Sympathy and skepticism have a close relationship. We know very little about Lias's situation (less and less by the day it seems). Why even bother taking the conversation so far outside the boundaries of hockey? Whether or not Lias is battling something listed in the DSM5 or is just sensitive, immature or on the wrong end of bad advice, why make presumptions about him personally in any way? He could be 'in the wrong' entirely from a hockey perspective -- from his words about his career moving forward, I'm inclined to believe that -- and yet, to me, the barrage of personal assaults he's likely to endure because of it, makes me pity him more than resent him.

To each their own, but it's really weird and off-putting to read so much presumptive and unfounded crap about a kid none of us (except @Amazing Kreiderman, of course) will ever meet.

He's still a kid. Hugh Jessiman at least had the benefit of being born before the internet...

Here's my take on lias Andersson.

Outside of this preseason, I personally never saw more than a 3rd line player at best in him. This is just my take on him as a player. It felt like if he felt the absolute peak of his abilities, he'd be a guy like Steve rucchin. At absolute best a Steve rucchin, but odds are more like a Brian Boyle type 4th liner.

That's a terrible pick at 7. I hate low ceiling high floor guys particularly so high in the draft. I wanted brannstrom, or necas and wasn't happy at all with lias.

All the rest of this nonsense doesn't mean much to me. All that matters to me is that as a player, he's always looked blah.right now all he's doing is hurting his trade value, and that's his perogative. However I still blame the team for taking him in the first place.

Bless you.

I would just like to know who gave him a personal plane. You don't even do that for FIRST overall, let alone SEVENTH. Somebody needs to put Mika under the hot lights til he tells all.

I think so. Babcock has a history of being an ass. There is more than circumstantial evidence/history that Peters is a racist. Quinn has been coaching at the NHL level all of 18 months.

I THINK this is more of a case of Quinn just being a genuine hard ass and Andersson, despite the image he tried to put out there, being soft as baby ****.

That's the most logical explanation.

The only way anyone could possibly side with Andersson if it he has a legitimate mental health issue and/or injury, he went to the organization about it, and they said "f*** you, play better." I find this scenario very hard to believe at the moment.

I think that’s fine - then stopping talking about it and or alluding to it.

It’s like when people go on social media with a vague post about being done wrong, and then following up with “I can’t talk about it.”

Then don’t take the time to bring it up in the first place!
Hmmmmm...I feel like I've seen this before recently on here...

Ah...yes, there we go. Much better.

This is lost in translation. I don't even know if it means a plane, and if it did, Im sure he means the team charter.

Personally, until Andersson provides some evidence of a legitimate issue on his end, I don't give a shit what the story is. He can rot in Sweden for all I care considering how he bolted.

I think that anything Andersson-related has taken on a life of its own — from the moment he was picked to present day.

I mean on one hand I agree if he cannot disclose the incident he should just stop addressing it altogether because of the rumor mill and speculation, but on the other he is right that people are assuming this is about play time and the AHL which leads to accusations of being spoiled, baby, etc. I get why he would want to clear the air on it not being a hockey/career decision.

Eh, within reason.

One subject deals in what HAS happened. The other deals in what is being talked about POTENTIALLY happening.

The latter also doesn’t look for sympathy or promise so great reveal about why a course of action was taken in response to a personal wrong that resulted in someone going AWOL. It’s to give a heads up about an approach or strategy that is being pursued, and is followed up as appropriate or more information becomes available. Also keeping in mind that the info being shared on the latter doesn’t inherently originate with the person sharing it, so there’s a balancing act to be had there.

A more appropriate example would be if someone came on here and said, “I heard some juicy gossip about a player who got their hands into some pretty crazy situations, but I don’t want to talk about it....but oh yeah it’s crazy.....totally gonna blow your mind. But I can’t talk about it. But yeah, wow...amazing. You’re gonna flip....it’s huge. But I don’t wanna talk about it.”

I get where where you’re coming from, to an extent. But I don’t think people quite drift that far of course and some of the people on here try to at least give some idea as a heads up on things. We’ve literally seen things on here days, weeks and months before it breaks. In fact, we recently had Bob McKenzie finally catching up to what we’ve discussed for months - the Rangers preferring prospects to picks in deals.

I think the challenge is that people want a roadmap that outlines everything and organizes it into chapters and verses for them. And that’s a tall ask. But our board is consistently ahead of reported news - more than one is likely to find anywhere else.

If he wants to "clear the air" he failed miserable and actually has done even worse for himself than where he had been before the interview.

I think he wanted more time to rank up in Overwatch, or Fortnite, or whatever the hell is popular these days.

Probably best would to have him on loan in SHL and indefinitely retain his rights. If he improves his play, then he either comes back or we trade him at peak value. Otherwise, he is written off as a total bust. This is feeling similar to the Robin Kovacs scenario (obviously tons of differences though).

No PA involvement, no league involvement, no official stance from NYR after the Babcock/Peters/Montgomery revelations which means this isn't an organizational misconduct issue. It's a malcontent issue, it's a relationship issue between the organizational personnel and its player(s). Vitali also felt mistreated and not communicated to. Some personalities would bare with it and stick with it and suffer because of it and some personalities and can bare with it and overcome it. It's fine if Lias wants a fresh start. It's his life, his career, his decision. I'm not willing to give the organization a complete pass in this situation if they have in fact left prospects in uncomfortable situations. This is the first time in a while this has happened with malcontent top prospects voicing their displeasure and speaking with their local reporters about it and it's happened all in a short span. If it's a relationship issue between NYR and its prospect(s), the problem, without assigning fault, is on both the organization and the player. Gorton, Quinn, and the coaching staff in Hartford because neither prospects were happy after a short stint in Hartford. I don't think Lias who spent a lot of time in Hartford and Vitali would revolt just because they were demoted. I don't believe that's the case with Vitali. He had an out clause and used it because he didn't like whatever it was about being in that situation or the team itself. That's fine. Lias bolting because he was very uncomfortable, again, he's stressed that it isn't about not wanting to pay his dues. If I had to guess, this is a miscommunication, poor communication, lack of care in handling prospects and prospects not feeling secure and supported by their coaches in NHL/AHL and the NYR management and not having a communicative relationship with the entire organization/coaches. Questions and concerns with no one to ask etc. I wonder where in all of this is Chris Drury being the GM of the Pack and being the link.

I don't get all the hate dreger is getting for reporting that lias and his agent wanted to make it clear that he doesn't have a mental health issue...shouldn't that be viewed as a good thing to know that the kid is ok and its just a hockey issue? regardless of your thoughts on the hockey side of things, that should be viewed as good news.

I agree but his agent should probably just tell Dreger no comment there

Guy is basically leaving Lias out to dry. You pay your agent to not do things like that

With the follow up from Dreger earlier, it actually looks like Lias made his agent make the statement to Dreger in the first place.

I’m curious if his agent pushed back initially.

Yeah it’s a weird situation

Dreger probably should have included the part about Lias wanting to clarify. Would have saved some trouble for all
