Yes. And what more, we lace it with xylitol and call it a health product due to it being good to your teeth.

I knew that would be caught. Jenkki, or "Yankee" is a household name in the chewing gum scene and those iconic white slightly tooth-looking pieces and ditto the bigger cubes of Hubba-Bubba are called a pillow.
makes sense. similar reasoning on why the term chicklets caught on in the hockey scene.

Since this is the de facto around the league thread, I wanted to talk about for me the most interesting contract signed on July 1st: Connor Brown from Edmonton.

Brown was signed to an essentially league minimum cap hit at $775k. However, he has $3.225M in performance bonuses, so a whopping 81% of his caphit is performance bonuses. What is his performance bonus? 10 games played and he gets the whole lot.

This is league-sanctioned cap circumvention at its finest. It's wild to me that a team would be so shortsided to straight up apply $3.225M in next year's penalty to accommodate a forward like Connor Brown. Next year, at this moment, they'll have $15M once you remove that caphit, but that doesn't include McLeod and Bouchard (probably $6-8M total), and then they'll need to sign one other D and 5 forwards for next year.

Edit: I guess I hit the post button twice since my mouse is super click sensitive, and then it just doubled my content. Thank you @StormCast for letting me know.

Another good reason to OS Bouchard.

why do we keep trying to OS a defenseman? We have a shit pile of defensemen. We need a F
Because we have a hole on the 2nd pairing after this season. Get a good, young defender that's more of a sure thing to replace Burns than hoping Morrow is the real deal. Get him and then you can use Pesce/Skjei to get your forward.

Like I said earlier, this is all moot if we get Karlsson.

not wrong that we need an F. But when the opportunity is there to grab a long-term asset that's worth a heck of a lot more than what we'd be paying in acquisition cost it's hard to pass up. In our case I'd rather try to dickpunch a division rival with an offersheet for Miller, but the Rangers are somehow in a better position to match than the Oilers find themselves in.

That makes zero sense…

they have to acquire assets? We have all our draft picks and if our prospect rating write up in another thread is to be believed, have 28+ prospects that are viewed as being possible legit nhl players who could play a bit…

now if there were specific players on other teams that San Jose want over all of the assets we have in our system and under our control such that we have to trade for those players belonging to other teams so they can be sent to SJ and we need to trade Pesce to acquire those players, then say that…. Instead the text reads like we dont have a first round draft pick until 2027 like many other teams and are similar to Boston with our prospect pool…

Maybe SJ wants a high 1st round pick. Ours project to be little better than 2nds.

Makes a lot of sense to me if you think about what the Canes are likely offering…

Karlsson is a Norris winner with an albatross of a contract. Any Canes offer for him is probably not going to include a premium piece, like a Morrow/Nikishin/Nadeau , that San Jose would want. It’s been rumored that Grier has high expectations for a Karlsson return. Compare that to the Canes philosophy of acquiring distressed assets for pennies in the dollar.

Grier probably doesn’t want the headache if flipping Pesce after acquiring him. So, the Canes get a high end pick or prospect for Pesce, add some middling prospects/picks of their own and maybe Teravainen…bing bang boom, there’s your Karlsson offer.

All complete and utter speculation

Also, to me, that statement seems taken out of context. I’d think Pesce mainly would need to be moved as part of the package or prior to acquiring Karlsson to clear his cap hit.
