Not worried about the face off thing at all. Bedard is at 37% and Fantilli at 40%. Most teenagers get abused in the dot. He will be at least 45% in a year or two is my guess

I’m glad Cronin is just letting him go out there and take his lumps. I don’t think there’s any point to putting him with a center on his wing and not letting him take draws- that’s not going to make him better
Yep, reminds me to point out McDavid and Eichel had bad faceoff% in their first few seasons and their career is still below 48%. They were both 41% in their rookie seasons and Eichel regressed to 38% in his sophmore year. Its also what they do after the faceoff that matters too, they could lose the faceoff but gain possession of the puck anyways.

Eichel being a cup winning 1C who had 43% faceoff win% last year in the regular season and 46% in the playoffs. Matthews is great at faceoffs but his teams go nowhere in the playoffs.

He lived by himself when he was playing in Sweden so guess he is used to is/prefers it
Sure, if he were still in Sweden. But he supposedly only just recently learned to drive. Now he's in a brand new country with a million things to learn (most of which we all take for granted) and trying to make the NHL at 18. You would think he could use all the help he could get with just the basics. Vets take in young players all the time. There's probably some reason, but it seems like a head scratcher to me.

I would bet its still up to the player. I agree with you FWIW. I just hope that since hes not living with a vet, that hes still getting mentored and spending time with the vets. Sounds like the kid likes his space, hes seems like an introvert, so not very surprising he would decide to live on his own.

I swore I read something that said or at least implied that he didn't want a roommate.

Got a notification from Netflix about a new show "Leo". Sadly, it's some cartoon not about our Leo, ha

Deep dive article into Carlsson's load mgmt by Stephens.

I feel like many replying to Stephens were being nice by often citing (paraphrasing) "it's for a unique player for such a unique situation".
Thank you very much for the link, that is a great article with many quotes.

Can someone summarize or highlight some quotes from the Athletic article?

Matt Keator, Carlsson's agent:
“This is development,” he said. “It’s what it is. We’re not thinking about next game, next month. I think they’re thinking about second half of the season, next year, three years from now, five years from now — where is he going to be?”
“They’re not babying the kid,” said Keator, who has known Verbeek and Ducks head coach Greg Cronin for many years. “People are like, ‘Oh, they’re babying him.’ They’re not babying him. Again, they’re developing him. If they were babying him, then these off days, he’d be sitting at home resting. He’s not. He’s working.”

The rest of the article is full of feedback quotes from coaches, analysts, and players. The common answer is "it's a specialized program for a unique player".

Killorn is on the latest Spittin' Chiclets podcast and the topic of conversation goes to Carlsson. They start talking about his development program and Whitney brings up how his agent spoke about his bones still growing. Killorn laughs then brings up Leo's accident where he crashed into the boards and hurt his hip - apparently the doctor who took Leo's x-ray said his growth plates weren't fully closed and that he could grow taller.

Watching Fantilli struggle as of late, maybe this is the best course for Leo. Yeah we want to see him play but it’s more about the future and have to be patient. This season is just another development year where the young players take priority over trying to make the playoffs.

Leo has always been my favorite but for the record, no one in Columbus is thinking that Fantilli is struggling. For the moment he has the unenviable task of carrying Laine, who just had a concussion. But as recently as a few games ago Fantilli was killing it on a very effective line.

Should reword it struggling to produce. Leo has also have been carrying line mates who are struggling overall.

Hope his fontanelle is closed.

A youtube channel I follow posted this clip on Leo Carsson, I like these kind of montages as you get a good picture of their playstyle through a quantity approach.

They done other players too on that channel.

Watching this made me miss Z even more. Leo and Z had some really pretty and effective plays in all 3 zones.

They say you have to wait more than five years to know the results of a draft, and while that is absolutely true, I don't have that kind of patience.

After watching Leo Carlsson and Adam Fantilli for two years, analyzing their every move, and obsessively comparing them, I was curious to know how they have adapted to the NHL out of the gate, and most of all, if we made the right choice ranking Fantilli ahead at Elite Prospects.
