such an impressive start for the kid. Perhaps what I am most excited about are that the perceived “weaknesses” of Carlsson (shot/goal scoring/skating) have already proven to be of High NHL quality.

The way he has played, and been effective, has given me even more confidence he will be Elite. While it would be impressive, I wouldn’t be as convinced if he was like 2+ 11. Leo has all the tools and the IQ. Sky is the limit.

Anaheim has declined so no need to ask, it's pretty obvious he wouldn't go, though.

Sweden's U20 NT coach on Leo (Sveriges kamp för att få loss Leo Carlsson till JVM):

They know about the WJCs and thought that it could be a boost for Leo to play in the tournament. But in line with his development progressing they've said more or less that "with Leo on the team and without Leo on the team we are two different teams."

Leo going to the WJC would be a step back for him. He is pacing for like 38 goals in a full 82 game NHL season, and like just under 65 points, more if you count the SO goal and assist that was taken back because the league sucks. lol.

If Leo stays hot, and Terry wakes the F up, or Z gets back soon. I think he is going to give Bedard a run for his money for the Calder. Will he win it, no, but that's fine.

Leo and Minty having a run for the Calder will at least make me cope for another lost season.

I'm thinking a step back in another way. Carlsson is in the middle of a special strength building schedule. Taking three weeks off that schedule can significantly degrade Carlsson's overall development for this season, which would affect how he plays the rest of the season for the Ducks. Anaheim should and probably has already declined Carlsson's services to the WJC due to their specific strength schedule and the fact he's the Ducks 1C (part-time).

Also, Carlsson participated in the WJC-20 last year as a 17-year old. He has the experience of playing at the WJC-20, which should pale in comparison to playing as a1C in the NHL.

One of the most impressive qualities he's shown IMO is his ability to bounce back from poor games. He's had a couple of stinkers, which is to be expected, but he always seems to come back in the next game with a ton of energy.

I think it's pretty clear that the NA scouting community heavily favors Canadian kids and doesn't get enough exposure to Europeans outside of big tournaments. It's pretty clear they missed the mark on Carlsson pre-draft. Looking back though, there were some people around the draft who were very, very high on Carlsson. Like best player in the draft high on him.
