No i don’t, thats kinda how mental health issues work... you dont really talk about them ‍♂️

Eh, and yet here we are talking about them. And when a client completely bolts, because he is alleging that something heinous took place, you damn well better believe the conversation is being brought up.

And here's the thing, if indeed there is a mental health issue, at this point it's kind of out there in the open and he should be getting help.

Let's even play devil's advocate for a second. There was a mental health issue that went untreated. Okay, well either you reported it or you didn't.

If you reported it, and it wasn't treated, then your agent and your union reps should be brought in to address the situation.

If you didn't report it, and you just up and left, then how the hell was anyone supposed to do anything about it?

And if it's the latter, then everyone should be coming together now to address it --- but that doesn't seem to be part of the messaging. If anything, the messaging almost sounds like a cry for help.

At some point, we can't have it both ways.

no my friend that is quite literally the opposite of what should and would happen. If Lias was diagnosed with a mental disorder that is being ignored by the organization the nhl and the pa would step in. It is the agents job to know these things. To know their physical and mental issues.

the agent almost certainly would not tell a reporter that the player has no diagnosed issues. I’m sure he has spoken to lias since the interview to clear that up before commenting. If anything the agent would say we aren’t going to make a comment on lias’ situation at this time while they do more evaluations.

its literally his agents job to be on top of this and speak for him when needed
You dont have to be diagnozed to have mental health issues.

Why would the NHLPA get involved in a situation where it's clear the player hasn't earned a spot and is being treated accordingly?
Eh the NHLPA aspect only came up in the theoretical situation that he was being bullied or forced to play through an injury or something else that violated the CBA. Of course if the situation is simply as it appears, there's no reason for the NHLPA to intervene.

That said, if his suspension last much longer and he and his agent were receptive to it, the NHLPA would certainly try to act as an intermediary between the two parties. The PA does do that, from time to time.

Thats rich coming from you... whatever, if you’re going to misinterpret everything i say then feel free to do so
Holy shit you are lost. You have not contributed a single f***ing thing in this thread. Air is being wasted on you and your tunnel vision one way thinking. Instead of insulting people Maybe ask why they came to that conclusion?

Like I mentioned previously IF there is a mental health issue I hope the kid can get better and maybe going back home away from hockey was for the best. It seems like that there are red flags that were missed by management. Obviously we know Gordie Clark was over the moon about his intangibles and toughness, it just been a big misfire

I don’t per se, but if the takeaway is what Lias agent Said then something definitely went missing in the translation.

What YOU are missing is due to your blind support of Lias (you wouldn’t be the first or last fan with this issue when it comes to fandom). I think at this point Andersson’s agent is doing a damage control where his client would actually be better off coming of as a spoiled f***ing brat than someone who slanderously insinuates accusations against the Rangers organization and specific individuals within it.

You have contributed even less.... soooo?

im still thinking this has less to do with mental health and all that comes with that very serious issue and more to do with acting like a child and now realizing hes screwed the proverbial pooch.

he seems to be making things worse the more he spins this.

damage control comes in many colors.

hopefully he shuts up, apologizes, grows up and gets back to work in hartford.

oh and work on your skating too will ya.

Yeah this is why I responded to the "lack of empathy" post yesterday with a "let's wait and see." The stuff in the translated interview, the stuff in Vince's piece, it was very vague, and didn't really say he's dealing with any clinical issues. It sounded more like he was just...anguished? and was dealing with that. But it was enough to make me pull back for a minute and want to see what's really going on.

I still don't know what's really going on, but whatever it is, it seems like it's skewing more towards the "this kid is kind of a douche and is maybe getting bad advice" side of things, rather than the "mentally ill guy getting bullied and forced to play with broken feet."

Again, still don't know...but I'm not feeling very empathetic or sympathetic at this point. We'll see how it all plays out, though. Getting weird, for sure.

Getting back on topic and away from the personal attacks for a second, the debate for me is less about what the problem is, so much as the approach being strange.

Whether it was reported and ignored, or not reported, it all just seems like a counter productive approach.

Um what? Yes you do. That kind of thinking is the reason we now have Cyberchondria running rapid in the world.
This I disagree with. There are literally millions of people who suffer from mental health disorders that are never diagnosed, either because they avoid treatment, don't know how to seek help, or don't even realize that anything is wrong.

My grandmother on my father's side was one of the more mentally ill people I've ever encountered--the had the bipolar disorder endemic to the DeMillo family, she had panic disorder, and on and on--but she was never diagnosed by a medical professional or treated. She self-medicated and refused to acknowledge anything was wrong.

It's so, so, so common for mental illnesses to be undiagnosed.

I think there's more people in the world who self diagnose themselves when in reality they don't have any issues than ones who actually do have mental illness left undiagnosed. Which is a shame because it makes it harder to filter for the ones who do need treatment. I'm very sorry to hear that about your grandmother.

To get back on topic I honestly believe the NYR organization would of either identified Lias illness ( if he has one) and would of assisted him in treatment. They've helped a lot of Players who represent the NYR org with these type of issues.

I went back and read the original interview again, and based on what Lias said -not Dreger or his agent- this seems like an incident or incidents (something serious) and not an ongoing mental health issue.

I have dealt with mental health issues but I'm not a doctor. That's just my interpretation of his words.

What we shouldn't do is dismiss him or assume that he's just saying things because his NHL career isn't going well.
