This whole evening is an ode to Queen. They began the show with Queen and now magic dust sprinkles are punctuating the ceremony with yet more Queen-related winners.

So far I thought Blackkklansman should have won best score and seemed obvious to me... Christian Bale seemed to be best actor to me also.

Otherwise nothing too crazy

The Umbrella Academy: 7/10 decent first season. The highlight of the show is the music.

Capharnaüm: 6/10 Not worthy of the oscar nomination. Shadow and Burning were both way better.

Spike Lee was pissed at the result. The Twittosphere is somewhat divided on his reaction.

I love Spike Lee's films, but the man went full Tortorella in the post-show interview. He whined about never catching a break and refused to give Green Book the slightest acknowledgment. He deserves credit for honesty, but a little grace would've been nice. Guess that's not his thing.

For what it's worth, BlackKlansman was my favourite film of the year, followed closely by Green Book. Two great films. I'm fine with the results.

I guess Spike Lee thought there was not enough African-American representation. lol

Just learned on You Tube that Black Panther won three technical Oscars, I guess the voters were impressed by the horrible CGI.

IKR? That said, All the Stars was one of my fav songs of the summer so I was ok with that winning.

Bao and Spiderverse were deserving as well.

Watched Hobbit 1, gave it 4 stars. Probably higher than most would give it but I'm a huge LoTR fan and I think the first Hobbit was well-made, and followed the book for the most part. It kind of went off the rails in the next two though so those will be lower. In the process of re-watching the 2nd Hobbit now, mainly between intermissions. Also a big fan of Martin Freeman, I liked him in Sherlock as well, I recommend everyone to watch that series.

Prodigy (2018): ★★½
Now You See Me (2014): ★★★
Black Panther (2014): ★★★½
John Wick (2014): ★★★★
Oldboy (2003): ★★★★½
Casino (1995): ★★★★
Django Unchained (2017): ★★★★½
Thor Ragnarok (2017): ★★★★
Power Rangers (2017): ★½
Secret Life of Pets (2016): ★★★
An Unexpected Journey (2012): ★★★★

I’m going to sound like a bigot but I felt it seemed like everything was trying to be super PC. Oscars were lame.

Been like that for the last 5 years or so, really. Watching the clips on You Tube of this year it felt like the Oscars were trying to aim for some sort of hippie audience that probably do not even watch the Oscars instead of aiming for the most people possible. As if they knew that the ratings would be horrible and so aimed for a niche audience as long as they get nods for being socially aware.

They weren't that far off in the next two Hobbits but they added stuff from the forgotten tales. The movies were so long though. The part with that female elf felt a bit off. Peter Jackson should stay off romance stuff. Also don't forget that the Battle of the Five Armies was about a page or two in the books. Bilbo gets knocked down early on and he only gets to know about the Battle once he wakes up.

Still, too long. I bought the longer versions as soon as they came out but I still have to watch them

There's a fan edit by Maple-Films you can download for free, he did a pretty good job shortening it to 4-5 hours.
