OT: Let's Remember Some Guys

Who remembers Jeff Toms? Until 2016, he was the last Ranger claimed off waivers to record a hattrick.
He seems to have been able to carve himself a nice career in the NLA after leaving north america, no postseason success though. Represented Canada thrice in the prolific Spengler Cup to boot!

Remember when Prust-Anisimov-Shelley bizarrely was our best line (even according to advanced stats!) as the Rangers got blazing hot down the stretch in 2009-10 and almost beat the SCF-bound Flyers to the last spot in the East?

People complain about nepotism with the Simon Kjellberg pick but back in 2008 nobody was complaining when we drafted the kid of a former Rangers prospect we selected in 1985 ;)

Some great memories and stories in this thread, keep banging the material.

Many in this forum, like myself seem to fall into the early 30-something category, memories extend 20-25+ seasons. During the dark era of thinking Tom Poti could emerge into an upper tier offensive dman (lol) I have vivid memories of a guy in the 300 section screaming like there’s no tomorrow: HIT HIM WITH YOUR PURSE, POTI! 14-year-old (and 30+) me thought it was hilarious.

HIT HIM WITH YOUR PURSE has been yelled at the Garden at many Ranger defensemen through the years, starting with Harry Howell (maybe even earlier), down to Tom Laidlaw, to Poti, as well as many others.

I'm late 40's and my memories go back 40 some years.

Every NHL player over 6'4" who played during Lindros' career should have to write him a check. The size arms race got crazy and it was all to combat hom and the Legion of Doom.

I know you're talking about Brad Stepan but we also drafted Andre Burakovsky's dad back in 1985, too. We could have moved Kjellberg to the wing and formed the Nepotism Line.

How about a little love for the goalies- Ram and Muzzati?

Let's not forget the legendary Guy Hebert!

Clearly needed to have patience before I posted.

Some of the folks who have been posting here for a while may remember my feelings about Putty. The Ron Blow had the wherewithal to place Toms on a line with Lindros. And I promptly lost my mind (ahh, the days of youth and impetuousness). Toms goes on to score a hat trick (may have been the highlight of his NHL career). I log on to HF and I couldn't read a thread regarding Toms that somehow did not link me to the discussion in one way or another.

Ahh...the days. All that needs to happen now is for JR to come back and he and I can rekindle our Dale Purtinton vs. Sylvan Lefeeble debate.......
