I’d try to negotiate termination of his contract. I’m certainly not loaning him anywhere and picking up the tab. There isn’t an nhl gm that wants him. That much is certain. I want him out of my organization at this point. It’s one thing requesting a trade. It’s quite another showing up at a public event taking an interview dressed like Justin Bieber and bad mouthing the organization and complaining about all the horrible things done to you but not actually saying what they were other than not gifting you the 2nd line center ice spot after a couple decent preseason games.

This is where nyr and I will differ.

I am not terminating shit. I am keeping him suspended.

Let's even assume the Rangers dropped the ball, the people around Lias should be working to help him --- whether it's a mental issue, a physical issue, all of the above, or none of the above.

And as part of that help, I find it hard to believe they're advising him to keep making the situation more confusing and convoluted.

Let's go the opposite way and go with the approach that he didn't tell anyone, no one had any idea, and they are playing catch-up. The people around Lias should still be working to help him, because obviously something is deeply wrong --- whether it's mental, phsyical, all of the above, or none of the above.

And arriving at the conclusion that something is obviously wrong, regardless of the cause, or the timing of when others knew, I can't imagine that the help and advice he is being offered includes taking this approach. Because if it does, then those who are supposed to be helping Andersson might just be part of the problem.
I'm finding it hard to believe that someone who comes from a hockey family has landed in this situation. I honestly don't believe his father and/or brother advised him to do this. Which makes one wonder who he is listening to or, in the alternative, whether he has tuned everyone out and is making these decisions on his own.

Listen everyone has been in a bad spot mentally/emotionally/psychologically at some point in their lives. Lose a job not make a team divorce loss of a loved one etc etc. that is not the same as a legit mental disorder or clinical depression/anxiety. And I’m glad lias clarified that thru his agent. That this is not that.

I suffer from anxiety. It hits me everyday in one way or another. But that doesn’t mean I get a free pass when I want to be an asshole.

if he has legit issues let’s hear them otherwise he’s doing himself no favors right now. He should have stayed off of the cameras and out of the media during this time. But he doesn’t seem to be able to do that. The medal throw now looks like a legit red flag. No one asked if he had mental problems then. They just shit on him for being an asshole. Like he deserved. This shouldn’t be different.

Well said. I have always been sympathetic to those with verifiable mental illnesses. I have absolutely been in a position of deep depression and anxiety in the past and I did have it impact work at one point. It was terrible and almost crippling. Depression and anxiety run in my family and I've been very lucky to have largely avoided the worst aspects of it myself.

But none of that would rise to what we are discussing.

All of this just hits the nail on the head, Kovy. I disagreed with you a lot on Lias in the past, but this is spot on.

Now I will await those who want me to take allegedly "outdated right wing views" and shove them up my back side. Or something.

Lias Andersson's problems are mostly mental and somewhat physical. Quoting him from a Swedish newspaper:
”Jag har blivit rubbad på ett personligt plan”

"I've been disturbed on a personal plane."
"Things have happened that has made me feel bad as a person."
"Of course you would've wanted to play. I'll get to that later, but now isn't the time. It has been an unsustainable situation for me as a person, but it has been nice to be back at home court (Sweden)."
"It's not a promise that has been broken, it's things that have happened that has made me very uncomfortable and such things."
"Unfortunately I cannot say anything, I have a gag from the agents. So I have to shut up."
"I knew I would be suspended. As a hockey player it would've been best to continue playing hockey, but I put my well being and health above that. I also have nagging injuries and have to be home to take care of that."

Question: Do you regret the choices you've made?
"Absolutely not. I'm very proud of them and I think most would agree when they find out what happened."

Question: Do you keep contact with any player on the team?
"I spoke with Mika (Zibanejad) recently. We've talked some, it's him I have the best contact with. I lived with him over there, he's like my brother, he has been taking care of me."

The interesting thing now is, what exactly happened and who/ whom made it happened? And what did they do?

"I've been disturbed on a personal plane."

What a bizarre statement.

Thank you for actually taking the time to translate when another poster was previously asked to and declined.

This whole thing is bizarre. At the end of the day, the kid needs to put up or shut up. Cloaking all of this like he's doing is the exact opposite thing he should be up to. That's probably what he means when he says his agents are telling him to not talk. You can't throw around these veiled accusations.

Update from another newspaper:
Lias Anderssons pappa: ”Han har inte mått bra”

Lias's father: "He hasn't been feeling well."
"The important thing now is Elias is tackling his health and well being."

Lias: "It has been alot of incidents that has affected me on a personal level, that hasn't made me feel well mentally. Purely speaking about hockey it's an idiotic decision, but I have to consider my private life as well."
"I've been disturbed on a personal plane" doesn't feel that weird to say from a Swedish culture."

"I'm not a spoiled brat that complains I cannot play for the New York Rangers. That's not the thing. It's other factors."

Niklas Andersson, father of Lias again:
"I think Lias has been firm in the media with that this doesn't have anything to do with playing in AHL. Yet still people talk about that all the time, people don't get it, they have no idea."
"I'm proud and happy that Lias has made this decision, I support him for 1000% in the same way I think all parents would. He hasn't been feeling well and that's unfortunate."
Who knows what really happened but the rangers seem to be well known for taking care of their players
Supposedly. Since Lias can't be outspoken about what actually happened, who knows?

I'm positive that quoted statement is "on a personal level", but it's what it is.

With mental issues being out of the game, the kid needs to understand that if he's hurt that badly, tell the team and tell them that you cannot play. If that was done, it's poor on the Rangers. If he didn't, it's on him. If a team forces someone to play while injured, especially after reporting it, I would think the NHLPA would intervene.

At this rate, nobody is going to want him. The only option is to heal up, attempt to repair the relationship and get back at it next season. This one is pretty much over.

I think that it's pretty clear that he needs to stop vague-booking this. He's creating more questions, unfortunately.

Either Elias has extremely think skin, which I doubt considering how far he has fought to get good at hockey, considering the extent of his emphasis that certain incidents have deeply affected him on a deep level, something doesn't feel right here. To me it sounds like he feels deeply, systematically abused by someone/ some people within the franchise.
