Freidman just said Pitt and Carolina for karlsson
I'm way more comfortable with Karlsson with the Orlov signing. Orlov is MUCH more sound defensively than Skjei is, meaning that Burns will still have free reign on the second pair. Slavin-Karlsson has the potential to be one of the more mind-bending pairings the league has seen in years.
I'm on the Karlsson to Carolina hype train 100% today; especially after getting Orlov.

As I said before, we can trade one of, or both of Skjei and Pesce for a good top 6 forward that helps our offense.

Since @Unsustainable isn't posting pipe dream trades today, how about something like Pesce + Skjei + Drury or even Koko if needed + 2024 1st round pick for Elias Pettersson #40 or Auston Matthews for a franchise tier center man, and a true super star player?

Sounds like there's a good enough ball park package for those players. I'm not sure what the cost of getting Karlsson would be though, but getting him allows us to trade our 2nd pairing for a super star forward and would be NHL 23 (or soon to be NHL 24) mode.

I see both getting traded if the EK rumors are real. It may genuinely be Pesce negotiation leverage, but if it comes to fruition, both will likely be on other teams soon.
As I've mentioned before, even if we don't get Karlsson, someone has gotta go. After signing Orlov, we're certainly not paying him $7.7M to play the third pair nor are we paying Skjei his contract to play third pairing minutes.

If we do somehow manage to land EK, then yeah, both Skjei and Pesce are 100% getting dealt.

Agreed and would rather move Sjkei so we have the space to make a swing at a forward trade or Tarasenko signing.

Bringin in Karlsson is a huge IF and even then, I still agree with all the pundits - they need another forward…

Also somehow need to figure out a way to stash some defensive depth, outside of Coglan, on various AHL teams…

The Penguins just brought in Ryan Graves, wonder if that takes them out of the Karlsson race

I think Skjei is gone but we were sitting on surplus cap space this year, if we don’t find a trade that makes sense having an even better blue line than last year ain’t such a bad thing. Roll the 3 pairs with pretty much even minutes all year, gives Burns and Slavin a rest too

There's going to be a ton of naysayers about EK and Burns reuniting, but always remember this: Who was paired next to those two back in San Jose? A combination of Mario Ferraro, Radim Simek, and Marc-Edouard Vlasic's corpse. We're going from that pile of cat poop to, ahem... Jaccob Slavin and Dmitry Orlov.
