I can barely fit my feet into my Bruno Magli loafers every morning, but even at the end of the day with swollen feet I can pop on my sneakers (is that a phrase anymore?) and go work out in the yard.

Yeah but he's going to see a doc to rule out a broken bone in one of them. That has to hurt walking on in sneakers, no?

Hartford in the last 5 years was abysmal, and then JD is hired and he helps bring a new coach and structure to the system and now Harford is in 1st in the east. How do you not see any correlation there? He made the similar changes and improvements in both StL and CBJ to bring those franchises back to a respectable level. They were both bottom dwellers upon his arrival. But somehow JD get no credit for what he contributed both there and here because "he's just some TV guy".

Utter nonsense.

Did he help bring in KK? We don’t know anything about that. And both STL and CBJ were bottom dwellers when JD left too.

Look, it’s certainly not nonsense to claim that JD has any kind of serious merits compared to a whole bunch of names out there. Come on.

He could be the best guy for the job or not, I don’t know that. It’s impossible to know. But he wasn’t hired on merits.

Why are we now scripting speeches for the coach? Do the players need safe spaces? He said what he said. Want to see it as a shot? Ok. Then see it that way. Who cares? It doesn't distort the truth. Not like he is lying.

Obviously, people care and as a head coach, you’re supposed to be the leader and take the high road, not take petty and trifling potshots at players who aren’t even on the team right now. That’s the type of coach you want leading this team and developing young talent? If so, good for you, but not me. If it’s not a shot, then say you’re proud of him and he earned it and move on. He’s right that Shesty earned it and didn’t say a word. Shesty’s situation is also entirely different from Kravtsov, Chytil and Lias’ situations, so not only does he look petty, he looks stupid.

What comments are those? That Kakko needs to change his game from the way he played in Liga? He does. What is the problem

No, about Europeans and their style of play.

Yeah probably, I responded to your post before I read the full article so I didn't see the potential break part. My bad.

Perhaps tough love is exactly what the world needs right now.

For Lias, im still pissed off at all this. I look at it this way. If you cant handle playing in an AHL environment while your career develops, how are you ever going to have the mental fortitude to handle a 7 game NHL playoff series against a division rival?
I have a feeling that at some point in the last couple years, the Rangers management team has identified “mental fortitude” as a weakness of the team over the past ‘era’.
As we all know, in the early 2000s the Rangers locker room was considered to have a bit of a resort atmosphere. And i think the ‘issue’ has kind of persisted.
I wouldn’t be surprised if management is intentionally being “tougher” on next generation. And obviously this is not going to work with every player. It seems to have worked with Chytil and Shesterkin and De Angelo for example.
But maybe not with others, like Lias.

This is just speculation but the Rangers management has talked a lot about attitude and culture.
But maybe they have taken something of a one-size-fits-all approach rather than being more...nuanced.
Either way I hope they’re taking notes. Tough love is a good thing but it has to be measured. Anyhow just my humble opinion.

CBJ was not a bottom dweller when he left last year. Or the couple years before that.
STL was one of the best teams in the league towards the end of his tenure there.

Eve nf a message to the likes of Andersson, as pointed out, unless there is real mental illness, get over it. You are a big boy playing for a job that very few get to have. What your teammates named Shesterkin & Chytil did, is exactly what you should have done.

What did he say?

Well unfortunately feet issues will ruin a career. And frankly he’s never looked like he could skate comfortably since we got him. This could just be the usual rangers curse. Draft a kid high and he gets a career threatening/altering/ending injury.

None of us know about his mental illness. Also, when Lias was asked about bullying, he said he couldn’t answer the question right now and would do so when the time is right. Considering what came out about Babcock and Peters recently, I’d refrain from telling someone to “get over it” when you have absolutely no idea of what’s going on behind closed doors.

What did he say?

He blamed the team’s lack of shooting on the European style of hockey in a Don Cherry-like but far more subtle kind of way.

