OT: Let's Remember Some Guys

this is what being an long-time fan is like

i keep assuming Steven Lorentz is the son of short-term NYR, Jim
(part of the Gene Carr acquisition from St Louis, for DuPont, Egers, Murphy...)

But his brief time at MSG was 50 years ago

Grandfather and grandson

"Terry Sawchuk passed away on this day in 1970, due to a pulmonary embolism at only 40 years of age. In what was described at the time as a “horseplay” accident, Terry and Rangers teammate Ron Stewart had a drunken money-related scuffle in the front yard of a home they had rented together. As of a result of the scuffle, Sawchuk suffered serious internal injuries that would see him hospitalized for more than a month leading into his passing. The late Shirley Fischler was the last reporter to speak to him, and during the visit Terry had told her that it was “just a fluke, a complete fluke accident.”

Sawchuk is widely regarded as one of the greatest goaltenders of all-time, winning 5 Stanley Cup championships and 4 Vezina Trophies over the course of his 21-year career.

began his career as NYR,
had 2 great season in minors, traded for ... Chris Jericho's dad ...

February 28, 1970: Traded by the New York Rangers with Real Lemieux to the Los Angeles Kings for Ted Irvine. (Hockey-Reference)

While I remember them... Some elite D-men:

Christian Backman: All he did was taking high stick and holding penalties.

Erik Reitz: Aaron Voros in disguise.

Anders Eriksson: Old, over the hill 3rd pairing D. Can't believe Torts played him for 8 games at the end of that 09/10 season.

Jeff Woywitka: The horror.

The 09-10 season, 17-18, and to a lesser extent the strike shortened 12-13 (up until the Gaborik trade) were probably the most three headaches post 2005-06 reboot. The lineup in 09-10 was dreadful so it's no surprise some scrap heap was there.

Woywitka was a depth guy that had to fill in once Sauer was hurt. That 11-12 team was all will and system. Terrible depth in retrospect.

Terry Sawchuck IS the greatest goaltender ever! Way ahead of his time!!!

I'm sure all the old timers remember Reijo Ruotsalainen. I just remember what strange name that was back then. Now the name doesn't make me bat an eye.
a fave, my only genuine jersey is his 29

I randomly just pulled up nigel dawes because I saw a dude wearing #10. The guy is still playing. He played a decade of nearly POINT PER GAME hockey in the KHL. UNREAL. Thats insane production in a good league

Dawes had a ton of talent but just not quite enough to succeed in the NHL. I'm not surprised at all that he would feast on 2nd-tier defenses.
