I think big issue is why so many of our top prospects are struggling to score, not just Lias. Kravtsov goes to AHL gets demoted/scratched, goes back to Russia, struggles there as well. What is going on. Why is this happening to so many players? How does Kovacs score only 2 goals in 72 AHL games? How does Stromwall score only 2 goals in 44 AHL games? How does Meskanen get 0 goals in 20 AHL games? Our 2 big free agent prospect signings Newell has just 3 goals in 30 games and Elmer is not even on the team anymore after just 1 game.

In what world are Kovacs, Stromwall, Meskanen, Newell or Elmer top prospects in this organization?

This is a terribly inaccurate soundbite.

so he worked hard for 2 preseason games and thought he had earned a spot and threw a temper tantrum when he didn't get one? i

I’m failing to see where he threw a temper tantrum.

Lias knows Quinn prefers Howden over him. He’s not taking Zbad and Chytils spot. He found out his team tried to trade him.

The one thing Lias did that really irks me is leaving his team. I’m not upset he requested a trade, but I hate that he left his team. I don’t see that as a temper tantrum though.

Agree, but not last year - rather two years ago.
True. I think the script would be different if this was his first year in North America. Unfortunately, when you are selling season tickets during a rebuild, prospects get rushed and paraded around to sell the vision.

The NHL may be the most conservative, tight-knit world in professional sports.

Lias Andersson's NHL career is so far f***ed.

I'm sure he knows he's just not good enough for this level, makes for an easier out by pointing the finger elsewhere.

Even making assumptions on the unknowns and taking the player's side it's an interesting story about the "character" thing. They're all 18 when those designations get handed out! And I know just from myself being an idiot sometimes that people are different when their backs are against the wall.

I was not trying to say they are top prospects, just noticed a trend and providing examples. Kovacs though was once a very promising prospect for our depleted prospect pool.

There is no trend. Most prospects dont pan out. Especially those that were UDFAs. Kovacs was a 3rd round pick that quickly showed he couldn't adjust to the North American game.

Uncle Larry crushing Lias in his latest column

He suggest a potential Tolvanen for Lias swap

Kovacs kinda nuked his potential NHL career with the legal trouble

The rest of the guys you mentioned were lottery ticket FA signings. Not all of them work out. No other team has made an attempt to sign these prospects like Stromwall, Lindqvist and Meskanen, so that should probably tell you something

If what Larry Brooks is saying is true then Lias has issues. Did Lias get a wind of Kravstsov returning and just gave out of fear that Kravstsov will look better and faster? I don't mind Lias for Tolvanen or Kostin or Vesalainen or Jason Robertson or Vilardi or Tippett. I am surprised that with so many Swedes on the Rangers he went out and did this, very strange.

Uncle Larry is spot on in his article. I hope one positive to come of this is the Rangers will think twice next time before making nebulous things like "leadership" a major factor in their draft strategy.

The players, not your post lol

There is another possibility Lias gets over his tantrum and gets good advice and returns to the team with a positive attitude. And thus raising his trade value and a possibility of playing his way back onto the Rangers. My guess is he requested a trade almost as soon as he got sent down, maybe even before that and maybe he got tired of waiting and that could explain his poor performance in Hartford?

Brooksie in his article which is pretty much right on point brings up some "glorious" 1st round picks of ours in the past 20 years such as in 1999 at #4 Pavel Brendl and at #9 Jamie Lundmark(how do we f*** up not just one but two top 10 picks? Oh yeah...Sather was running the show than...lol)....2003..Hugh Jessman at #12...2004...Al Montoya at #6 and of course in 2010 with the 10th overall Dylan McIlrath.

I'm trying to decide which was the worst one of all of them and I can't help but think it was Brendl. I remember vividly us picking him and most of the fanbase at the time was stoked as Brendl was supposed to be a Peter Nedved type but even a better sniper. Boy were we wrong. Never played a minute for us and his career went the way of Nail Yakapov...even worse.

Funny thing is, Brendl is still only 38...what a waste of god given talent he was. Quite possibly the worst 1st round pick in Ranger history.

Jim Matheson (who is the worst) has said multiple times that Edmonton doesn’t think Lias can play at an NHL pace, which is why they were asking for a + in addition to Lias

would love to know why Nashville does that
Maybe they want to do us a favor?

I'd do that in NY minute but don't think the Preds would.

We really are in a tough spot here with Lias pulling this shit. We'd be trading him at his absolute lowest value which wasn't' that high to begin with.

I dunno man, whoever has been giving Lias advice should be fired pronto as this crap he pulled sure the hell isn't going to help him get a new gig any time soon in the "good boy network" that is the NHL.

What a shit show this is now...uggggg

I wonder if Lias wanted to go back to Sweden and the organization wouldnt let him? It's really strange that he went home, I mean most ask for a trade and keep playing.

Brendl looked legit his stats were insane 73 goals and 134 points in 68 games and 46 points and 21 goals in 20 playoff games. He was going to be taken top 4 or 5 that draft for sure. Rangers traded him away just 2 years after drafting him for Lindros who was only 28 at the time. Brendl only played 2 playoff games for the Wolfpack.
