My guess is it was staged.....it remind me to the superbowl show and Janet Jackson's dress ''malfunction'' in some way. The Oscar's veiwership was plummetting in the last few years and they needed something to boost the whole thing, this would do it.

Seems also like Rock was jujst waiting for it

I'd rather get full knuckles then get slapped.

Only a certain kind of person gets slapped, it's a total disregard for your standing as a man/human being.

The weird part was that Will Smith laughed at that Chris Rock joke. But his wife didn't, so then he went on stage and did what he did. And even when he walks off the stage after the slap, he still has a smirk on his face.

The slap seem fake and all that led up to it and the reaction seem staged but when Will started yelling and Rock is just stubbling the rest of the presentation… If it is fake that is some pretty good acting…

He goes after the people that deserve it. He focuses on the illegal, stupid and the absurdity of celebrity lifestyle. He would have never made the joke last night, it’s too low brow, even for him. But like you said, the Oscars would never allow it as they are the “proper” award show. Golden Globes have always been the less heralded show with everyone drinking and generally having a good time.

Will could have had the perfect evening if he had just waited and smacked Chris after the show.
