Let's talk, specifically, about our D

Salary Cap. If we kept Mitchell, we'd have to jettison one or possibly 2 others. Given his age, Mitchell was the obvious one to go.

AMart will anchor the third pair. His ability to play on the left and right side is key. He will start with Greene then play with McNabb for a bit. McNabb and Greene will both be healthy scratches at different points in the season. AMart will play 82 games barring injury, with significant time on the PP and a more limited role on the PK.

Nope, not salary cap. If we had signed Mitchell, we wouldn't have re-signed Greene, who is clearly the better player even at his age, so, salary cap isn't it. Again, I'm talking to those who are saying that kings are in a "all-in mode", meaning we need to be at our best at any cost...

Amart and McNabb pairing has disaster all over it. Sutter hasn't paired up VV and Amart, I highly doubt he's going to risk Amart and McNabb the rookie together.

With Mitchell Kings can't resign Green and King. So it's not only Mitchell or Green, signing Mitchell would create more questions.

Greene is 31, Mitchell is 37. Of course it was all about age, that and Mitchell wanted at least two years and the Kings didn't want to give it to him.

Seems to me you just have a personal hard-on for Martinez to go. I believe this guy is going to grow as he gets older and more experience and just to jettison him off in his youth is pretty short-sighted, in my opinion. Or are you just George Maguire posing as a hot girl?

Yeah, and Vey was an original 4th round pick. It's not ill-conceived that Martinez could fetch a 1st rounder. I don't think you want to do that if you are the Kings. That guy is simply underrated by too many people. The Kings need to keep a balance of prospects but not deplete their existing core. DL is definitely up to the task.

I doubt he would fetch a 1st, but a 2nd and another pick is possible. Remember, even if Lombardi does trade him, he's a rental. No guarantee he'll re-sign and that affects asking price. Anyway, I don't see him being moved unless Sutter really sours on him.

Yes salary cap. You sign a guy 35 or older to a multi-year deal it counts against the cap no matter what. The guy can literally die and it counts against the cap. Considering he lost a year to a knee injury last contract a two year deal is just dumb.

Then please explain why Lombardi only dealt with Greene, after negotiations with Mitchell fell through. And if you've read my post, you'd know better than to question my stance on Amart.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought there were reports of WM being in negotiations, prior to signing of Greene.

I believe their were reports of negotiations with Willie after Greene signed as well, and to me that indicates the goal was to bring both back, not one or the other.

If I were betting, I'd put my money on negotiations dying because DL was only offering a 1 year deal and Mitchell wanted 2 years. I guess he didn't care too much about winning more cups though since he went for the most money with the Florida offer.

The ideas of trading Martinez are ridiculous when we don't have a replacement yet. DL tradde Johnson because Voynov proved he was NHL ready by playing solid during his injury call up. McNabb hasn't proved anything yet to replace Martinez.

Martinez isn't going anywhere. Some posters here are speculating without a basis...they might as well start a blog and call themselves a mayor, or a supervisor, or a congressman...whatever.

Agreed.

Martinez stays. I'm not sure where all the BS about trading the guy is coming from. I understand the upcoming cap situation and the fact that he's more than likely going to get a raise after his current contract. But think about it, everything is fluid and will always be- the Cap itself, trades, retirements, etc. The financial landscape will be different when we need to take care of Marty's contract; and I'm confident Deano will do everything in his power to keep us in the right mix.

D-men like marty don't grow on trees. He is a proven commodity: a smooth, skating, mobile defenseman, who breaks out the puck well and plays the body well; solid for the most part defensively and consistent offensively. A guy who will score BIG goals. The type of defenseman every team in the FREAKING NHL wants and values.

I like Amart, but let's keep it real here, he's our 4th best dman overall. DD, Muzz, VV all better dman than Amart. Just imagine if Amart didn't score the series clinching wins vs. CHI & NY... I'm thinking many would be singing a different tune.

4th best defenseman, huh?

Guess he has to stay then because last time I checked, a team skates 6 D men per game. :)

I guess so. But for those really in the know, Marty, among Kings defenseman, led the team in goals, plus/minus (tied with DD), shooting percentage, even before the playoffs started.... and in only 61 games.

I guess its a good sign that the no trade folks are that way because they assume the boys will automatically be a playoff team. But yeah, assuming the team makes another run you cannot trade Martinez unless you have something as good or better to replace him -- "asset management" be damned. Moreover, you gotta assume AM will be going all out all season -- everybody wants the dough.

Random but kinda funny is that the bottom 5 guys in goals scored all are now off the team.
