Brett Howden's still in the NHL.

We can debate Lias' play at a lot of points and he certainly needed to be better. But not once was he given a legitimate chance. Brendan Smith made it off line 4 this season and he couldn't. Brendan Smith!

Quinn didn’t handle this well. For a guy who is supposed to be here to develop our players I’m not seeing much from Howden and Andersson, as you said, never even got a look, even when he seemed to have “earned it” in preseason. A lot of people are quick to credit Quinn for his tough love approach with ADA and Buch, but I’m not sure he has that much to do with their development (and Buch is stagnating again). Chytil developed in Hartford, came up hot and now has gotten quiet. Expected for a young player, but still I’m not really seeing it with Quinn. This will end up being a loss for the team. His value is as low as it could be for a recent #7 so the return will be disappointing and the pick was so recent that it will sting. As for Andersson himself, I won’t be surprised to see him look exactly the same with a change of scenery, but I also won’t be surprised if he is given an opportunity and runs with it.

Lol, I don’t know how you interpreted my statement but it wasn’t meant to say that they planted the wire there for Lias to trip on. He tripped on it all by himself. Everyone else was fine.
I see. I interpreted it the way you guessed.

LOL. No one liked the Andersson pick

This board was a mess that whole week, between people actually thinking we were getting Keller for Step, and then reaching for Lias, and then a big WTF is Chytil, and then signing Shattenkirk when we should have instead been firing AV and trading away McDonagh, Nash, etc.

If we’re realistic the JP for LA trade possibility has sailed, it’s no longer about a small add from the Rangers. Continuing to go down headache for headache trade maybe it could be Ho-Sang but we don’t trade with the Isles so that’s very unlikely. Baertschi asked to be traded too...

At this point it might be a win if the Rangers got their 2nd round pick from the Canes for him.

Zeroing in on Bracco from Long Island. Thinking of becoming the equivalent of those Habs fans who get mad when they sign someone who isn’t French

He'd be a great pick up. He's friends with Fox. If he makes it, it will be good to have some added team chemistry.

Not replying to anyone specifically because it’s more than one poster but let’s with exaggeration on what Andersson actually did that in your mind to warrant a more prominent role or opportunity. He had TWO ok games in PRESEASON. That’s it. Everything else is us fans wanted to see more out of 7OA pick. We have absolutely no idea what he did behind the doors during practices.

What I think might happen is Lias sits until the Rangers work out a trade and he's a throw in in the deal. So if that trade doesn't happen until toward the end of February if we move Kreider somewhere for instance---so be it--he sits. I wouldn't rush this thing just for his sake though......but for a team trading for a rental also getting back a pretty good prospect is not a bad thing.

But there are also teams who might be more interested in him than others such as Vancouver or Calgary.

A fun watch now...

They even call us taking Andersson before we do.

Start at 51:00

Thanks Harbour Dog, actuallynwatched it.
Niklas Anderson......Kings scout. Makes me wonder if they had the opportunity, would they have chosen his son?

Problem was......we hadnt had a #1 pick in 5 years, so obviously we were "out of practice" doing such.
Got better with the 21 pick though. Lol.

The Rangers ruined his development. Rushed him out of the SHL, played yo-yo with him and kept sending him back and forth to Hartford, played him in situations he was never going to succeed in. The cherry on top was playing him between Smith and Haley, expecting him to do anything. Then, when the coaching staff preaches a certain thing, but players like McKegg, Gettinger and Smith are still getting more opportunities, it presents a problem.

Kid isn't without fault, but between the issue with Kravtsov earlier this season and now Lias, you can change the culture in Hartford, but that is all for nothing if the organization can't begin to properly develop their own young talent. Even Chytil is a victim of this.

So we have a "developmental" coach who flat out wouldn't give the kid a chance and a Hartford team that seems to specialise in getting kids to run away.

Something isn't right somewhere in this organisation. Do coaching staff communicate with young players at all?

I was hoping Lias would put it together eventually, and was pretty frustrated with his usage. He's supposed to be learning the NHL game and he gets given 5 minutes a night with Haley and Smith? Shit. I'd request a trade too.

Yes, he needed to show more... but the team (or at least Quinn) really handicapped him.

i rarely point fingers,
but if Quinn had split Howden's icetime w Lias over last 1-1/2 seasons,
neither NYR nor Howden would have been been worse off,
Lias would be better and content, and
we wouldn't be in this situation
But coaches always have their biases

Yeah, it’s not good.

A problem with this organization for a long time is that it just hasn’t been very in tune with modern hockey. EDM is another organization like that, we have Slats in common which explains a few things.

Nothing is ever black and white, it takes two to tango. For every ounce of blame that the organization deserves, at least much and probably more falls on the player.

But this is also what just is unacceptable. As an organization we must do a spotless job, because that is something we can control. Sure we will make bad picks, that is one thing. But butchering the development of the kids, often there seem to be zero communication, no plan.
