Lias Lovers have officially been in denial for longer than Lettieri has been in the Quinn Bin. Hold on tightly to your dreams of Lias panning out to be a middle 6 guy in our system. No way does that happen unless we move half our roster. Way too vanilla. Let's think logically here. With guys like JT, Kreider, Hayes, Nieves, hell even Lettieri, you can identify early on, as rookies, the talent that has gotten them to the NHL. It's unrefined, but it's identifiable. I'm still scratching my head trying to find any standout raw talent on Lias. His current game is that of a career AHLer IMO.
I'm no Lias cheerleader but the hilarious thing about your post is that like all of your examples played in college or juniors while Andersson is being rushed to AHL and NHL. Half of the guys you mentioned turned pro at 22 yo.

Pray tell what discernible talent are you pointing to with Nieves and Letteiri?

You ARE aware that virtually if not all of them, did not play in the NHL at 20? Never mind having that year be the first in a new country.

I'm not worried about Lias.. I think he'll be a middle 6 player for a long time in the NHL
Yeah I actually think he’s making decent progress. He doesn’t blow you away in any sense but that’s not who he is. I think he has good hockey IQ and compete level and looks better and more engaged than he did a couple weeks ago and then he looked better than a couple weeks before that.

I really don’t get the overwhelmingly negative attitude about him.

Whether or not you’re right, this post makes you sound like the Mouth.

Just letting you know.

His play away from the puck, he puts himself in good spots, his play in his own zone is very good for a payer as young as he is. He is a smart hockey player, combined with the motor he has will push him to the next level.
Reasonable.

Looks like I hurt some feelings here. If layering on the personal attacks helps you all sleep at night RE: Lias' future in the NHL, by all means do so. Or we can talk about Lias...

A similar player I thought of is Colin White who was touted as a character 2 way C and also kind of had skating issues. Drafted 21st in the deep draft of 2015 although he would go much higher, possibly around 10 in 2017

He had a good D+1 his first year in the NCAA but a somewhat disappointing year following it. Sens signed him at the end of the season and he had 0 points in 2 games in the NHL and 3 in 3 AHL games, not bad. But the following year, his D+3 (last year), he had 6 points in 21 games in the NHL and 27 in 47 the AHL, not good. Has 36 points in 65 games on a bad Sens team and his skating has improved a ton

to me he is a big disappointment so far, I expected more out of 7th overall pick who was supposed to be one of the most NHL ready prospects of that draft.

I’ll just repeat what I have said in the past. Andersson’s entire game is based on him using his hockey IQ and high end motor to win pucks and put hinself in soft areas to score. If you watch him closely he sees the spots he needs to be in and his battle level is very high but physically he just isn’t there yet. He’s losing board battles that he used to win regularly at other levels he’s played at. If he didn’t have a proven track record of developing, improving and eventually being a valuable contributor at every level I could better understand some of the things being said.

His skating and strength need to improve. Those are things he will improve upon, they just take some time. He’s 20 years old.

The high end motor argument is really weird to me. .. .I never really see that in his game. Not the speed. .. the motor.

Half his shifts he's gliding out there...the reason I never notice him do a ton is because he's not .moving his feet....that's the strangest thing about his game...the 2 aspects people used to point to his strengths....effort and strength\board play are inferior. He's not a good board player and is constantly out muscled out there. I'd also call him very floaty out there as well.

There's plenty of times he's the 3rd man high but it usually seems to be because he's not moving his feet to get into the play.

There's a few shifts I've seen where he's kept his feet moving the whole time...and all of those shifts have stood out as being good ones.

Lias' also needs to work on his endurance as well...it sure seems like his shift length is way shorter than the rest of the team...

Nothing you just said has been shown at the nhl level.

Good spots? I can count on one hand how many offensive chances he’s had or created this season. He can’t get to good spots.

He’s been awful defensively so I’m not sure where the play away from the puck is a plus.

His motor is non existent. There is no motor. He’s nowhere to be found.

Is he a smart player? Maybe he was in Europe but we haven’t seen anything here to say that.

Only thing you’re right on and he has going for him is he’s young. But he’s not that young. He’ll be 21 in October. For a top 10 pick at that age he needs to start showing something. Will he? He’s got a long Long summer ahead of him to improve literally everything about his game.
