I'm not talking about a 60+ point guy, but a consistent 30-40 would've been a nice add to his defensive game.

Yeah I'm just not convinced he ever would have been that, even if he did spend more time in the SHL or the AHL. At least not to the degree that he isn't already. From 2019-22 he averaged 34 per 82. It's one thing to put up the points, it's another to be the reason those points are put up. His production is, to an extent, a function of the teams offense. So he can put up those numbers when the offense is up, but he's never going to drive those kinda numbers.

SHL numbers do not always translate well to the NHL. For example, David Rundblad scored 50 points in 55 games (the record is 53 points for defenders) but in the NHL he scored 25 points in 114 games.

In regards to how Öhgren will be used, someone said Färjestad are stacked on the wings which is true but I would say Öhgren will be middle 6 from the start and have potential to compete for more minutes as well. Beyond this the team has been desperate for a proper goalscoring winger on the PP as the two go-to guys struggled last year, one of them being Viksten, who Öhgren replaces.

I'd guess he sees roughly 16-17 minutes / game with a significant role on PP2 or a role on PP1, assuming he progresses as predicted.

How bad is the injury? How much time is he expected to miss?

Is traveling to Minny (where he'll be for at least a week) as they want to have a look at his injury, Färjestad think he won't be back in the short-term.

Wild wants a second opinion of what has been diagnosed in Sweden.
Färjestad does not comment anything regarding the type of injury due to our version of HIPAA but leaves it free to Wild and/or Ögren to comment.

Pretty disheartening news, if it's serious enough to fly him all the way here. Bad backs can be career enders, or at least career curtailers. Grew up with a guy who was an early 1st rounder, and had a great start to his career. Wrecked his back early on, and was never the same afterwards.

As per Michael Russo of the Athletic:

"Bill Guerin told us last night that the Wild received positive news about Liam Ohgren on Thursday. He doesn’t need surgery on his upper body injury and can begin skating when he returns to his SHL team, Farjestad."

I heard "Back injury", but can't find anything more specific.
Back injuries linger. Bad news for him to have one so early. What looks like an injury that doesn't need surgery, over time can degenerate and suddenly surgery is his only option to have any lengthy time between flare ups.

Yeah, that's why it appears to be good news that he can at least continue skating with the team.

Also my apologies, I thought I was commenting in the general prospects thread.

And also depends on the extent and location. Pull vs tear etc. etc. I'm really no expert but hoping it wasn't a tear beacause if it was, like you say, those tend to linger over time. I once strained my lower back muscle lifting weights and it took me out for a good 4 weeks. But good news for Ohgren is that no surgery is required and sounds like he won't be out more than a few weeks so perhaps it was just overstretching the muscle. Fingers crossed.

Translation: After an autumn in the gym and in the stands, it's finally time for Liam Öhgren to make his season premiere after his injury. In the round of 16 against Biel, we will see the 92 in a competitive match for the first time. "It's going to be fun to put on the Färjestad jersey for real," he says.

He is playing his first SHL game right now. Fourth line winger. Got a tripping penalty 10 minutes in, and the other team scored 12 seconds later. His team is down 3-1 after first.
