Serious, not ironic, question. Did I miss something or is Provorov really considered a surefire star defenseman with great two-way game? I mean I know he is really good, but THAT good?

Yes he is, go back and watch ANY of the junior tourney games from this past year and listen to the CANADIAN announcers laminating over him. He does EVERYTHING very well. You may not notice him too much bit it's because he just controls things so well at such a young age that you don't can't help but be awed at how good he is against his peers

I've watched him a fair amount this year in the WHL. He was the best Dman I've seen in the Dub in the last few years. Clearly in his own tier.

I would still have Drai > Provorov until I see how he handles NHL competition though.

Oh, okay. The last russian 1D in the league was Markov in him prime 10 years ago so it would be nice for them to get some help on the D, maybe with Zadorov also panning out... Otherwise don't see them fare well at Olympics in next 10 to 15 years with that brutal defense.

Provorov and Sergachev are legit.

Provorov is a very good Dman, but again, I want to see it against NHL peers. I think he'll be fine though.

Leon Draisaitl

Jesse Puljujarvi

Oilers deal from a position of strength and give up their surplus forwards for positions they desperately lack. They get a can't miss top pairing defender & potential elite starter. They will also eventually need money for McDavid to re-sign so this frees up future cap space.

Flyers do this to add another layer to their offensive production and to ease minutes off of Vorachek and Giroux. Eventually Draisaitl and Puljujarvi will replace those two as their first attack options. They can survive the loss of Provorov with Morin, Sanheim and Hagg trending as top 4 options as soon as next season.

Thoughts? Does anyone need to add or is it fair?

Easy no from oilers

I'll take that bet. I bet Provo ends up being the best and most valuable player of the 3. However, I'd still take this deal and run away as fast as I could

Dr. Drai is an outstanding player. With Centre and D having roughly the same value, tough to say with certainty. Dmen always carry that extra layer of unknown, they develop slower and take more time than forwards, much harder to predict.

I do think Provorov will be a stud, he was excellent in the best Canadian junior league at developing D historically.

Even with all the Provorov praise, easy no from EDM.

They're dealing from a position of strength, but you don't do that in a way which completely ruins that strength. Awful for the Oilers.

The flyers have to do it. I'm glad they won't actually though. To win a cup you need a high end top end dman. That is worth far more than any winger and likely more than most centers. Provorov is the reason I think we win a cup in 5 years.

now that I am on my lap top I can explain why the Oilers say no to the deal

1) It is a step back--`While Provorov is a top D prospect--he is just that a D prospect with no nhl experience--Oilers now have Larsson, Klefbom and Nurse on the back end and while their top out value is not as high as Provorov--the three of them make for a good prospective bunch
2) This will annoy flyer fans but Stolarz like Provolov has never played an NHL game and we have seen a lot of goalies with a lot of hype get lighten up at the NHL level and with goalies being a high risk gamble--it what the oilers giving up worth it? Cam Talbit is only 29 and looks to be the number one for a few years and the oilers can be afforded time to draft and develop a future goalie number one goalie if Laurent Brossoit faulters
3) Leon D is the most know quality in the offer and looks to be a solid all around C who can play the full game and get you pts
4) most people think Jesse P is just one step below Laine who went number 2 and he reporedly plays the big game. If the Oilers trade both Leon and Jesse--who plays second line? Pouliot-Nuge and Yak? that would scare a few fans. By trading Hall for Larsson the oilers addressed part of the D problem and to address it further wont cost Leon and Jesse

I am biased and I know flyer fans will point out that the two will have great careers--but trading JEsse P and Leon sets the oilers back

Terrible for the Oilers.

Anybody who argues that the Flyers wouldn't take this trade and run is just being ridiculous. Stolarz adds almost zero value.

This will be the last time I read a thread started by this particular OP.

Provorov is just an outstanding prospect. I've always been high on him and the hype is well warranted. However, as many have pointed out, he hasn't played one NHL game so nothing is guaranteed. I'd still be surprised if he didn't turn out atleast #2D in the NHL.

As for the proposal, I think it's not even close to being a fair trade. Puljujärvi gets criminally underrated while Draisaitl has already proven he can play in the league and succeed. We are talking of a potential first line center added with potential franchise winger. JP came of one point shy from Jagr's decades old record in the WJC and is likely to be paired up with McDavid to form one of the deadliest lines of the generation.

This is just beyond bad from the Oilers perspective and probably one of the most lopsided proposals I've seen for a while.

Yeah, Oilers get bent over hard here. Provorov has skill for sure,he also plays on a very stacked team but doesn't seem to bring it come playoff time. I watched him in the Memorial Cup and he looked lost.

lol how do people post these lopsided trade proposals?

Now 1 on 1 deals - Provorov <--> Draisaitl or Provorov <--> Puljujarvi
are realistic and worthy of debate

Stolarz is a middling goaltending prospect.

If by Stolarz you mean Ghost then maybe oilers go for it. But then Philly hangs up the phone laughing so.

You've been starting your hf career off with a high quantity of low quality proposals. Why not take a breather?

Philly says no pretty easily.

Provorov is an extremely rare type of Dman, and is one of the very few Defensive prospects where you're not worried about his development.

He's going to be an elite #1D. And Philly isn't trading him for a couple of forwards.

Philly would so not say no, they'd take it and run away giggling

Were they CANADIAN announcers though?

I thought for a second that this looked fair.

Then i realised it was Stolarz, not Simmonds.

Lol, r u kidding??? Simmonds >>> Ebs and you have PHILLY adding in the deal??? I'll stop there before I get another infraction

Maybe the point is that the Simmonds/Ebs version of the deal is almost as one-sided as the original proposal that started this thread. Just maybe. :shakehead
