Oh absolutely! I'm sure he would have taken the minimum NHL contract of $550,000 to sign with us. Excellent post.

what i meant was instead of signing Greene we could have used that money and add a million or so to sign Ehrhoff?

don't need to be a dick

drew muzzin
slava Martinez
greene/regher Mcnabb

I would rotate greene regher with McNabb and run the slava alec pairing. Moving A mart to 3rd pairing will have him leaving next year to another team for a top 4 playing time.

Not a chance...pp excepted.

Slava/A-Mart would clear no one from the net. Quick would have bodies all over him. That pairing would get exploited quickly.

You guys forget how big Muzzin is, He is 6'2" or 6'3" on skates and closer to 230 LBS(Lean Muscle).

Muzzin is a big dude. Also Doughty is just a Hockey savant with his stick defense, so it works.

A Voynov-Martinez pairing would get exposed consitently. I love AMart. If he was 5 inches taller and 25lbs heavier, he'd be a perennial all-star. He plays a solid game, and certainly doesnt let himself get pushed aroudn too much, but his size is still a hinderance (he is NOT over 6ft tall)

The reason we love Martinez is he's playing 3rd pairing minutes, and crushing them. Leave him in the little pond.

Player | Height | Weight
Doughty | 6' 1" | 213
Greene | 6' 3" | 234
Martinez | 6' 1" | 209
Mcnabb | 6' 4" | 208
Mitchell | 6' 3" | 210
Muzzin | 6' 3" | 214
Regehr | 6' 3" | 222
Voynov | 6' 0" | 194

Does the 2 inch and 1 lb difference between Martinez and Mitchell make Voynov - Mitchell a solid pairing but Voynov - Martinez a disaster?

A-Mart is not 6'1" or 200 LBS. You ever met the guy in person ? I have, he is closer to 180 LBS, and about my height in street clothes 5'11"

It's not the weight and the height that makes the difference, but their style of game. Mitchell's mostly a SAH dman, whereas Amart is a PMD much like VV. So, while Amart and VV pairing could be intriguing on paper, it probably won't work.

Mitchell is also bigger than that, he is closer to 230 LBS than 210. Also seems taller, id wager the guy is 6'5" on skates.

Slava needs a dominant Stay at home guy, so Slava can do what he does best=MOVE THE PUCK.

We can't have Slava be an in-between guy, he proved this year he sucks at it.

You guys are assuming its going to be exposed on paper just as much as I'm assuming it could work out. I don't see any reason not to try it, Sutter loves to use the regular season as his tinker workshop anyway.

Sutter also doesn't like playing A-Mart over 14 minutes a night or moving him up in pairings.

So now he is going to pair him with Slava ? Nope....

Slava's partner will be McNabb or RR or Greene or Shultz. Which every-one plays the best.

I don't think Sutter hates Martinez, you can earn your place in Sutter's lineup. Martinez earned his way out of the dog house and secure a full-time roster spot, whose to say he can't earn more? Its more much likely than McNabb instantly earning that spot and Voynov - Regehr hasn't exactly been lights out.

I tend to agree as much as I love both guys. Neither is small or soft but they're our two smallest d-men and neither punishes guys regularly. As skilled as they are, imagine them out there vs. Benn-Seguin-Nichuskin. They'd be roadkill vs. other configurations we can roll out.

This is partly why many of us feel the writing is on the wall with Martinez. He's amazing in the 3rd pairing because he does play soft minutes (advanced stats agree). He'd be good in the 2nd pairing too but Voynov/Martinez is a roster redundancy that's a luxury with AMart's current contract but may not be feasible next time around.

My 2C is that losing Mitchell will hurt from an experience/physicality standpoint. Hopefully McNabb is ok being an ******* on Slava's behalf. I know we like to collectively bemoan Greene/Mitchell/Regehr but they bring a Kings element that no other playoff team really had (at least form guys that could play). McNabb seems to be able to step into that, but with 10 years less NHL experience. Next year we will have some bumps in the road, and the following year we'll likely get even younger.

In other words, don't expect another Jennings. I don't see a 2nd pairing upgrade that's attainable.

A Voynov-Martinez pairing would only get exposed because VV is a Russian dumpster fire. Marinez is OT G.O.A.T. :sarcasm:

Anyone who thinks that Voynov will be better next season should remember that he's going to be playing with one of the following: Regher, a year older; Greene; or McNabb, a rookie.

Voynov's partner is definitely one of our roster's weakest parts. Obviously, we're doing okay, but with Mitchell leaving, this spot is more apparent.

Most people cant wrap their head around such a outlandish concept. You would think he's 50 years old. He's the new scapegoat on a team that has won two Cups in three years. Boggles my mind.

I love Voynov and I expect a better year from him.

I also don't understand the need to discuss the D. It's as good as its going to get, and its damn good in my opinion.

This same D (essentially the same D) has back-ended two Cup winners in three years, and took an injury-riddled team to the WCF in the middle year.

I mean, what in the **** is their to discuss, anyway?

You know, if I type "dick" it doesn't get masked but if I type a milder form of the word, that begins with pr and ends with ick, I get ***** and it's masked out.

One of the world's great mysteries.
