Elliotte Friedman reported last week that three Marlies had asked to be traded. The reason why you, a Ranger fan, can remember the instances players have grown unhappy on the Rangers' farm team but not the Leafs' should be very obvious.

You want to dissect why a player with psychiatric challenges who had 2 goals in 72 AHL games didn't stick around? Wonder why he didn't stick it out longer than a guy who played three seasons in North America before playing in the AHL?

You think the Leafs' don't value familiarity? The Soo Greyhounds and Kyle Dubas' twitter feed must coincidentally be a breeding ground for the best people available then.

The Leafs have zero Cups in 52 years.

I hear you but my point still stands. I think anyone that has insight into how the two organizations are run would agree.

Toronto has aimed a lot higher than we have. Dubas for example wouldn’t have been hired by us to start with. Their scouting staff is 166% the size of ours. And ours include Sathers kid, John Davidson’s brother and John Davidson’s son-in-law...

His feet might be a degrading issue over a long period. A long rest and tailor made skates/soles might fix it. I had personally similar issues when I was 17 and had special soles made and a long rest to get the pain away. Lias looked quicker on his skates in the preseason after a summer with little skating and lots of gym workouts. Forward 4 months and it looks like he is skating in mud, and now his feet are so painful that he can not fit into regular shoes.

I guess in a hockey locker room all injuries that do not make scars or bruises are looked a bit down on, and players gets told by other players and coaches to just play trough it. Lias might have real pains and and felt he was not taken serious my medical staff/coaches/other players, some jokes might have been thrown his way and he have taken them in a bad way.

Pro sports are not for everybody. I am sure Lias could get a job at Ikea. This is what happens when you reach for someone without the skill or mental toughness to be a pro, let alone a top 10 draft pick.

I say they cut bait now. Ain't no one trading for this guy. I mean if Detroit had deep dish pizza in-house, maybe we could get one but that's about it.

If he was truly injured or unhealthy in any way the nhlpa would have stepped in by now to reverse his suspension from the team.

How easy is it for NHLPA to do that?
I guess Lias will have to report it to the PA, they make a case of it, then get a neutral medical staff to look at it (that are located in the US)?
Lias is on a AHL salary of an ELC from a well to do family, and have a bad time of it mentally already. His part might feel it is not
worth going trough all that for the AHL salary. He stays with family in Sweden until he gets his feet sorted out, and hopefully take care of his mentally tough time at the same time for the loss of some AHL salary.

I can both empathize with him AND be angry at him at the same time.

Hes been a significant bust since day one and his potential mental issues didnt prevent him from being good enough to be a 1st rounder.

I wish him all the best, but he and his reps SHOULD have handled this a different way.

Not once did I see anywhere that he had spoken to Rangers Brass about any foot issues or how he was feeling. I bet had he done that, the Rangers would have happily loaned him back to his SEL team for a year or two.

In fairness, that last part does not need to be public knowledge if he and his reps had done so

I don't get the feet issue---blocking shots? He was skating pretty well in September/October. A lot about the interview is pretty vague--mental health issues can be a very serious thing but whether it's that or just unhappiness with the Rangers organization wasn't clear to me. If Quinn took him aside and told him that he's not top 6 material--well he might disagree but I think Quinn is right. Lias's numbers even in the AHL suggest that is so. The offensive part of his game has just not come around. He's just not as good of a center as Mika, Ryan Strome or Filip. Maybe that's not the way he sees it but it's still true.

The article pretty much left a lot open to interpretation but the one thing Lias did make clear was there is another side to the story. As for his concern over whether people think he's being foolish--well it's his life. Sometimes you need space. From a Rangers perspective though I don't think he's that important of a piece anymore.

There’s no need to say it’s a European thing. Panarin is on pace for 45 goals. Zibanejad had 30 last year. Buchnevich had 21 in 64 games last year.

You're kidding yourself if you think this team hasn't been passing up prime opportunities to shoot looking for a perfect pass.

Vince's article with the help in translating coming directly from the Swedish reporter who interviewed Andersson still implies that Lias thought he was #2 center behind Zibanejad coming out of the training camp.

If he's got Peter Forsberg Feet that doesn't help the situation.

I'm curious about the bullying angle. I can swallow some light rookie hazing but if it turns out people in New York or Hartford went beyond that I'll have issues.

Didn't we read in the Kravtsov drama that there was some "your mama" jokes that got lost in translation as it's a off limits no-no in Russia culture to not go there.

Not exactly the type of bullying I want to see "cancel cultured". Taseless, okay, but not bullying in this hemisphere.

If it's truly a fitness to play thing at the center of this, the NHLPA would file a grievance on his behalf, which would likely include a report from Lias' doctor. The team would present whatever records they had, of any examinations performed by their doctor and any communication they had. The League could either rule for Lias, and say something like the Rangers needed to reinstate him with back pay, and then potentially sanction them, or they could say the team did nothing wrong and deny the grievance. If Lias didn't like the result the next step would be to file for arbitration, and then they could bring in a third party doctor to give an opinion. I imagine the NHL uses arbitrators from the FMCS or AAA. The arbitrator's ruling would then be final and binding.

If it went all the way to arbitration it could easily go until the end of the year. IDK what the exact timeline is in the NHL but in most places it's somewhere between 30-90 days to file a grievance, so he could still be well within his timeline.

I mean -- not that I think he should've been lined up as the #2 center to start the season -- was there a center who outplayed Lias in the preseason besides Zibanejad? He was better than Chytil, Howden, and arguably Strome....

I regret saying this already.

I haven't checked on Lias' story developments in a few days and this is where it's span?? Wow!

The implication of what Lias referred to but chose to leave unsaid could be pretty serious and damaging to the Rangers organization. In this day and age and especially with the recent stories about mental health issues, abuse and mistreatment of players by coaching staff etc, I have a very difficult time believing that if any of this was true JD (as a new President who wasn't here until this offseason) would not act and even overreact to support the player.

A. I don't believe that if Lias come forward within the organization with mental health issues - he'd be ignored, let leave the team and suspended
B. I don't believe that if Lias come forward within the organization with physical health issues - that medical staff would give him a-go to continue playing games while injured (i.e ignored), let leave the team and suspended
C. I don't believe that if Lias come forward within the organization with accusations of abuse from the coaching staff - he'd be ignored, let leave the team and suspended
D. Wouldn't player be able to go to NHLPA?

The simple fact that his agents haven't gone to the NHLPA makes me believe all of what he's saying is nonsense. I question everything he's said.

I said the same thing the other day.
