OT: Let's Remember Some Guys

Kisio was also a very meat and potatoes type of player for us back in the day . Hard worker all over the ice . Going back even further Bill Fairbairn #10 was a valued Ranger on the ice . I think he went 5 seasons without missing a single game . I think I read that just recently . It was a sin that we never could get over that hump in the 70's to win one Cup....we beat the Habs not once but twice in their Cup runs in playoff series ...no other club did that to them in their heyday .

I remember him getting the C. Even though I began watching a few years earlier, that was the first season I really became obsessed with hockey. Sigh.. I was nine years old! Seems like another lifetime ago.

Vorobiev came out of the gates blazing and faded away like most prospects back then. Same with Daniel Goneau. I don't think Messier liked Vorobiev very much if memory serves me correctly (and it usually doesn't these days)

I remember watching this game as a kid and getting SO excited about the potential of Vorobiev. Four point night. A goal and three primary assists. Seemed to have great chemistry with Leetch and Messier/Graves. Ended up only playing 31 games with the team (and 33 games in the NHL).

I don't know if Mess had a problem with Vorobiev, but he did make sure to get the puck for him from his first NHL goal.

Beeker ruled! I loved him on the Whalers (doh, wrong green jersey) and was SO excited when we got him.

I am a life-long NJ guy, some family became Devils fans when they arrived

aside from Shanny, I was never much a fan of NYR bringing in all those 'first generation' Devils (Driver, MacLean, McLean, Verbeek, Cirella ...

although both Verbeek and MacLean did each give NYR 1 strong full regular season

There was a time where I thought Vitali Yeremeyev could turn into what Shesterkin is now for this team.

Loved Verbeek in his short Rangers stint. Graves-Messier-Verbeek was awesome.

I actually remember Vorobiev and Goneau as well.

Remember Pascal Rheaume, Dan Fritsche or Dmitri Kalinin?

I actually thought Fritsche was going to be a steal for us in that deal.

And then he ended up being worth the venerable Erik Reitz.

I'm the same. The only reason I'm a Rangers fan is because you had to pay for an extra package to get sportschannel back in ye olde tymes, and MSG was on regular cable.

Fritsche was part of the Toots deal wasn't he? I remember people being a bit excited that he might be more than a throw-in.
I was a big Tyutin fan and am still pissed that we only managed to turn him in to one semi-useful season of Zherdev

Donnie Marshall and Phil Goyette. Both scored over 100 goals as Rangers in the mid 60's and early 70's rosters.

Goyette was one of my favorite players: because of him I have always had an affinity for slick passing play-making centers who would have many more assists than goals. Goyette-Nevin-Marshall: a key line, our #2 line during the first years of the Francis era.

Remember Dave Karpa?

His son plays for Harvard now.

This was the Rangers' version of analytics before the lockout. They signed Dave Karpa (#2) and Igor Ulanov (#5) in the shot blocking leaderboard of the previous season.

If you are wondering, Rich Pilon (NYR) was #21 in shots blocked that season, if you want to see how successful that metric is for picking quality defensemen.
