Why are so many people acting as if this is news? DQ said from day 1 this was the style he thought was most effective and what he wanted to employ. The NHL is predominantly a north-south game.

So, all of a sudden DQ is the bad guy because he tried to get E-W players to adapt to N-S stay to be successful and when they don't get it, he's screwing up their development. That's a good one.
While I agree with you, I'm souring on Quinn because he's not getting the job done. Maybe the E-W style caught a few teams by surprise early on, but N-S hasn't caught on and the E-W is getting worse.

Rangers did not do a good job handling his development but I've pretty much lose any respect I had for him with this request.

He's not lighting up Hartford by any means. All we heard when he was drafted was character this, character that. And now his season isn't going great, and he wants out?

Get lost
Yeah. Kind of this... he was given nhl minutes early and pretty often. He did squat and then takes his ball and goes home? I mean, I guess they could have played him on a better line but, really? It’s a two way street. Maybe there’s more to it. But this sounds like another entitled wimp.

Why assume Andersson asked to leave the team? I think it's much more likely that the team told him to leave. The writing was on the wall, but this ended badly for all involved. Including the fans.
I think it's way less likely they asked him to leave. Guys ask for trades all the time and they're not asked to leave. A lot of the time we don't even know they asked for a trade until after the fact.

That he's away from the team for whatever reason, has made a bad situation worse. And it reduces our leverage in a trade because other teams can see how bad the situation is.

The only way I see us telling him to stay away is if he was creating problems. I haven't heard anything to that extent. There's no reason to believe it was the case.

So I really doubt they told him to stay away. We gain nothing by doing that.

So, no Puljujarvi for Andersson as per Friedman.

Going to be interesting if they are going to try and net another pick or if this will be a propect for prospect trade. If there is another Lemiuex type out there, they should be the target. Even if they are older. They mentioned wanting a more north-south type player in return.

We talked a lot about Josh Anderson. I wonder if he'll be available and Andersson could be part of a package to get him. He is hurt, but he would provide some of that size and physicality that they are looking for. JD knows the team well and would know if Columbus had Lias on their radar when they drafted in 2017.

Let's not even mention that Columbus has a HUGE need in nets. Korpisalo and Merzlikins do not seem like answers. Shesty is gonna come up soon. Georgiev+Andersson to Columbus for Josh Anderson+? Would hate to have Geo in division, but while there is no rush, there is an opportunity to get a 25 year old winger that has pedigree of scoring (been roughly a 20 goal guy since making the NHL full time) and an add, maybe a draft pick or another prospect, in return.

Mcillrath says hello.

They also went off the board with Kratsov, who this coach also had now use for....

Clark and Quinn should be handed their walking papers.

Kravstov isn’t ready for the NHL, it’s not a Quinn issue. He got sent down in the KHL too.

One of the first things JD said upon arrival is that he's not one to come in and blow things up so Gorton is getting time and space to do his thing.

JG brought in Drury and a coaching staff that are both completely clueless.

Drury put together the Hartford crew and now 2 top 10 picks both want out within a few months.

JG is also responsible for this scouting staff.

I think the clocks ticking on good ole Jeffrey

The Hartford crew Drury put together brought them from a garbage team to the top of their league.

Yes, this is very true. I've been feeling this since last season. Pretty big gaffe for management to hire a US collegiate coach who struggles with European prospects when all we've brought to the team in the last 2 years are European prospects. I'd give Rikard Gronberg a go after Quinn is done this season.

Quinn plays plenty of European players a lot, including kids. Chytil has been 2C almost every game since coming back up. He also gushes about Panarin every chance he gets.

I think it hasn't caught on because DQ doesn't have the personnel to play that style.

Stop taking what I’m saying out of context. No one is saying he’s a bad guy lol

If I really want to make it an argument against Quinn, I’d say he values guys “trying hard” way too much. There’s literally no reason Howden should be playing in the NHL based on his metrics and how he’s looked, and yet evidently he tries hard so he gets a longer leash and stays up with the team.

My observation was Quinn MAY have a NA bias. He was a college coach for however many years that predominantly coached NA players.

Every coach in the league has biases
While I replied to one section of your post, it is not out of context. Everything I stated holds true for each of our comments, the result of which was to say DQ prefers NA players. Again, old news,

No one expects you to put up first line numbers as a third liner. But they do want to see your potential to put up first-line numbers if surrounded by first-line talent. LA did neither.

