Don't trade the guy. Allowing a bum like this to dictate anything is a bad move.
What do you feel is the best move at this point?Don't trade the guy. Allowing a bum like this to dictate anything is a bad move.
Have to correct you here, Jesse wanted to come over and did. The Oilers wanted him to stay but be able to put him in the AHL if needed. The value of a third round pick is just so low that unless they can get the equivalent value of a 2nd rounder for Lias it might just be a smarter option to let him return to Europe and play like the Oilers did with Pulju.
I think there is a kakko effect.
Lias and kravtsov were golden boys or told they were and suddenly kakkos the golden child and the front office is less hands on. And your getting sent down while kakko is fast-tracked and has been allowed to play even though he ain’t ready ever, and these guys felt passed over.
And maybe the rangers fundamental flaw being drawn to kids who have parents who are wealthy, overly involved and, the kids situation hints at having been given everything and had everything come easy to them, which might make it easier and more likely to tuck tail and head home when they realize at a certain point no one can hold your hand and you gotta sink or swim yourself
Might be the most important question the rangers don’t ask. How easy has it been for this kid to get here? Was he guided and handled through it? Or has the kid been on his own playing juniors/whatever and making his own way for awhile.
Rangers seem to draft a bunch of kids coming straight from mom and dads house, while a lot of Junior kids have been living with billet families and had to make that adjustment already. Or being on their own and having to learn to rely on themselves and not dropping everything to seek comfort when things are uncomfortable
Suspend him and let him rot. What do you feel is the best move at this point?
And here’s the thing - we now have Brett Howden getting starts at RW in an effort to keep him in a top 9 role.
Say what you will about Andersson, we didn’t really even try to get creative with him. We never went back to line mates he showed chemistry with. We admitted that ice time and linemates could help, and we didn’t do anything.
Again, I’m not condoning Andersson’s approach, but who is he dislodging from the lineup?
Zibanejad? Big no there.
Chytil? No.
Strome? Not likely.
Howden? No.
I mean let’s be honest for a second, forgetting this is hockey, I am willing to bet that no less than half this board would be looking for a new job or phoning it in if they were in a similar position in their own places of employment.
I’m sure that will be met with some pushback, because we’re all the virtuous heroes of our own self-directed movies, but its probably closer to the truth than we’d care to admit.
The difference is, the people above me on my Corporate “depth chart” aren’t going to get traded or injured. My VP has much better odds of being in his role next Fall than David Quinn (not saying DQ is nessecarily likely at all but my VP is ~100%).
Things chance fast in the NHL. Lias would have gotten an opportunity at some point. Pouting and running away (in year TWO of an ELC) reeks of entitlement.
We could have done better by him. But seriously, asking for a trade when you can’t even make an NHL roster? That’s some sense of entitlement right there. And might explain why he’s not in the NHL. Does he think he is better than he is? We also dealt with this with Kravtsov - it took getting sent to the KHL minors to get his head right.
The second issue is the “mystery” why Andersson didn’t get a chance in Howden’s role. Personally I think Andersson should have done more to earn the promotion but even if you think there was merit. Based on some past events and with this latest development, I’m hypothesize that Lias might have gotten this chance but he started to pout when he didn’t get it right away. Let’s remember that he was visibly not good when he was demoted to Hartford last season. It was surprising that he actually had decent games when he got called back. He also played admittedly well in a couple of preseason games but after he didn’t get his chance to overtake Howden - his game completely fell off anything remotely acceptable, even as a 4th liner. Got sent down again and I don’t buy it that he’s not talented enough to play a lot better in the AHL. My point is the Rangers didn’t give Andersson a chance because they noted a change in attitude after the first few games into the regular season. I recall shortly after that Quinn made a comment that implied Andersson wasn’t going something right in practice.

Maybe he just revealed the mystery, maybe the kid is a shih ted, maybe he is an entitled pain in the ass and maybe he is just a quitter? Maybe
Eh, he's pretty terrible so far.Maybe Mittelstadt was the chad all along.
I think the issue most of us have with Lias is not his desire to be moved – but how, and when, he’s gone about it. Not only does it give off a very bad impression regarding his attitude, it puts him the team in an awful position, and oh by the way, makes it damn near impossible to meet his request in the near term.
If this had all happened behind the scenes, he had continued to work hard, communicated his unhappiness through his agent – and then if nothing had been resolved by season’s end, had come out and asked for trade, I think people would have a lot less of a problem with the situation.
The goal here should be to make the best of the situation for the organization, not just to be punitive in the name of "sending a message" or something. I mean if there's a decent deal to be made and we pass it up because "f*** this kid", that's just negligent.Suspend him and let him rot.
I mean, really, let him go to Europe. And then qualify him once his ELC is up.
While I was really upset with what Kravtsov showed when he chose to exercise his ELC, I never thought it made him a shitty person. Same here--I don't think it's appropriate to draw conclusions about the player as a person. Maybe that he's immature, rash, etc. But a shitty person? That seems like a huge leap.Wow. Just hows how ****ty of a person he is.
