I am one of the biggest supporters of Lias around and thought he actually played very well in his limited minutes. He was very noticable when he was on the ice and looked like he belonged. The reason why Howden gets the trust of the coaching staff was very evident last night, he is much better on faceoffs then Lias is at this point.

It was also very evident when he lost the faceoff against Wheeler then played matador and let him right in to score. I'm all for being patient with the kids so I'm not worried about Quinn eventually getting Andersson more time.

Here's what I don't get...regarding last night...why are so many people fixated on howden vs lias...when the real story should be howden AND lias vs strome.

Strome was putrid last night and a big giant gaping black hole of suck hurting his wingers.

Would howden or lias be any worse playing those minutes? I have my doubts.
I agree. I liked what I saw from Strome pre-season but he was terribad last night.

What I don't get is why we are fixated on anything when we just played game 1 of an 82 game schedule. I get that coaches have tendencies but until something becomes actually becomes a pattern or problem... :dunno:

I was flipping back and forth between the Rangers and Braves game last night but someone said Andersson blew his coverage on a goal. I don't recall seeing that but can anyone confirm?

It looked that way but both Ranger defensemen got caught on the same side of the net which left Wheeler wide open in front. Andersson was attempting to get there which made him look guilty but that wasn't his guy

He could've been a step or two closer to Scheifele maybe on the 1st goal, but from where he was on the ice, it looked like he made the right decision to try to poke the pass away before it got there. He was also 51 seconds into his shift at that point (idk if that really matters much though)

Agreed. Strome was terrible.

Strome was hot garbage yesterday.

Lias should be the 2C. Strome isn't good enough to deprive him of the opportunity. Let's see if Lias and Kaapo can develop some chemistry.

Sure it's debatable..I'm debating it. I'll say it again...Mika was playing against a defense that kinda sucked, and against a goalie that kinda sucked.

Trouba was playing against an offense that was pretty damn awesome.

Both guys produced.

I think trouba was the best player on the ice tonight....and it's not really debatable.

Which I guess makes it debatable :)
He's a one man jungle in front of the net too. I was very impressed. I hope he can bring that fire every night. I mean, when was the last time the Rangers had such a complete package defender? I can't think of anyone, really.
Malakhov was supposed to be that kind of player but it never came together. I can't think of anyone else.

I will say this. I am a Quinn backer, but I do question (albeit for one game) what is going on with Andersson. He deserved more than he got and certainly did nothing to show why he was essentially benched for virtually the entire third period.

Our last Captain was OK..

It's true that it's one game and nothing worth condemning as a trend. I'm disappointed that Lias's preseason and what he did game one didn't catch with Quinn, and I won't be happy to see it continue.

That said I am also way more confident in Lias this year to prove himself despite his usage and earn more ice time as we go along. I was happy to see him play well, believe he can continue to do so, and will hope that it results in better opportunities.

the lack of playing time for the 4th line remains and issue regardless of whether its lias or howden...they both need playing time whether its in ny or hartford.

Have a feeling the lines will be more balanced this game coming up. Think that while we're developing, winning last night's game is still a big deal and Quinn went to 3 lines.

If it doesn't change after this weird scheduling is done, then Lias would be better served in Hartford with Chytil and Kravtsov. Can't play that little and develop.

2m 40 seconds of ice time in the first period,,,,,,
Did He get hurt ?

Howden getting fed minutes and gets killed. Please balance this out. Andersson has been good through two games.
