Again we're going off of that interview but if he hurt his feet while playing with the big team, how were they not aware of it?

The team has to be figuring out what the next step in this process, him doing that interview and some of the stuff he's saying is not going to reflect well for the them.

And now that he's spoken publicly about it, I think there's no chance he ever steps foot back onto the ice as a Ranger

Agree. He’s done.

His NHL odds have probably dropped significantly as well.

CBJ was not a bottom dweller when he left last year. Or the couple years before that.
STL was one of the best teams in the league towards the end of his tenure there.

In the end, JD could of course be fine. It’s not about the president. But we deploy the same approach to most areas. Friends and family, rewards loyalty.

We have the most resources in the entire league bar none except for Toronto. And can use it. Why is our farm a mess for like a decade? So bad that nobody want to be there? Why do we struggle with our drafting?

I am a firm believer that all people are equally smart, but you have some idiots who think they are smarter than the rest. There are no short cuts. You get what you deserve. Hard work, new ways or whatever. Why should we have a functional farm? Why should we draft well? Because we hired someone that was a great guy and that was loyal?

Toronto has been a mess forever and still have issues. But they haven’t drafted a bust high, instead they walked away with Nyls and Marner. Kids stays forever on their farm team. Timshov were there for three years plus. Why is he different from Kovac? They are best friends. Can’t think of anyone that bolted from the Marlies.

They have also — tried — to use their resources, higher the most talented persons out there, and gone unheard of lengths to get advantages.

One Cup in 80 years this summer.

I mean, I don't totally disagree, but it's weird to say one cup in 80 years after gushing about the Leafs

Elliotte Friedman reported last week that three Marlies had asked to be traded. The reason why you, a Ranger fan, can remember the instances players have grown unhappy on the Rangers' farm team but not the Leafs' should be very obvious.

You want to dissect why a player with psychiatric challenges who had 2 goals in 72 AHL games didn't stick around? Wonder why he didn't stick it out longer than a guy who played three seasons in North America before playing in the AHL?

You think the Leafs' don't value familiarity? The Soo Greyhounds and Kyle Dubas' twitter feed must coincidentally be a breeding ground for the best people available then.

The Leafs have zero Cups in 52 years.

But I don’t think there is any narrative being pushed by the Rangers Organization. They have barely said anything on the situation other than acknowledging it. They said they would explore trades to meet his request. They obviously have not found a match that meets their own needs.

Lias said it himself in the interview, he took the first best flight home, left his gear behind. Didnt think twice about the consequences or ramifications with the organization. That is immaturity.

His mental health is one thing. But to me, if thats the main issue that you need to deal with, your first reaction or concern is not to request a trade to another NHL organization to play. If you have mental health issues, youre informing the organization that you need to step away from the team.

This just an immature kid imo, who is also maybe getting bad advice.

Almost like throwing your silver medal away immediately after getting it? At the time we thought "oh what a competitor, ite championship or bust" when coupled with his recent actions is really just irrational immaturity. Hes 20. 20 year olds dont make the best decisions all the time. Zero thought into consequence or 2nd and 3rd order effects.

I'm sure when he sits out for 6 months in exile he will smarten up. He just needs to look at how well Poolparty's situation is playing out,but once again 20 year olds dont see the big picture.

The level of empathy in this thread is just amazing. Great job, guys.

Not a lot of empathy from NYR fans for a guy that quit on this franchise and on his team without notice? What were you expecting, exactly?

Lias could've gone about this the right way instead of quitting right before the holidays. Ie... personal leave, etc... He chose a shit way to do it and what we're supposed to be empathizing with isn't exactly clear at this point.

Does the way he went about it not reflect and maybe shed some light on his mental state at all?

We are supposed to feel for him because he might (but probably doesn't) have mental health issues.

Look, this stuff about his mental health, it's been what, half a day? And it's not even clear if he's actually talking about mental health issues and being bullied and all that? There's not much to go on. The vitriol towards the player is driven by the initial information we had. This new information is certainly intriguing, but leaves us with a lot more questions than answers as what Andersson said was kind of vague and indirect.

If it comes out that Andersson has legitimate mental health issues--like he's bipolar, has social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, etc.--I promise you there will be plenty of empathy. But until such point that we actually know there's a bona fide issue with the kid, what are we supposed to feel empathetic about?

It really doesn't. Everything is pure conjecture at this point and, honestly, I don't expect the Rangers to publicize anything about this at any point in the near future so, odds are, we'll get precisely one side of this story.

Even so, there's a right way to go about things even of this nature. Leave of absence to get help (if that's even what this is). Personal leave. Anything besides "I quit. Trade me. I'm going on vacation."

Or, if he feels like something around the team is what caused him to feel this bad, why would he care about doing right by them?

But you’re right, this is all conjecture and I was having a much better time on HF staying out of this thread

whatever it is, if Vitali leaving was a one off in the minds of management up to JD, I hope Lias leaving is a pattern that prompted the right assessments. I'm glad Lias did this interview. If it's in the public's eyes, it's in management's. Whatever it is, I hope for the love of god they've started to work on internally.

I only hopped in to post the bit about him not even being able to wear shoes, and I'm already regretting it

Well if his hope is to have an NHL career one day it's a pretty stupid idea to burn a bridge with the team that controls your rights.

One may have nothing to do with the other yet when two top 10 pick leave Hartford I believe that qualifies as smoke. Would be nice to know what the cause is before ridiculing kids

I say send Kaapo down to Hartford for 30 days and see if he bolts back to Finland. If he does, we'll know for sure.
