Given they got Tony, sure. But at the time, Lias was the prize of the deal. I wish we could have made another deal just for Tony and retained Stepan, but I understand the cap implications at the time and have the benefit of hind sight. Regardless, I wish we were in the timeline where we moved Girardi sooner or Staal to clear that space and had captain Step over McDonagh. Step is a cerebral player, it would have been nice to have retained him.

Stepan?

He has 12 points on the year. Fast and Lemieux are averaging more points per game than DStep right now.

Hell, he was horrible last year too. 35 points in 72 games.

I was a big Stepan fan, but moving him was absolutely the right move. His production has fallen off the cliff these last couple of seasons.

This is Lias’s 3rd stint in Hartford. It’s also gone public that we tried to move him. He outplayed Howden yet still didn’t make the team out of camp. When Howden played like crap, Lias was never given a look in the top-9.

Lias is doing what he thinks is best for his career. It sucks, but it is what it is.

Not saying it's right or wrong or good or bad but it's ****ing comical to see everyone yelling at Lias when weeks ago, he was a favorite son of many.
I never liked him. He was absolute trash while he was up here and then somehow got worse when he was sent down.

It's whatever. It's not like it effects the rebuild. Kid was going to top out as a 3C at best.

Did Lias have poor off-season work habits? JD saying he "completely changed his whole body" in September kind of implies that. Of course that might just have been puffery. If it wasn't, if Lias really didn't put in the work until his third summer after being drafted, that's inexcusable and I could see a coach being disdainful.

I think it’s fair to guess Quinn has a bit of a NA bias

His comments about Howden having a longer leash kinda cements this

Ehhh I had hopes he can be a 200 foot player that was a pain in the ass to play against. A 3C like you mentioned, but a good one at that.

I dislike “safe” picks. Go Boom or Bust. The options after the first 5 or 6 picks weren’t great but there were guys with higher ceilings available.

I wonder what Vancouver wanted for the 5th pick. I know Gorton tried to get that but I recall hearing the asking price was too high.

Tripping over himself on Opening Night introductions was a bad omen.

Lias has literally and figuratively tripped over himself from Day 1.

For everyone they had questioned all the rave ‘character’ reviews, I’m 100% with you. I do not see a semblance of it whatsoever.

Good riddance, and hope you find great success with family and friends back home in Smalltown SWE in 2 years. Nothing wrong with that - but between the medal toss and now demanding a trade, you are a poser and need to get a clue about your abilities.

No, Lias got shredded over the summer. He worked out really hard this offseason

Was Vancouver talking to Gorton? I don’t think that’s true

They were talking to Dallas for #3 for sure. Vancouver and Benning was terrified that Gorton was going to jump them to take Petersson

Lias’s skating was mediocre his first two seasons. In training camp and preseason, he added another gear. It was very evident.

It kind if disappeared as the season went along, probably due to lack of confidence.

Personally, I think he lost some of the swagger he had had it affected his game completely.

We're having a fantasy conversation so it's a bit silly but it's not crazy to think he'd have done better here. But then again he could have done worse, its moot to discuss but I saw a player in him that wanted to win here and may have gone the lengths to do so, but he was sent out and became what Arizona made of him. It is what it is, he has fans here that wanted to see more for him in our uniform.

I'm not sure if it's a NA bias but certainly a bias or predisposition towards players who look like they are giving a ton of effort. Which makes this situation with Andersson so strange considering his pedigree,

The thing with Lias is it's like he's plateaued two years ago. It's not good that he's struggling so much even in Hartford. Sometimes players lose confidence---sometimes they have expectations for themselves and when things don't go that well for them they start to lose hope and the way things are with the Rangers right now Lias might not even see an opening. At training camp he seemed to be a bit quicker but as the season has progressed he hasn't. He's a big minus with the Rangers--a big minus with the Wolfpack--very often he's not even getting shots. There's a lot about him right now that screams for a new beginning somewhere else. It's quite likely though we'll get the best return if we package him but that might mean waiting for the deadline.
I'm starting to think the Hartford struggles are more attitude related than actual talent.

That's exactly why I referred to him as petulant.

Yes, he was treated unfairly. Welcome to the NHL where every coach is homo habilis.

You also sucked, kid. And can't skate.
Entitled is the word I was thinking of...and I don't think he was treated unfairly....but I'm a minority of one it seems.
