The team that has the most comebacks from 2 goal deficits can’t handle any adversity? The f***?
3rd in the league in wins after giving up goal #1.
Tied for 4th in the league in winning % when trailing after the 2nd period.
Different kinds of adversity. In those games, they’re in those positions because they put themselves in those positions. So they have no one to blame but themselves.
In games like last night, or the LA game, they play well, and get a goal out of it (and as you pointed out, scoring first is a rarity for this team. On the PP even more so). Then that goal is taken away by questionable calls. And you can kind of see them slump their shoulders, give the old “Here we go again”, and not play nearly as well from that point onward.
What’s interesting is that the league keeps track of these kind of reviews, so you can go back and compare how the game went to that point, when the GI call was made and how it may have affected the end result. Last night, IMO, we had enough time after the GI call to still win the game despite the early letdown. The game against Seattle in December, where we had a goal taken away and then Seattle scored immediately afterwards? Much easier to say that call affected the game.
And even looking back at some of these games, it’s obvious in their inconsistency. Check out this goal by Colorado back in November:
The Colorado player is literally dragging Martin’s pads, much more contact than Comrie’s stick last night, and the goal stands.