OK -- I must have been on a business trip to Alpha Centauri when the real reports on him came out because I don't recall reading anywhere that he was a Top 6 talent....nor to I recall him being called a scoring dynamo (i supposed those two traits were automatically tagged when he was selected). I admit, I could be wrong and will gladly admit it if someone can point me in the right direction.

Overall, Lias always reminded me of Buchnevich Light.

We should see if we could get Jankowski out of Calgary. He could use a change of scenery and would be a Quinn type of guy.

This is really on Lias. After being sent down, he was gifted a top line center spot. And really did not make the kind of impact on a shift by shift basis one would want or expect from someone who is supposedly a bubble NHL player. It actually impacted the Wolf Pack negatively for many games.

I get being disappointed. I also get being out of game shape a bit because he was under used for much of his time in the NHL. But he really was not noticeable enough in the A. And now he's requesting a trade. I'm trying not to be angry. I'm trying to convince myself there are things we just don't know. And all of that is likely accurate. But Lias needs to focus on getting better if he wants to be an NHL player, period. There is literally no one in the Rangers org that wants to see the kid fail. His failure only hurts everyone.

His impatience is somewhat understandable if we understand his journey the last few years. But as unfair as he thinks he's been treated by NY. He's being even more unfair. The view of Lias being a bit too slow for the NHL is not just a Rangers view. It's likely a prevailing view of scouts at this point.

DQ’s responsibility is to try and get the most out of the line-up his GM creates. I like a N/S style, but you can’t try and force a square peg in a round hole.

DQ needs to learn how to adapt his style with the players he has in the system. You can’t be one dimensional.

He’s not a bad guy at all. I very much like DQ but I feel his inexperience at times is detrimental for the club.

Continue to have conflicted feelings about it. I think Quinn screwed up with Howden and Andersson. When they both were struggling he could have given Andersson a shot with better linemates. It wouldn't have hurt anything at all. I think his giving Howden such a long leash was too obvious some favoritism at play and created some bad feelings with Andersson there. At that point maybe he already didn't think Lias had what it takes. Maybe he's right and maybe it's more on the people who drafted him than the coach who didn't think he was NHL material. I dunno for sure but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

That all said, Andersson also realllly never took the step I wanted him to take either. He seemed like he came to camp better and ready to compete but not to take the next step after making the team out of camp. Maybe he doesn't have the skill, maybe he was being coached something different, but he didn't seem to try to really make any plays at all, just didn't use his skills at all, seemed like he wanted to battle but even though he's not small, he's also not big enough to make a living trying to win physical battles. He constantly looked like a guy who didn't look like he knew how to make progress at the NHL level.
I really want/wanted to be in his corner but he's gotta find a way to be a difference maker on the ice. Not necessarily a 1st line difference maker but even 3rd line support guys make a difference by bringing this or that to the lineup...smarts, puck moving, physicality, a good shot, who knows. Not just a guy content to take a shift, skate around after the puck, and then head to the bench after at most dumping the puck down the boards.
While Chytil has more natural skills I think he also has done a great job learning how to use them and apply them at the NHL level. HIs ability to skate and transition the puck and make plays with the puck has improved tremendously. He's a fantastic transition player and gains the offensive zone with easeand has greatly improved in his puck control but also is doing a good job knowing not to do toooo much either. He's shown great progress. Andersson never took the things he's supposed to be good at and improved them or applied them to the NHL.

I kind of hate to admit it but it's looking like just a bad pick. Maybe bad management bringing him over early instead of leaving him in Sweden, even if he wanted to come over. We'll see if he can reset and just work on applying his skills somewhere else.

Thank god for Chytil

I think DQ's problem is far far far more the coaching of his defense and their scheme than the offense and playing north/south vs east/west

I dunno if it's all blame it on Ruff or how much input Quinn has but the defensive approach is just terrible. It's a passive system that also seems to confuse the players and multiple times per game you see players confused about who is supposed to be covering who and the gap control in general is atrocious. There are some issues with how well forwards cover for pinching D and how aware pinching D are with putting their teammates in trouble, but a huge issue is just the system they try to play defensively and it's killing them almost every game