Let’s be clear here Peters got fired for being a racist piece of shit and physically assaulting a player. Babcock was fired just because the team was bad. He was hated but not accused of anything Peters did.

I highly doubt Quinn punched Lias or threw an ethnic slur at the Swedish blonde kid.

did he tell him he sucked and needed to play better? Probably. If that’s now bullying and a fireable offense then every coach would be gone by now. The things torts says to players it’s amazing. And he may win a jack adams this year.

I don’t think there is an easy answer here. Something’s fishy, and things don’t seem right.

Maybe it’s unwise to speculate right now. I have a feeling that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

I don't recall Torts getting suspended or fined for this but this was great

The "making one of the NHL's toughest players (Franzen) have a mental breakdown" thing and the Marner thing also pretty clearly played into Babcock's departure. That doesn't rise to the level of racism and assault perpetrated by Peters, but it's definitely more than a footnote to the final chapter in his story.

Granted, this is off Blueshirt Banter, but Patrik Bexell is one of their Swedish correspondent guys:

"It was a guarded but forthcoming Lias Anderson that spoke about his situation. “People can say it’s an idiotic decision in regards to my hockey career - but they don’t know the whole story” is the opening quote from Lias, who is wearing a pair of slippers as he cant fit his feet into a pair of shoes, he played the last games with both Hartford and New York Rangers with injured feet. In the end he left USA on the first possible flight. "

Lias Andersson speaks out

I never cared for any of this. I didn't mind him being tough with the players, on the bench, behind closed doors, practice, whatever--but the coach is one of the biggest public faces of the franchise and I feel like they should not act like children at pressers. JMO, I know others love it.

I haven't checked on Lias' story developments in a few days and this is where it's span?? Wow!

The implication of what Lias referred to but chose to leave unsaid could be pretty serious and damaging to the Rangers organization. In this day and age and especially with the recent stories about mental health issues, abuse and mistreatment of players by coaching staff etc, I have a very difficult time believing that if any of this was true JD (as a new President who wasn't here until this offseason) would not act and even overreact to support the player.

A. I don't believe that if Lias come forward within the organization with mental health issues - he'd be ignored, let leave the team and suspended
B. I don't believe that if Lias come forward within the organization with physical health issues - that medical staff would give him a-go to continue playing games while injured (i.e ignored), let leave the team and suspended
C. I don't believe that if Lias come forward within the organization with accusations of abuse from the coaching staff - he'd be ignored, let leave the team and suspended
D. Wouldn't player be able to go to NHLPA?

If EDM wins the cup this year is it because Chiarelli oversaw the overhaul of that team? I think those teams played three rounds in the POs and won like one of them while he was there.

All I know it’s that the hire of him wasn’t based on his merits. You should hire the best guy for a job. Maybe JD was the best guy on the planet, but I am not sold on it.

One Cup in almost 80 years, why should we win another one? Because JD, Ortmayer, Drury and co are the best guys on the planet to handle their positions? Color me sceptical, and I think our disastrous job with the farm speaks its clear language of how well things are working right now...

The number one team in the AHL = "a disasterous job with the farm."

Okay...

“But I'm not a spoiled (expletive) kid who complains about not being allowed to play hockey for the New York Rangers. That's not the thing. There are other factors.”

Weird because all of this makes you out to be just that, a spoiled brat
To be fair, we don't know what happened. Not making any speicific accusations isn't helping his case though. If there's something to expose, then he should expose it explicitly and it should be dealt with by the team's front office or at the NHL level if appropriate.

Vague media comments like this, however, are not a good way to handle the situation.

Again we're going off of that interview but if he hurt his feet while playing with the big team, how were they not aware of it?

The team has to be figuring out what the next step in this process, him doing that interview and some of the stuff he's saying is not going to reflect well for the them.

And now that he's spoken publicly about it, I think there's no chance he ever steps foot back onto the ice as a Ranger
