ESPN didn't show the replay of that??? I was on the lower level on that side of the ice and I can tell you that Vasilevskiy made possible the best save I've ever seen an opposing goalie make at MSG. He definitely got a piece of it.
Somewhere in here somebody posted a replay angle with a great look. I was crapping on Strome when it happened, but Vasi indeed made a great save.

Having a guy like Reaves helps offset Maroon and any extra antics. You know that if the Rangers were up 6-2 and didn’t have Reaves then Maroon and the Lightning would run around taking liberties.

It is just one game but this shows that the Rangers have more then enough to beat Tampa. Yes they are two time defending Cup champs but that means nothing now. Carolina was gonna be the tougher opponent because of the way they played and luckily Carolina only truly played their game in Game 5. People put Tampa on this pedestal that they do not deserve; they earned their Cup in 2020 but they had to circumvent the salary cap last year to field the stacked team they had in the playoffs.

This year Tampa played by the cap rules and gave up a to try and add depth with Brandon Hagel and Nick Paul. Hagel was an ok player on a really bad Hawks team and hasn’t produced like he did in Chicago. Paul is ok but he is nothing special, plus he looks like Kratos from God of War. Neither one bring playoff grit or experience. Then we have Corey Perry who cannot win a Cup so just keeps hopping team to team chasing the Cup.

Brayden Point is a huge loss for the Lightning, and if the Rangers manage to beat the Lightning I’m sure we won’t hear the end of it that the Rangers only won because they didn’t have Point. That being said the Rangers gotta win all the games they can before Point returns because you know he is gonna play at some point this series.

I just want to provide some reality to all of us here, because we're feeling so good right now. It is time to come back down to earth and I hope the Rangers are coming back down as well. This Tampa team is a veteran team that knows how to win. They know how to shift momentum in a series. They know our weaknesses and they WILL start to expose them and take advantage. It's a fact. IF and I mean IF we win this series, it will be by an inch, not a mile. Game 2 is going to separate the men from the boys. LFGR.
Yup. Tampa already exposed some weaknesses and had some good looks. This will be a long series and they will be a very tough out. The problem for Tampa is we can exploit their weaknesses as well. Our special teams and goaltending will give them fits. You are right about game 2. It will be a big boy game for sure.

Gotta imagine Panthers players were watching that going "WTF were we doing?"
Read their board, much more enjoyable than the NJD board imo :)

Agreed and until he wins a Cup, Vasi will be considered better.

Igor also needs to be careful with how he "reacts" to getting hit. Thought he took a stick to the eye like Hank or had a bad injury. Don't need a reputation after people were questioning him after Carter ran into him.
That's what he does. I think because he's somewhat injury prone this is his way of trying to limit the abuse he takes. I'd rather he subtly whack an ankle.

I think people are way too nostalgic when it comes to Clement. Thorne carried him. Clement was a giant buffoon who mispronounced names all the time, & his analysis ability was barely above a talking monkey. Plus he was a giant f***ing flyers homer.
And Thorne made more mistakes in one period than Sam makes in a season.

I lost all like for Clement when he used to slobber all over the Avvvvvvvsss, and made it sound like their fourth liners were potential Hall Of Famers. That guy got Dan Hinote and Greg DeVries (Rangers) ridiculous contracts because of his non-stop drooling.

Rangers played their best game of the playoffs and seem like they are getting better with every game.

The Kid Line was terrorizing the Bolts, nice to get some revenge for the Triplets killing us in 2015.

K'Andre Miller was Hedman-esque tonight. Human eraser defensively and so smooth moving the puck. I think theres a Norris in his future. Dont care if thats a hot take

The stars continue to show up huge in big moments and Igor was locked in from the start again.

Tampa was obviously rusty, but that really isnt an excuse, the Rangers ran them out of the building. They do not look nearly as threatening without Point and that vaunted 3rd line from last year. McDonagh was terrible for them, he was way out of position on the first goal and we roughed him up a few times. He was my favorite Ranger when he was here but he will be remembered as a Lightning and i want some revenge.

