OT: Let's Remember Some Guys

not NYR related, but unique,
no goals allowed, but charged w loss anyway,
as "goalie of record" while pulled for Extra attacker

exposes a weakness of the NHL's 'losing' goalie standard
(IMHO oughta be like 'losing' pitcher - who allowed a lead which was never fully overcome...

You guys remember when we traded Christian Thomas for Danny Kristo?

That was a thread. People even posted in it.
In the end, only memorable thing about Kristo (or Thomas)
Walking a mile, in -33 windchill, and deep snow, in sneakers w no socks or gloves.
Lose sneaker in snow, get frostbite on hands and foot, miss multiple games for high-end D1 program

Danny Kristo was like our best prospect at one point. And Thomas was a guy we were legitimately excited about. Even now, with lots of prospect graduations, that's still hilarious (and sad) to think about.

Danny Kristo played in Hartford with Conor Allen, who, I won't lie, I was legitimately convinced would have an NHL career.

Reading the story you'd think Kristo was a kid from California unfamiliar with winter, but he's from Minnesota.

Gene Carr once a Ranger and who had a famous song written about him by the Eagles...." New Kid in Town" when he was a King .

Edit : The New Kid In Town: Gene Carr And The Eagles
Anyone who was there will always remember his first game as a Ranger at MSG in 1971: 2 goals and 2 assists. We all thought he could not help but become a great player. I think the highlight of his time with the Rangers was when he shadowed Bobby Hull in the playoffs and helped propel the team to the Cup finals. Had one good year with the Pens, 17 G +37 A, but was a disappointment.

Dave Karpa and Shane Churla. Karpa was just not good. I remember when he tried to clear a puck and fired it into the rangers bench and injured one his own teammates.

Churla had the weakest wrist shot in the history of the NHL.

a Mike Bossy related post -
NYR had one of their most effective drafts in '77,
drafting 3 guys who were top 8/10 among that class in career GP and Pts -
but ... passed on Bossy

I remember being so pumped about that trade because, while I loved Dupuis in his short stint here, we got an elite talent for a 3rd liner. Oh man, how funny it is to think about the trajectory of those two careers in hindsight...

Pascal Dupuis should have a statue of Sidney Crosby on his lawn, absolutely saved his career.
