Prospect Info: Liam Ohgren LW, 19th Overall, 2022 NHL Draft

First game of the tournament for Sweden, he fired a few shots wide so he should fit in here perfectly. Also had a shot in the crest on a PP. Skating looks a little better this game, holds on to the puck a little longer than needed. Looks ok so far after the first.
Was on the ice on the first PP goal for Sweden (they got 2 PP goals so far) Score 2-0

Liked his game in the first, lots of special teams though, and Latvia so hard to assess much beyond good positioning and general decision making. Real nice play in the second forcing a turnover on the forecheck and draws a penalty.

Looks to have a much better skating burst than last years tourney and it makes him much quicker on the forecheck; also plays with more authority and with a greater attack mindset. I feel confident he will win out any board battle he engages in.

Primary assist on Lekkerimaki’s PP goal, nothing special but opened up the space for him to walk in and blow it by the goalie.

Looking so much better in the second frame, took command of the play whenever he was on the ice. Drew a couple of penalties, got an assist on Sweden's third PP goal. The fourth goal was on a delayed penalty.
Sweden got so much talent on this team, so don't expect him to lead the team in points.
But remember, he just recently came back from an injury and is far behind them all in that regard. Still too early to judge him fairly.

He plays a pro caliber possession game right now in my opinion. AHL time might help with system specifics, and offensive confidence (not guaranteed with the IA offense) but if he plays 3rd line next season I would not be surprised at all.

This was a big step forward for him, good to see him play with a little swag again. Next game up is thursday vs Germany

Looked pretty good today. First power play unit, drew two penalties, got one assist . Shoot first mentality. Teammates didn’t seem to be finding him for one timers, even though he was open. Looked fast and strong.
Sweden looked strong and has a lot of high quality players. They should go far.

I didn't think he looked fast. Average'ish speed. Bends low when he skates so he appears smaller than he actually is. Didn't stick out, for me.

I thought he was first to a lot of loose pucks which generated offensive zone possession.

I have never thought that Ohgren looks anything more than a depth guy that can provide some secondary scoring. Didn’t watch the game but I’d be happily suprised if he changes my opinion.

Must be watching a different guy, he was flying out there.
No, it was #20... just my opinion. Doesn't mean he can't get faster, or that he was slow. He is supposed to have a good shot, but didn't see any signs of it, in a small sample size. Seems to have a solid all round skillset.

he definitely plays an honest north-south game but he brings some great physical attributes to the table. imagine a lighter Duhaime with hands and a rocket for a shot. Think a thicker Zucker. I think that’s the floor.

I don’t think he’s anything close to the type of skater Zucker was here. He does have a rocket of a shot and decent skill. I just don’t think the skill is enough to be a true top 6 guy

plenty of skill. Hard to show it as a teenager in the SHL though. Zucker comp is more to show he is a tunnel vision type who gets pucks to the net. You need those types too

How does his shot compare to Snuggerud’s?
Very different kinds of shooters, Snuggerud has a much quicker release and is very accurate, Snuggeruds shot is up there for very best of players not in the NHL right now IMO. More of a snap shot guy that should play well in limited time and space situations.

Ohgren can rip it though, his wrist shot is the bread and butter, and he does a good job of possessing the puck and making room to get it off, but will need to make more advancements to it if he wants to be a consistent NHL scorer IMO.

How does his shot compare to Snuggerud’s?
I think Snug has a better shot, but seen him too little to be sure. Liam shoots pretty good, many of his goals comes after gaining the zone with the puck on his stick. He needs to be better at taking position for the one-timer is my uneducated guess.
Still room for improvement. Give him some time and it will be better.

I liked his first period, just so smooth with the puck and wins all of his battles, had a real nice cross crease feed that would have been an NHL assist.