The Lightning will come out flying Friday and Vasi isnt going to give up 6 again, but our boys know how to use the crowd and protect home ice. Going up 2-0 really put some doubt in them if Point is unlikely to be back

Eh, yeah, I don't really care about Clement, other than, he was paired with Thorne.

Who is the f***ing GOAT.

I don't care about his mistakes. I have eyes, I'm watching the game. Technical proficiency is a distant second in importance to HYPE ABILITY.

And there has not been a hockey announcer better at exciting calls in my lifetime. Maybe not any announcer in any sport.

Goodrow with a classic statement in crosschecking Hagel . Total head job... physic the kid out .. with no Brayden Point they need skill upfront and thats why they got him. Barclay knows that and since we were up big.. he took a nice jab at Hagels lower back........... which caused the mini-brawl...playoff messages are why we got Goodrow

Obviously things can change very fast and we could be out in 5 (please god no) but I've always thought the Rangers matched up pretty well with Tampa and we play a pretty similar game in my opinion.

The thing that has separated Tampa these past few seasons and won them their cups was Vasilevskiy. They had the star forwards, the sold d corps, the deep forward lines that contribute big goals but the thing that was their trump card was Vasy. When they weren't at their best or got sloppy or backs against the walls, they had the superior goalie every single time. Igor at the very least levels that playing field and takes away what has been their most important and impactful advantage of their opponents during their current run.

You do realize that Perry has won a Cup, right?

If the Rangers - for whatever reason - don’t keep Chytil, I’d still root for him in a very big way. He has grown up right before our eyes and his jubilation is so much fun to watch. I’m truly happy for him. It has been five years in the making and he has busted out so impressively.
I thought our biggest need was 2C? of course we are keeping him...my offer 6yrs@4

need to keep it up tomorrow

some of us still recall the 1979 Cup Final,
began with a game 1 win over a dynasty team,
and an early 2-goal lead in game 2
... but then it all turned in an eye-blink
True, but if you believe Esposito (and on this one , I do) Many of the Rangers when out after the game 1 in Montreal to party.
Lost 4 straight.
I believe this current group is grounded. No early celebrations.
They don’t appear to get to high after wins or too down after not winning.

You think of the leadership group of this current team, and besides Strome, none of them are really rah-rah guys. They're very grounded.

Kreider Trouba and Zibby aren't usually hamming it up for the crowd or begging for attention, they're playing for each other. You can tell some of the friendships on the team.

I also have a theory that Chytil's first goal last night was a consequence of the popularity of the michigan move.

Kakko is dangling around behind the net, which draws the direct attention of not one, but two Tampa players.

They're looking at Kakko, he slithers it to Chytil who has been left entirely alone.
I also give Chytil a ton of credit for having a feel for the ice and slithering away into position. Something Kakko needs to do.

I think it's because Hagel blindsided him earlier with a hit near the boards. It was a message sending "don't f*** with me"

I think Cooper is a real good coach who knows how to adjust. He's going to have them ready to fix their mistakes and tighten things down. What the Rangers can improve on in a hurry is the coverage in front of their own net. Shesterkin bailed them out last night but they left a lot of dangerous lightning players open in front of the net. Whether it's just getting used to playing a team with a different style, or Tampa confusing them, it's something the Rangers have to fix

I also don't think Vasilevsky is going to be that bad for the rest of the series or anything. Lightning are gonna tighten things up, he's going to tighten it up, Rangers are going to have to tighten up as well

Also, didn't really think Miller had a good game, he was being way too aggressive with some pinches and rushing the puck and stepping up. Made more mistakes than he has been

We really have to clean up our zone exits. It was really sloppy. Led to their 1st goal. Lucky that's all it was.
Agree. I'd say this is our biggest weakness as a team. Next season plugging Jones in full time will help. Miller is the only D that has the legs and mindset to be able to carry it out. Jones' strength is transition.

I believe we can overcome this weakness in these playoffs and address it over the summer.

Could have sworn on the broadcast they said he’s out for the series.

Holy f*** yeah the Panthers board is a great read. The tone change from the afternoon to about 8:19 pm EST is f***ing delicious

could have sworn I heard them say, 'Cooper told them he was out for this series'

who knows... Blais has been skating for weeks now it feels like. It doesn't mean much until you move close to 100% and take contact
