Imagine thinking Mike York was better than Tom Poti. I honestly think euthanization is the appropriate course of action in that scenario.

York was a 30 goal scorer in his first year who in his second year had less production only because centering the 3rd line behind Messier/Nedved. He did very well on the FLY Line too.

At the time, the fanbase was dying for a homegrown player. He was it. So trading him was very upsetting.

Poti wasn't a bad player he just fell under the category of having been traded for a very popular Ranger and he was finesse in an error when it wasn't cool to be finesse.

Yeah, there's always lots of reasons for stupidity.

Did you know that the NHL kept track of blocked shots in two of Poti's three full seasons with the Rangers and he led the team both years? #PotiFacts

I know the game was more rugged then but it was still disproportionate to how our some mouth breathers in our fan base saw the game. The macho attitude of hockey fans back then was ridiculous. He was a good player, even if he was "finesse".

Nice Omega pic for your profile.

Thanks bud, always good to find fellow NJPW/Wrestling fans in general. Pumped for Wrestlekingdom or what? Card looks sick, so far.

I got tickets for supershow in April and can’t wait. Found out a few weeks ago that a couple of my friends won a contest with Fox 5 and got 4 free tickets for Wrestlemania so I’m going on back to back nights lol. Trying to pick up NXT Takeover tickets and make it a complete weekend.

Malakhov was funny. He just wasn't a motivated NHLer for most of his career. Remember the skiing incident when he was with Montreal?

His first couple of years in the league with the Islanders he was great. Those were his best years. He was the total package, size, agility, speed, a great shot with a quick release (never seen someone take a half windup on a slapper and get so much power on the shot) and good hockey sense.

He was just lazy and yes I remember hearing about it but I never got the full story.

The two times he was motivated were when Lou Lamierello had one of his infamous one on ones with him for the Devils second Cup run, and the first half of 2001-02 where he played well just enough to ensure he made Team Russia for the Olympics. Besides that he was extremely erratic and inconsistent.

Easily one of the biggest wastes of talent I’ve ever seen. Malakhov, Kovalev and Mogilny had enough talent to be in consideration as all-time greats, moreso Mogilny and Kovalev.

I always thought Malakhov would win a Norris or two, but like you said, he was just lazy.

@SnowblindNYR

Omg the team was so bad though. Made you want to punch someone.

I think the main kicker is that the Blueshirt faithful have always been harder on defensemen sans Brian Leetch than shitty or at the very least disappointing forwards.

The machismo of which you speak died when the New Era®️ began. Otherwise, half of post made on the Ranger based forums and other Rangers sports social media would be shitting on a defenseman.

Luckily for Malik, Roszival, Girardi, Staal, Pionk etc. the shit chucking has stopped.

Because people generally only bitch when the puck goes in their own teams goal and defensemen are the last line before the goalie and if there's a breakdown it's always all on the defensemen. A lot of posters don't understand that a decision or mistake by a forward caused a defensive breakdown.

Fedor Tyutin

Sandis Ozolinsh

I really liked Toots. I know what they were going for in the trade for Zherdev but it annoyed me at the time and it really was a waste of assets for a player who had all of the talent but none of the temperament for NHL hockey

Not a Ranger, but DAE when Mike Comrie was the next one lite?

As he started to lose hype, he was mentioned in trade rumors [e2-e4]*to I believe every single team at least once ?

There has to be a thread still running on the pre social media internet with a few hard core bud fans and opposing trolls still spitting venom on the furture of the “star” Carlo Caloaiacovo

God I still do not like the Leafs.

As I recall, half the board was spitting nails when he was not included in the Leetch trade.

From more of players I could not stand. From the Isles (naturally), Baumgartner. And for some reason, Kenny Jonson. Though why I disliked him I cannot answer. Sort of like Doug Jarvis.

I’ll never forget when my aunt who worked for MSG personally organized both Mark Messier and Mike Richter’s retirement nights heard me call him Bozolinsh and proceeded to accidentally call him that during a big meeting regarding playoff merch and media design.
lmao

I remember when he became one of those random Penguins between 2010 and 2015 when the Penguins kept trying reclamation projects with their two big centers instead of actually developing wingers.
