I can understand where Lee comes from. He's pissed because his films always miss the big one. Tell that to Spielberg, who had to wait for his black and white movie to win the best movie award.

But he can't complain about bigotery here, because African Americans were well represented at the trophy circle.

Well first nobody owes him anything. Secondly, it's not like he was in contention every year and that other winners that won did not deserve it. He had a good case for Do the Right Thing and Malcom X for sure. Here's the thing though, the first case it was an independant movie and those were not winning big prizes in 1989. Malcom X was 1992 and sorry but nobody was gonna beat Unforgiven the cowboy farewell from Clint Eastwood.

The funny aspect to this though is that it is similar to 1989 in that DTRT a challenging black movie was beaten by a "safe" black movie in Driving Miss Daisy like this year a challenging black movie of his Blackklansman got beat by another "safe" uplifting black movie "the Green Book". He must be like "I've had enough of these motherf***ling bland black flicks stealing my thunder!!!!" lol

Desolation of Smaug...not a bad sequel but nowhere near as good as the first, gave it 3.5 stars...naturally, some parts were dragged on due to the addition of the dumb love triangle. I found the movie only good good when we met Bard the Bowman, that's when the movie actually started moving forward...the rest was mostly filler (except for the Beorn scenes). Also found the sound track for this one wasn't nearly as good as the 1st one. Up next is of course the 3rd one...

I’m going to sound like a bigot but I felt it seemed like everything was trying to be super PC. Oscars were lame.

Hollywood is like 95% propaganda. The oscars are ironically doing a good job waking people up to that fact.

Feels like with the oscars awards being something of a zero-sum game, there'd be more critical analysis as to which groups are over represented with all the bitching and moaning that blacks are under represented. That would require a modicum of intellectual honestly, though.

Watched Hobbit 1, gave it 4 stars. Probably higher than most would give it but I'm a huge LoTR fan and I think the first Hobbit was well-made, and followed the book for the most part. It kind of went off the rails in the next two though so those will be lower. In the process of re-watching the 2nd Hobbit now, mainly between intermissions. Also a big fan of Martin Freeman, I liked him in Sherlock as well, I recommend everyone to watch that series.

John Wick (2014): ★★★★

Casino (1995): ★★★★

Thor Ragnarok (2017): ★★★★

An Unexpected Journey (2012): ★★★★

I guess Spike Lee thought there was not enough African-American representation. lol

Just learned on You Tube that Black Panther won three technical Oscars, I guess the voters were impressed by the horrible CGI.
Spike Lee? LMFAO!

I liked some of it. Biggest problem was the ending. It's a case where they turned right when they should have turned left.

Not sure how to phrase this, but I was fine with the ending itself and the fates of the main characters.

I did not like HOW it ended for one of them. Basically no closure on his story arc, or at least, not a statisfying closure.

That said, if I am thinking about the twist you might be referring to... yeah, that really came out from left field.

Yea first I didn't think the resolution was that great for the lead characters.

But my main issue is more an obvious one, It's been a while since I've seen it so my memory is sketchy but the whole filming of the fight and showing it to the World and this sort of "revealing" the existance of super-heroes, I didn't buy at all. Because since this is a World based on reality, if it was today, most people would think it's a Hollywood movie and would laugh it off.

I was hoping for something a little more subtle as an ending like the woman who hunted them down with the secret organization is hunted down herself at the end by this organization because by her participation in these events she sort of became a super-villain herself. You could even show her entering a comic-book shop and then coming into a trance like Mr. Glass in the first movie and then she grabs a comic....

I don’t disagree with you on both points. The end fight didn’t have a big enough audience to really go viral and yeah, seeing that on YouTube would look like a hoax.

I also half expected the character you are referring to would be “removed” as well at the end.

It’s just frustrating because the ending really opened up a possibility of more stories but this is it. Glass ended the trilogy.

Anyhow, I’m still peeved how it ended for one. It’s like Han Solo getting head shotted by a random Stormtrooper.

Probably my fave movie character of all time

I was a bit shocked that it seemed like an ending as well as yea there was more territory to explore with with these characters. It's as if M.Night had decided that this was going to be the End of trilogy and never thought about it being the start of something.

Maybe what they could do would be to have their friends/family to start a crusade themselves to find other super-heroes/villains(by doing accidents?). Or maybe having their own powers as it seemed for a moment that Bruce's son and the girl kidnapped by McCavoy would develop some.

I would love for someone to do a re-do of the whole thing but Carrie is not there anymore. Bear in mind I heard she shot a lot of material and with modern tech they could do marvels.

I wasn’t happy either as he was my favorite SW character but I was fine with the decision. It wasn’t a kick in the gut as it was a stab in the heart (literally). As a father myself, the pain I felt would be the same as if I were to completely fail my son.

I think there are a lot of avenues they could pursue. Not sure how open M. Night would be with other writers and directors continuing the story.

I've been re-watching first 11+ seasons (some of season 12 shouldn't be on this list for obvious reasons) of Parts Unknown once again. The original thought was to try and rank all ~100 episodes from best to worst as I see them. It's proving to be a gargantuan task sadly, even with cliff notes I am taking while consuming each episode. The list is so vast that I'm having trouble identifying the exact order. Perhaps I will do top 50 instead, not yet sure.
