak side. What kind of a look do you think a coach would get from Brind’amour if he was told his wing would be taking the faveoffs on the offside?

We could lose Ferland to ufa next summer and not get Fox, that would make this less of a great trade.

Hamilton’s character is taking a beating in Calgary right now, it seems they needed him gone. Seems a lot deeper than he likes museums.

So if that's the case, why do teams burn draft picks on college players if they can just finish college and sign with whomever?

And why do we think they wouldn't be able to resign Ferland? Has this team habitually had a problem keeping guys who needed to be resigned?

Apparently Gio was the anchor in that pairing though. He's the Slavin, while Hamilton was the Pesce.

In other words, the guy that you'd like to keep, but you know a lot of his success has to do with his defensive partner, so you're not too worried if they trade him.

Good thing we have a Slavin then. I’m guessing Hamilton is playing on the top pair and it won’t be a complete void offensively anymore.

Hurricanes GM Don Waddell Quiets Noah Hanifin Trade Rumors

"Our goal is to get [Hanifin] signed to a long-term deal and it goes back to Tom's [Dundon] philosophy as ownership that we have these assets and we want to tie them up for a long time. You got a young player who had his best season this last year who’s on the up-rise," said Waddell. "These kind of assets… you have to be very careful with how you manage it. You’re not gonna ever trade a young player — whether it’s Hanifin or anybody else — for a 30 year old good player. We got something going we feel with our young players and we have to keep that moving in the right direction.”

lol.
