Just throwing this out there, no basis in fact that I know of. Perhaps there was a split in Duck management re what to do with Leo this season. Some wanted him to play in Sweden because he wasn't physically strong enough and 18, etc. Some said that he's our #1 center and how is he going to improve in SHL. What we are seeing may be the compromise. We'll keep him with Ducks but intersperse playing in games with strength training and development.
I think Leo is Verbeek's pet project, for better or worse

But why did it have to be THIS game in particular?

I get that in aggregate they're trying to keep his workload manageable, but wouldn't you want to sit him a bit more against the contenders and ease him in via the mediocre middle and bottom feeders where the games might be less intense?

Dissapointed he's sitting this one but I was cool with him playing in Sweden all year for this exact reason, less games and more time to develop his body while he's probably still growing.

I wonder how many games they are planning on sitting him out. They are pretty much killing any shot he had at the Calder (which is kind of messed up).

It was probably already a long shot to win playing a full season against Bedard but possible. Missing 10+ games and I don't see it happening.

Prehab could also be a reason for this. If he was stronger and better conditioned those niggles he had earlier may not have occurred.

Have to trust the guys working with him on this but it is disappointing not seeing him. Long term it sounds like the right option

He's also played 65 games in a professional environment in his D+0 year compared to Bedard and Fantilli. By the far the most out of the 3 so there's logic behind the idea of managing Carlsson's minutes and games. It's just too bad we won't be seeing him tonight against CBJ.

Agreed this is the happy medium. We don’t want to go into next year, hoping Leo still puts on more muscle mass. By next season, we want him not only more physically developed but also nhl seasoned

Probably 65

Statistically, the best way to get Carlsson a Calder is to keep him on the AHL/press box enough to push his eligibility to next year. Very few 1st year Calder winners.

This load management is a load of shit.. thats what it is lol, Either play him here or let him play in the ahl or shl..

This is my feeling exactly. Ok, he's a young kid and management wants to set him up for success and not just throw him off the deep end. As someone in a field of work where there's a steep learning curve once out of school I can respect that.

BUT WHY THIS GAME?!?!?!?! (that's meant to be read in the whiniest voice possible)
