Kris King. Played here in NY for about 4 years. He wasn’t very offensive, but he was an excellent defensively.

I cannot explain how livid I was when we traded King and Domi away for Eddie Olczyck. Total Neuter job. I guess it worked out though. Eddie O has a ring with our team name on it.

In 1991, the Rangers were still flying commercial and I sat next to Troy Mallette on a flight from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia. He couldn’t have been nicer and indulged me talking hockey the whole flight. He was intrigued that I had been a fan for so long (this was 1991) and that I was at a game in Pittsburgh. Some of you old timers may remember the loss the night before when VBK misplayed a puck off the boards for an overtime goal to give Pittsburgh a huge win.
That kid had about 550 PIM in the NHL before he turned 21. He must have been a handful though, because he flamed out quick.

I remember that he Liffiton, Baranka and was it Nycholat? were meant to be our future bottom/middle pairing D guys coming out of the Pack

They got Liffiton from the Avs in some trade I think and he was hoped to be a hard nosed defensive defenseman, never panned out.

Baranka was weird, he seemed like he was progressing as planned to be a middle pair guy maybe but he essentially just bailed on the Rangers and the NHL. Don't know what happened there other than I guess he didn't think he'd ever get a shot with the Rangers and going to the KHL was the better career move.

I feel like Nycholat was a random pickup who was more of an AHL guy who got some callups, but Lampman we all kinda kept hoping he'd stick as a bottom pair guy as he came a long ways and was solid in the AHL.

Remember when Sandy McCarthy scored 10 goals and then stopped fighting...

How about Alexander Giroux? Lit it up for the Pack and everyone wanted him to get his shot but while he probably was only a AAAA player, the Rangers weren't really in the mood to give him a go.

I always kind of liked Malakhov. Dude was impressively strong and had good skills but just kinda didn't put things together. Man, the days of picking defensemen off the scrap heap and hoping it'd help fix the Rangers terrible D...who was that other Russian they got from Chicago I think...argh I should know it.

I just looked at the Rangers 2002 roster and wow the names there...

Matt Barnaby, ultimate fan favorite for a few years to the point people swore that he was tearing up on the bench one night not because he had just gotten punched right in the nose, but that he was so upset at how much the Rangers were struggling as a team.

Fata, LaCouture, Josh Green, Rem Murray...lol I remember all those guys and thinking they could be useful SOMEHOW to help fix the mess of a team. Always like Mikael Samuelsson though, solid player even if he wasn't going to contribute a huge amount.

The Joel Bouchard, Corey Cross, Dave Karpa, Lefebvre, Litner, Malakhov, Mironov (That's the guy I was trying to remember!) Ales Pisa, Tom Poti defense too, wow.

fun times man, fun times.

Stealing all the names I guess, just remembering those terrible teams. Funny thing is even that 2002 team had some good forward talent even if the D was basically Leetch and a bunch of crap, but the coaching was so terrible that it didn't matter who they had on the roster they were never going to get anywhere.

Someone mentioned Johan Witehall. I just remember I enjoyed how his last name was pronounced

Ohhh, great one from the Jagr days is Martin Rucinsky. I remember two things about him basically..one is that he scored a goal by missing the net high and the puck bounced off the glass, then off the back of the goalie and into the net.

The other is one game the Rangers were winning by several goals and the other team was getting chippy and he pointed at the score board, counted off the Rangers goals on his hand, and then flipped off the other teams bench.

You mean Boris Mirinov?

So many great forgotten players. I remember Johan Vee-te-hall. Rico Fata was lightning fast in a straight line. Pascal Dupuis sucked and then became good in Pittsburgh.

Someone of more recent vintage is Wojtek Wolski.

Contrary to belief, Sergio Momesso, Kevin Hatcher and Mike Knuble spent time here

It gets pretty tense around here especially when we're playing particularly horrible. So let's play a game, which isn't really a game, but is just a feature on a sports blog I like. It's called Let's Remember Some Guys. You don't have to do anything other than post some guys that you remember. Maybe you want to recall when you saw them randomly, like @NYR Viper just recalled seeing Kris Newbury and @Amazing Kreiderman saw Andrew Yogan playing in Beirut or somewhere. The guys don't need to be special or noteworthy, just guys you remember, or guys who if you say their name, you think other people will be like, "I remember that guy."

Terry Yake

Rumun Ndur

Zarley Zalapski

Peter Sidorkiewicz

Brent Fedyk

Do you guys remember any of those guys?

Doesn't this clown post on these boards?

Derek Boogard
Donald Brashear
Tanner Glass
Colton Orr
Aaron Asham

In 02' we had Bure, Lindros, Kovalev, Messier, Leetch, and Holik all on the same team

No mention of Patrick Rissmiller or Tyler Arnason? Arnason somehow had three 45p+ seasons in the NHL and once scored 55 for the Blackhawks in the "Erik Christensen 1C by default"-role.

Also; Erik Christensen 1C.

Wojtek Wolski was hugely underrated as a Ranger and should not have been run out of town like he was.

Maybe too notable for this thread, but I loved Tan Man Vinny Prospal.
